Recommended Posts

The service pack for xp jsut came out not to long ago. I hope this fixes alot of problemes that xp had. I never had these problemes on my Linux machine. Linux is a minority and is not attacked more I guess. But The Graphical User Interface Or (GUI) For Xp Is Awsome And Easy To Use.

Linux is a minority - ? on what internet ? over 70% of major servers out there use linux. I believe that windows problems are due to the affect that Billy boy wants more money, so he shortens the life expectiency of his products. I know linux is a good OS but there are so many aspects that you have to take into consideration. Like for instance, Red Hat and WinXP. Red hat is all fine and dandie... and then one day RPMS will get you. Alike Windows Xp, one day its working fine and then the nex day, a linux/unix has released his new program, witch happens to be a worm looking for any type of Microsoft program to Stick its nose in. Yet where is macintosh in all of this ? :) It's a Fact ! " Microsoft Pays millions of dollors to keep macintosh in busniess"yet another example of the monopolized / Limmited computer industry. :)

Linux is not a minority, but in some countries may be so.M$ windows is the most easily operate os, though we must pay for it.on the other hand, linux users have to pay more and more on maintenance and tech support service.undoubted, Linux is one of the best server os.

Linux would be my preferred OS, but Windows has several things going in its favor.DirectX is probably one of the reasons Linux hasn't taken over more home users' computers. The only support I've seen for Linux is WineX, and they charge users to use it. That cuts out a majority of potential Linux users.Another problem I've experienced is trouble with Linux hardware drivers. I've either had to scour the net for hard to find drivers, or my hardware wasn't supported at all. As a matter of fact, I'm stuck writing this post on my Windows partition because my wireless card isn't supported in the version of Linux I have installed. Finally, the learning curve for installing various programs (all the compiling and whatnot) is a bit much for an average user. RPMs make installing programs easier, but nothing could be simpler than running a Windows setup program. As far as Windows versions go, I'll stick with Windows 2000. Although I love how easy it is for XP to install new hardware, I haven't had nearly the trouble with Win2k as I did with XP. :)

I find that SP2 is not good. The security of SP2 is to strong, and hackers can easy, pass by the protection. SP2 makes compatibility problems with some applications.I prefere waiting.

Are you sure that you mean to say , the the protection is so strong that it can be easily broken and allows hackers to pass by... It does not make any sence. Its just like they have made it so hard that it has now become brittle.. hehe J/k. BTW, I am using windows XP SP2 and I find the security thing quite good. It blocks the dangerous ports and protects my PC. And also asks to open specific ports when i try to access something. they have done a nice work.

Another fact for the bloatness of software, back then Bill Gates was paid by the Kb of the program, I think they've changed that, but they still leave over a lot of unused and undocumented programs and APIs with their Windows distribution that I doubt anyone would ever program for, who here still uses a tape cassette drive to load their programs, I find that's still left over.

At least with Linux when they find something obsolete they slowly remove it over time, doesn't mean that you can't put it back in there if you still use it though, you've got everything you need to do that.

Still in saying all this, XP does deserve credit, ease of use is quite high, I'm not sure whether it's because the younger generation is brought up on these computers or not, but I taught my grandma, who had no computer experience at all, to use Fedora Core 2 on her new computer I bought her and she's capable of browsing the internet and emailing people with no problems at all and has never had problems with it crashing or not working, although she's not a heavy user. She even understands attachments and what programs would work to open them now. Next thing she'll be telling me of all these neat tricks to do in Fedora :P

Cheers, MC

I just installed Red Hat Linux 9.0 and the installation took a huge disk space. No longer Linux installation is for small hard drive and slow computer. I feel that the interface is slower than Window XP on the same computer.

RH Linux Personal is cheaper than Window but there will be no phone support. RH Linux Professional is about the same price as Win XP. And Linux is still doesn't have drivers for most modems. Buying a Linux modem could cost over 50 dollars.

Just my humble opinion.

I have been using Windows XP scince the day it was released, and have had hardly any problems with it. I do IT support for a 300 user base company, and the users with windows XP have far less problems that those running any other operating system. I have also been runnign SP2 for a few months now and have found that the features that is provides like the ICF are great. (Not that I use it much on my LAN, but when I use dial-up to the internet, it works great.
