posiordie 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 sorry if there was any topic about it but i couldn't find any.so... what peer 2 peer programs you are using? what things you are downloading from it?i got only soulseek, cause only on it i can found rare records that i'm looking for. sometimes I downlad some band, tahat is unavalaible for me here in Poland. but in general I prefer CDs and Vinyls.I also tried Kazaa, eMule, and DC++Kazaa was worst of them. There was nothing for me. Only poronos and some pop songseMule is good for single files i think, its hard to find some rare albums thereDC++ is strange for me, al this hubs and stuff. I don't like it. Maybe it's that because I always used Slsk.
Giniu 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Azureus, Azureus and one more time Azureus I dual boot betwean Win and Linux now... but before that I was Win user... and I was using only BitTorrent - it was so hard to get anything in those queens...
Hercco 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 I'm also a Soulseek user. For the very same reason as Posiordie; the rare albums. Soulseek might not be optimal for downloading (in terms of download speed and searching) but the network has the best collection of rare records. As I mainly listen alternative music from independent record labels downloading is the best way to hear new stuff. I'm not a big bad music pirate, I in fact buy quite a lot of music. For other stuff, edonkey network and bit torrent are the best in my opinion. Bittorrent as a protocol is superior, but finding that specific file isn't very easy. Edonkey (I've used emule and xmule clients) however has a good search and there are quite a lot of files around. The whole protocol is designed big file transfers in mind and thus this is where it excels. For torrents I use BitComet as a client. I've tried others (Azareus and BitTornado) but I somehow stuck with BitComet. Recently I haven't been downloading much stuff with it though... Most of my favourite torrent sites have been shutdown. posiordie 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 Soulseek might not be optimal for downloading (in terms of download speed and searching)this is true. soulseek have really poor search. the best way to find something really rare is to talk with someone on adequate channel, and browse users files. you can also use "wishlist" but it's not working as it should. forget about this fancy "search" icon on bar. it's unfortunately useless.anyway, Soulseek is the best p2p program for me. I haven't found anything better yet, and i even doesn't looking for
Giniu 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2005 maybe you are right... the content of soulseek network is impressive... but Herrco, what is the strong points of BitComet? Maybe i'll give it a try... Why I choose Azureus?? It got selective file download (I don't have to download whole directory, just select files) and it has builded IP blocking utillity with daily upgraded IP-lists from PeerGuardian page... that's why I choose Azureus... what can you tell me about bitcomet? jcguy 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2005 I've a bad experience with p2p programs. I used to use Kazaa at the height of the downloading frenzy, but uninstalled it during the lawsuits and crackdown. Now I tried using Bittorrent due to the wonderful stories about it, but it doesn't work on my computer. The download speed was very slow. I tried using all the different BT clients, but still the same.I tried emule, the download speed was slow too. The I tried Limewire, and it works beautifully! Very fast DL speed, no adware or spyware.
Vagodeoz 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2005 I thought Kazaa was cool untill I tried eMule. It works great for me. I know many people say that the problem about eMule is the speed, but I have a 56k connection, so I don't need much speed...
musichere 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2005 Azureus, Azureus and one more time Azureus I dual boot betwean Win and Linux now... but before that I was Win user... and I was using only BitTorrent - it was so hard to get anything in those queens... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're kidding right? Â Azureus and bittorrent in general is awful for music, only for ridiculously popular albums and very new ones. Â You should be able find any album that ever charted in the top 500 Billboard on eMule however. It is proven to have the most users (except for fasttrack) and the system of credits means that everyone shares a lot and you can download many files very quickly if you have a good rating. Â Kazaa was very good until it became polluted, but there are many alternatives if you just want a simple no-nonsense peer to peer software for downloading single music files, for example Ares, or any of the Overnet softwares. Â Be careful of the BPI though, if you are living in the UK, becuase they have begun to sue people for downloading music from places such as WinMX, iMesh, Kazaa etc.
thaichatham 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2005 Personally i use limewire pro, the newer 4.8. Limewire claims to be virus free but i promise that it certainly is, not however it is pretty clean for an open network. It has alot of handy features that make it very quick and easy and to use and find what your looking for. - You can perform as many searches as you wish at one time (for approximate spellings...)- Can set priority levels for downloads- Set maximum downloads- Set downloand and upload bandwidth seperately- Share partial files that haven't yet completed (handy for new popular downloads)- Set uploads per persone- Set total number of uploads- Bug report option- Set searching filters for quality and speed- Parental Filters- Built in firewall with Universal Plug and Play- Limit who can download based on there shared folder size- Configure Proxy options- Monitor peak and average bandwidths in a real time graph - Connect to other P2P networks- Rarely wait in line with Pro version The drawbacks to limewire is that it dosent re-connect to useres very well after there is an interuption. You have to go back every now and then highlight and resume the download. The player in it is sub par at best but thats probobly not what your using for anyhow. Overall I've been pretty pleased with it but I'd keep a backup for people who use P2P sharing often to find rarer files.
