Archaas 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 Ya, it's great, I've had it for about a half a year now. Now that there is a script editor, you can change the existing Ruby scripts or make your own to make your game your own. Also the new graphics capabilities are a great bonus but the battle system really sucks. I had to completely rewrite mine and it turned out about the same with a bit more... spunk. If your into making 2d RPGs and aren't too experienced in game programming, this is a good learner's tool. Try the free trial and see if you like it. If you do, I can help with stuff if you need it. mrxjecar 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 I use it since a quite long time, its great but now i need some scripts, but i don´t know, where to look. I need a sideview battle system or a strategyscript. I won´t to make a game like Warhammer 40k, like with units and my friend told me , that you just need a script... If anyone here can draw, i would need some models, just mail me and i will tell ya what to do... And please mail me the strategy script...
Chesso 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2007 Yeah it is pretty good generally. But it needs a lot more default resources at it's disposal, like earlier version of RPG Maker. The whole scripting thing is also good, however there is not enough information for beginners and it's considerably useless because of this. levimage 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2007 I came across it at one time in my RPG days. It took me awhile to to get it to work on XP. I had to download a bunch of files and extract them from different language builds and made some registry changes to reference the directory locations.I found it is simple for creating SNES like RPGs with side scrolling screens and turn based fighting. Creating the map is easy. You use the premade tiles and layers. You can add your own 2d graphics for background figting scenes, character, monsters, and some 2d animation. The points system for player/monsters stats/levels system are customizable. The script system is something new to me. I required my some time to learn the language and involved tedious clicking of various options and menus. Every so often i would save my work and test the game I created.* Oh the game i created was based on my family and friends in a game. You just walk around doing pointless tasks/quests like the real rpg's and you leave town, fight monsters, get money and experience to buy weapons and armor to equip to fight harder monster. Enough said. :rolleyes:All in all, this is an okay software to start out with if you are looking for package to make 2D RPGs. It is nothing like the custom campaign creators out there now days included in major PC game rpgs.
mikesoft 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Well I've been usign RPG maker since 2003 version, I'm not really into the programming thing, so I kinda liked the 2003 version a little more because it gave you more options out of the box, though of course with proper scripts the XP version becomes the best RPG maker.I've created some games, though I don't like RPG games so I try to modify things a bit and make it an adventure game, for example, you won't get attacked from a monster hidden in the grass (like pokemon games, Final fantasy, etc) but instead, you fight monsters like in Zelda. That's not that hard to make, the tricky part is when it comes to bosses! Then you know the limitations of the maker, that of course if you try to make an adventure game zelda-style.But overall it's a great game maker, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to start creating some games.
