saga 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 Advertising is just a method of attracting people. The real question is can the content of your website temp people to visit it? If your website is simple all about yourself then it will not generate any traffic at all.People surf the web for information. Not just simple information about the author but of course information that they need for themselves. If your site is all about script tutorials then you will have a great number of visitors. Creating more traffic and if you have a paid ad on it, then your site will be able to generate a dolloar or two for you.
barkwally 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 I agree we saga, you have to a good content, something that is worth coming back to.And meta tags are really good for search engines.
Neverseen 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 One important thing is the linking. If you have a lot of friends (with high traffic) who wouldn't mind linking your website on their website, so you're gonna have more visitors. Of course I agree that the content is very important. If there is nothing interesting for visitors so the wouldn't visit your website more than once. But if your website has something interesting for them and always UPDATED, so it could be more interesting for people :)Personally, my website's traffic is coming mostly from my friend's links page, that's why I suggested it at first :)good luck ! hazeshow 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 I totally agree. Advertisments and banner exchange and so on might create some traffic. But the more important question is: how can I make my first time visitor come back? Which content is interesting? Is the navigation clear and user-friendly? Do all browsers show the site correctly?I think a good website has got to have something that no other website has. Something uncomparable, which the visitor has never ever seen before and what makes him remember the site. If I only had an idea WHAT ... I won't tell you but keep it to myself :)GreetingZ
Hercco 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 I think a good website has got to have something that no other website has. Something uncomparable, which the visitor has never ever seen before and what makes him remember the site. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Word!! Â Peoples surfing habits have changed greatly from what it used to be like 10 years ago. The people would bother checking small websites, bookmarking them and coming back just in case there happened to be some new content. Now... well they google and want their answers, pictures or whatever they're looking for fast. Â To get people to regularly visit your site you need to have that something that attracts them. They don't come back to see your fancy web design again. Â It's been mentioned more than once in this thread but it can't get more emphasis, it's the content! But the best thing about it is that you don't have to produce it all yourself... Get your visitors to participate! Offer them easy ways to submit material. A forums is probably the easiest way to go. If you manege to pull off an forum with at least few regular quality posters it is a great start. hold these members in value, offer them administrative positions in the forums or possibility to post articles/picture/whatever to other sections of the site. Build a team around you. Great thing about having activity in a community is that more you have the more you will likely to be getting. Â Â Other thing that might work is posting new on your site. It doesn't often matter if the news are one or two days old and just small comment style postings with links to other sites. People like to have news of a certain topic on a one place and if you just keep posting them actively, your site could become a place where people could keep up with whats happening in the hobby or scene or whatever your site is about. In this news posting you could also benefit from having a group of active people helping you.

acidburn708 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 if you link to fred langa's site (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) with these little buttons that he has created and you email him giving him your site, he'll help you get more traffic. It really works. I went from like getting one visitor a day and now I have like a thousand and something hits. Linking is also great. Make sure you tell all of your friends and tell them to tell there friends. Also it helps to post your website in your signiture on all of the forums and emails you send. I have been pulled into several sites just because someone had them in there sig. Good luck!
hazeshow 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2005 Great post, Hercco! One problem I see is this: The more you give your visitors control of the content of your site, the more you loose control. If it's a big website you have to spend lots of time with censorship or at least with reading. You can block specific words and ban users but the site will give you a lot of WORK. Every website owner is responsible for the content on his site. So if somebody knows a cool way to get rid of this responsibility, please let us know! :)Acidburn, good idea! So where is your signature?
sassure 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Promoting your site takes some work, but it really does pay off. Do the following:1. Submit your site to the major search engines. Be sure to include plenty of important keywords.2. Link to other Websites through Web Rings. Just do a Google search to find out where these rings are.3. Post on relevant forums and use your site URL as part of your signature.4. List your URL in Directories for the content areas your site is relevant to.Try these! You should search for simillar sites like yours and contact webmasters to do link trades. The more links from similar sites points to yours, the higher place you will get on Google. And if You will make your site good (search engine optimised), you will get much traffic from google. And that is also key to driving traffig to your site. The_Element_Him 0 Report post Posted June 1, 2005 well content is key. but what i did is i went around and i look for other sites like mine.. my site was mainly graphics , backgrounds stuff like that.. so i found other sites like mind and convinced them to affiliate with me... know you find about 10 of them .. even if they dont get heavy hits ... trade buttons ... keep that going for awhile... know somthing els i did that boosted my traffic was creating a banner and button exchange.. and it worked , only after i had a constant flow of visitors, it was around 100 or so a day.. but people signed up . what i did was under the generator i had the link (BLAH BLAH BANNER EXCHANGE - MY SITE.COM) it was realitivly small and no one complaned. as the banner exchange grew so did my site... but what ever works! i do like the hot girl idea
Brian1405241474 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 Promoting any site takes thought and time. One way is to make each email you send have your site as part of the signature. Same for any forum you visit, have your site url as part of the signature.Enlist family and friends to help spread the news of your site.Don't forget those free business card places (you might have to pay for nominal shipping) and hand out a few cards.Have each of your friends with a web site to link you on there. It will generate additional traffic.
