Omkar™ 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 Ever wondered while copying GBs of data from one place to another on Windows, staring at the file copy animation dialog (which actually give newbies the 'feel' of copying ~ for Xperts, the HDD LED is good enough! ) - and at other times, when you've added a new disk drive (USB Mass storage, or such sort) when on slower systems, opening My Computer shows that (darn) 'Searching for items' animation? Well I was thinking of seeing something better than that puffed-up yellow torch looking around for items in there! Anyone having eXplored Windows® directory structure could tell me where Windows® keeps these animations? And what type are they? AVI (Sure hope so!) I'd like to spice up the visuals and replace these with some (more) geek animations... Having customized everything else (tight from the cursor to Window Title Bars) ~ this is the only thing that somehow 'doesn't fit in'... I wonder if this is possible? If you do look into it, please let us know!

If you do look into it, please let us know! I'm pretty sure the file copy animations are stored as resources inside the explorer.exe or user32.dll binaries themselves. You can replace them via dll-hooking, which is what Windowblinds does. As for me, the scrolling list of files from xcopy is good enough animation for me
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2007 I'm sure it's a live render via some DLL file and not some like AVI files. I don't actually mind the default animations. Hell, as long as my files get copied, I'm happy. Else, I'll have to crack open DOS (which is hellish, I rather do UNIX).xboxrulz
Quatrux 4 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 I also wanted to change much of that stuff, to change icons and etc. So years ago I were using WindowsBlinds, but I don't really use it today, as I don't care for them as I used to. ;]
wutske 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2007 You might try Xpize ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ), it replaces the 'old' icons by newer ones. If you're lucky, it replaces your animation by something you like .
iGuest 3 Report post Posted October 10, 2007 Wow your ALL wrong. %windir%system32Shell32.dll using res hacker you'll see the AVI resources, some people have replaced them with "blank" AVI's (transparent bmp's or png's) and just used really cool progress bars.so what did you have in mind?-delta9
