Well.. I must say that I am (pleasantly) surprised that this many people think MySpace isn't a good example of a community - I though I was alone in this :)When I first bumped into MySpace (not so long ago, maybe one year), I immediately classified it as a badly developed web site. However, it has nothing to do with my dislike of similar "community" sites - I consider hi5 and Orkut much better, even though I am not a member.What I consider the greatest flaw, as some of you already pointed out, is the loading speed. Every single page takes ages to load with all the multimedia content and numerous users already browsing the site. Should that be an excuse? No. I am 100 per cent positive that a few really professional programmers could decrease the load on the servers at least a bit. And not to mention how a lot of people on MySpace have serious issues (no insult to any keen users ).But we can't overlook the fact that MySpace has an ENORMOUS database - people just love it. And not only them, but also companies, bands, celebrities, everybody's doing it Though I'm not sure why.. It must be addictive, like WoW

Quite right, it seems even to this day, poorly coded and designed.It's not a very good community, perhaps it has more members, but this community here absolutely craps all over it.But we don't go all po sting photo's of ourselves and divulging all personal information, of having porn bots sign up.....

myspace is poorly coded that someone can always find ways to inject harmful codes in it that makes the viewer suffer. only in myspace also is a perfect place where i can see almost a hundred of linked flash videos that are set to download on view.. imagine the overhead on your computer downloading those flash files.

i frankly use friendster.. it has some of the problems of myspace but i know one of the person who maintains it, that makes a small difference.

Despite the facts that the MySpace website service is soo bad and its coding is not as at ties with the other Social Networking group, it remains to be the most heard of website compared to xanga, friendster, facebook (i haven't even heard of this until now) and all the other sites like MySpace.There are millions of people who join and many more are coming. To the end user, they don't care about MySpace using a lot of tables instead of DIV tags to lay out modules. They may have slow loading times but that doesn't stop those amateur users. This is because they don't care about the source code of its web pages. All they need is a good place to meet many other people.So don't put it down that much. The user interface isn't as bad as people here say. As long as it gets the job done it's good. What I can say though is that if they code it better and serve its members better then probably it will get a lot more members to join.I use MySpace but not as much as I did but it keeps me connected to my friends that live far away. MySpace isn't that bad, but it also isn't that great. What keeps it going is the members.

It's because they are morons.It's not just how it was made, it's what is on it and how these amatuers use it.There is fake ***** bots all over the place, xxx cam groups, there's probably a group just for pedophiles, it honestly wouldn't surprise me.

I only joined myspace because most of my old friends were on there (from years and years ago) and I had to get them an email. The only way was to create a myspace account to send them a message. I've kept my account since then because it's a great way to make contacts. So far I'm really good friends with a sci-fi novel writer, and some movie editors and producers. The best way to get into the movie business is to know someone who can get you that job you want, and myspace will hopefully get me a step closer to that. I don't see what the hurt is in creating and keeping a myspace account. If you don't like it, just don't use it, but it can only do more good than harm, right?

Ok, I just had to do it. My (quick) review on MySpace.
From a technical standpoint:
I have never seen a network that is so poorly designed that the "load balancing" doesn't even work. I can't tell you countless number of times where I've been directed to down servers or VERY overloaded servers. Sometimes, I'll get stuck in a loop of overloaded server or down servers. I thought load balancing was supposed to AVOID this? It's also poorly coded. Have you ever watched your system use more CPU power to load a really overloaded profile?? Next is the errors. I don't know the cause for the errors, but it is far fetched.

From end user standpoint:
The interface is.... not usable. Ever try to log off and notice there is no logout link or the link has moved for the 5th time in that DAY?

From a stalker standpoint:
Best website ever! I think even PRIVATE profiles can be viewed via Google's Cache. Nice going, Tom... treat a search bot as a "friend".

Personally, News Corp. only cares about $$$$ from MySpace... Customer Service doesn't even take notice to anything bad or offensive on public areas. They simply could care less.

Personally i think it the best out there and there ratings prove it, cause sites like Xanga and other bloging or networking site can not stand up to Myspace, come on myspace has tons of Celebrities on it, now that is a good site

And also all the things u mention in your review never happened to me never, ok so I don't know what you are really talking about down servers, I can admit that recently that myspace has had problems with hackers and stuff but that can always be fix like people not being stupid. There are now hacks that copy the myspace login screen and people acually fall for it. as soon as one of them pop up I look at the web site and I seen http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ yeah thats intellegent but if you are among those people that acaully got there account taken over by hackers you should be in myspace ok

Argh I absolutely hate MySpace! I hate how it's not that good yet every bloody celebrity is logging on and using MySpace rather than first promoting an official website.

 

It has an ugly interface and customising it is extremely hard, you'd have to be super to be able to do so. And I say so because many "layout designers" base their designs on others'. I can't imagine ALL of these "layout designers" doing things from scratch.

 

It's not MySpace's fault, but due to its popularity, yes, I agree with you guys on how it attracts unwanted criminals.

A lot of people who tend to 'worship' MySpace and argue it's the 'best way to contact friends/people' somehow forgets that there's such things as e-mails, telephone calls, texting, and good old fashion snail mail. No people, MySpace isn't just another way to keep in contact, it's the only way you can get comments on your looks without wanting (unless you put that pitiful "OMG I'm fugly!" caption under your pictures so people have to give you pity comments to reassure your self-esteem. Yes, I detest MySpace. A lot.

i have a myspace but i just created one to keep in touch with friends.honestly though i wouldn't have gotten so into to HTML and web-design without it. yes it's lame and people die if they have under 10 picture comments, but it's helped me and my friends get "geeky" about HTML and CSS. haha.

Something hit my head yesterday and finally noticed my favourite movie used MySpace instead of Facebook ... argh. (that movie is Happy Feet btw).Anyways, I just compiled data showing that almost all (90 - 95%) of my high school is connected through Facebook. Current and former students also use this exact service. MySpace comes close second (about 50 - 55%) and others with lower percentage. These numbers can't equal 100% because some people use both MySpace and Facebook or others.xboxrulz

I have rather mixed feelings about Myspace. I do like it to keep in touch with friends. Phone calls are not possible, I hate to write letters because so much can happen by the time they write back. I like to go on sometimes and try to find old friends. And I am also hooked up with anyone I knew in high school who happened to join.Now, on the other hand, Myspace can be a pain in the butt. Trying to view any profile, editing you page, leaving comments, take forever. Not to mention the bazillion things that some people have on their profile all trying to load. And all the porn in there is running amuck, and nothing is done about it. And I also get many errors and have to refresh the page.The state I live in is trying to get places like Myspace to have some sort of definite way to determine if the person wanting an account is actually of age. I think this is long awaited. My two nieces (17, and 10) and my newphew (12) have myspace accounts. I think its crazy. Kids that age don't know how to protect themselves againts would-be stalkers, pediphiles. They just don't have that much "street smarts" I believe there are many things that need to be changed at myspace, but who knows it ever will be.

@lonebyrd, you could always ask them to join Facebook, HI5, Friendster or Orkut (if you have a Google account, you instantly get access to Orkut!) instead, which is a lot better than MySpace. Those networks actually have good security measures.

 

I don't even know how MySpace even got its grip at the fifth most visited website.
