delivi 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Windows Vista Home Edition dosent have any restrictions on the applications you can run in it.It just lacks the cool Aero interface and other frills that windows vista comes with. You will not get the Mediacenter, Inbuilt games, DVD Burning features etc.You can check and compare the different features of various editions of windows vista here.https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/products/windows

HellFire121 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 I might suggest that you go for the home premium edition. I'm not sure about the cost differences but i'm guessing it would be minimal. I know that when i get vista i'm not getting anything below home premium, i need these features. I usually think of home basic a stripped down version of xp whereas home premium is like xp feature wise.-HellFire
Alegis 0 Report post Posted March 15, 2007 Might as well have something to show for it if your computer is capable of running it.As xboxrulz said, you won't have troubles with XP programs. But I'll just confirm for you that Adobe Photoshop works here without any problems at all.
Atomic0 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 If a program does not run correctly on Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, then it run correctly on any version of Microsoft Windows Vista. According the Adobe Inc., Photoshop CS2 is not officially supported on Windows Vista. However, it is runs with minimal known issues. For more information about "How Adobe Products support Windows Vista", please visit:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/I have not been able to find any problems with Dofus on Windows Vista. It is very likely to support Vista if it runs on Adobe Flash Player 9 (the game is Flash-based).
wutske 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2007 (edited) You can run ALL Windows XP programs on Vista.xboxrulz In your dreams , not every program that works on XP works on Vista, I think Microsoft deliverd the best proof: Visual Studio 2005, they needed to patch it before it would work. I've also read something about previous versions of Outlook that wouldn't work like they were supposed to do.I think it's safer to say that in general there shouldn't be a problem running XP-capable software on Vista. For the few programs that won't work, there's the compatibilty option like in XP.//edit: proof -> http://www.warp2search.net/ Edited March 21, 2007 by wutske (see edit history)
Moon Child 0 Report post Posted March 23, 2007 I've been in the market debating whether to buy a new Vista laptop now or later and seeing as how Vista's problems popped up tremendously after its release I decided to wait., The only thing I'd probably have trouble with is my PC games (American McGee's Alice, Battlefield 2142, Rayman Raving Rabbids) and the installation. Since I don't really own many (those are the ones I frequently play) I was concerned with the compatibility, but with patches here and there I'm sure it'll run smoothly. wutske 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2007 of course. It's just the same story as in the beginning of the XP era. First everybody was nagging about software not working, bla bla bla and like 6 years later, everybody is working happily with XP, no more compatiblity issues ... (only the usual windows annoyances )
Grafitti 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2007 It'll take a while before everything is ported to Vista. I'm sure there are quite a few programs that don't support it yet, but the one I've found so far is PGP, which doesn't work unless you have the beta version, but that's only a month long trial version. Hopefully by the end of this year we'll see the first service pack for vista, and at least 90% of all appz ported over.
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2007 Note: when I said ALL programs, it also means that you might have to run it under compatibility mode as some will require it, like those recent games designed for specifically for Windows XP. For example, Battlefield 2142.xboxrulz
