FirefoxRocks 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 I use a combination of several browsers, all for different purposes.Internet Explorer for Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Safety Scan, Microsoft Update and sometimes for normal browsing.Firefox is for playing Neopets (with the toolbar), some RPGs and many features from the extensions. I use Firefox for normal surfing 45% of the time.Opera is for IRC Chat, newsgroups and a few other widget functions too. I use Opera to surf 45% of the time.Avant Browser is for playing on MSN Games. I sometimes use it for security updates and playing games that crash in Firefox/Opera/Netscape and that I don't want to load up IE.SeaMonkey is used for testing and learning about programming :PNetscape is only used for testing out how my webpages look in the browser.Maxthon is used for normal browsing (1%) and it is used when IE crashes repeatedly (Send Error Report [or not...]).As you can see, I have different browsers for different functions. The 9% of normal browsing that I didn't mention, well, I spread it between all the browsers. :POpera and Firefox are both my favourite ones as of now. east-drip 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2006 Wow, Opera sounds pretty awesome! I'll have to try it out sometime. As of, I have no idea how long, I've been using FireFox, unless I'm at school, and we can't have FireFox installed on the machines there ( ).Learn something new everyday, eh? Quatrux 4 Report post Posted October 4, 2006 I am using this version for some time now and really like that they are integrating more stuff into it and keeping it such a small program.. I don't write a lot of emails anymore, so I don't need a powerful email client anymore, so I started using Opera mail, even though I would want a bit more from it.. Moreover, I started using Opera chat to connect to irc servers, due to I don't like any irc clients for Windows, except for xchat, but it is using GTK, which I don't like.. but yeah, Opera chat is still a bit lame for me, it has all the things I need, but all this integration - I don't like that all the channels I am sitting are in the tabs, I don't need to see them, even though I can open a new window and have lots of tabs there with email and irc rooms.. but I would rather have one tab for chats in which I would see some kind of tabs of my joined irc channels..It is really useful to have bit torrent support integrated, especially if you aren't mad about them and just want to do several things, like download them when needed fast..Maybe anyone know how can I export all my mail inbox, outbox, sent mails etc. from Opera that I could have a backup? For example, if I would want to reinstall Windows and to have all the emails after a fresh installation of Opera by importing it? Any ideas, or I just can't find it? dantron 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2006 I'm using Opera. I especially enjoy the ability to create a new search shortcut simply by right-clicking in an existing search box. Some things annoy me about Opera, though. It's always tiresome to come across pages that won't display properly (especially pdf files, which for some odd reason will display ascii text the first time I load some pdfs, but works fine after refreshing the page), or at all, because you're not using IE or Firefox. I understand that this is (most of the time) not an issue because of Opera itself, but rather due to bad webpage coding (or coding just for IE/ff), but it still bugs me. Mafamba Team 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Right. There's no escaping my full opinion.A few days ago I downloaded a version of Opera, I think it was 9.02, and this is what I have found.Pros - PLENTYBetter than FirefoxBetter than FirefoxBetter than FirefoxBetter than Firefox and the list goes on :PPeople are brainwashed to think that because so many people use Mozilla Firefox that Mozilla Firefox is "automatically" the best web browser around, but face the facts, it, ISN'T.Opera, has all the features of Mozilla Firefox, a better looking layout and interface, infact, even more features, easy access to everything, and super fast loading of sites.I don't look at figures or facts, I look at personal experience, and a gazillion people could say that Mozilla Firefox is ten times better and faster in all things technical than Opera 9.02, but when it comes to firsthand experience, face the music, its not.Opera 9.02, even has its own built in e-mail client which is pretty neat although I don't use it, and !!! it SAVES 5mb+ IN SPACE COMPARED TO FIREFOX. You may think that , whahay 5mb, so useless, but when you have 50 different things, that all save 5mb, your looking at 250mb, whch I think could get you Microsoft Windows Works, which is pretty handy. At the end of the day, everone is converted to the universal technogeek religion of Firefoxia, yet Opera is really the unsung hero of all the browsers, and it really does kick *bottom* against Internet Explorer as well.If you have any more questions about it, feel free to send me a personal message. The One and Only,Yours Truly,OPERA 9.02 ROCKS,Mafamba Team! toby 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 What annoys me is that Google supports FireFox, which brings prejudice and presumptions like what Mafamba was talking about.
unimatrix 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2006 Opera has produced a good browser now for many years. Especially for the mobile market. Even though its free, the fact that it is not opensource gets it killed by the "If it's not opensource then it's evil" crowd. Frankly there are some militant computer hippies in the OSS crowd that are rather vocal and put people off. I'm not talking about all OSS. I use plenty of applications, like Blender 3D and Xoops, on a daily basis. I think it's great that I can indudgle in 3D animation as a hobby without spending $1000 on software. I have Opera, because when I design webpages (which is a main part of my day job) I need to make sure it looks good for everyone. That being said, I still use Safari 99% of the time even though I have MSIE 5 for Mac, IE 7 for Windows, Firefix, Netscape 7 (MAC) 8 (PC), Opera, and iCAB.
