Is The Astahost Credit System Available For Download

Recommended Posts

Nope - that credits system is proprietary code written by the founder of the Xisto ring. Moreover the code contains all the in-house routines utilized for granting credits, which could be easily exploited if it was publicly known. So that is not available for download. However, you can find similar scripts at HotScripts.Com surely. All you'll have to do is make minor modifications to suit your purpose.

This hosting credit style is the reason why I am here at Xisto. If other sites had it, I could go elsewhere. Cause nobody else has it, I have to stick here... That's a fine example of the difference between open world and proprietary world. And, last but not least, the credit system is a proprietary addon to an open-source-like environment ! Really nice!

I hate to burst your bubble but Invision Power Board isn't open source. There's a license involved that isn't the GNU/GPL.

nightfox is right the only open source part of invisionboard are mods, but the actual board is not open source, but through illegal means people make it open source. Also their are several point system mods that you can install on your board that could work like that somewhat but you would have to edit it yourself to work like that.

See this Credits System code is proprietary and non-open source because of several reasons. The routines involve a series of complex mathematical formulas which weighs out your content, topic title, over-all presentation, ratio of text : pictures etc. - if the code was made available for download one can easily analyze these routines and start making posts that would get you the maximum credits for the minimal effort or no effort at all. That in itself beats the whole purpose - as here the sole purpose is to increase the knowledgebase with good articles/tutorials/posts. That'd stop immediately if the routines are released publicly.

Besides, leaving it out to the users to find some of it by chance has got more of a charm to it - more adventurous. ;)

The only good other place I know of (for IPB - this kind of board) is http://mods.invisionize.com/ - search or just browse around here and you might find one.

Found one - here's a points system that with a little modification can become a credit system.

Well a good design should seprate the credit system with lets say ..credit phrases ...so one could just may be define rules on which credit is given as a script in the credit system. inhouse scripts are doing a good job ..but this just shows a case where a good product (iw the inhouse scripts) are useless for outside world due to bad(?) or no design at allall you web dev ppl...even if u make a very small app..make sure its designed first to carter for growth

I didn't know that the credit system is actually that complicated. I thought it was pretty much about the length of text and that's it.

Now I understand why a certain someone has accumulated 800 credits ^^

Well, fellows, to learn how to post right, watch m^es posts :) actually now I understand why you post screenshots that often. I agree with you, that posting the whole routines and calculations would be a source for exploitation, but making the rules a little bit more obvious would make sense, wouldn't it?

Not everyone agrees one what makes a good post and some people don't even know that quotes and code-inputs don't count (okay, quote is obvious, but code not necessarily).

But alright, nice to know.

The rules seem to be "write down something interesting and helpful". And sometimes the mod really read what you write down an mark it as useless or spam. So, no need to give complicated rules, the philosophy seems to be "tell us something interesting and we will give you credit".
