  1. I agree that windows deals with money, but I see the near future that windows will make it available free for non profit use. i.e If you are a home (or non profit organisation) user that is not profeting from using windows, it will be free, while if you use windows to derive an income then you will pay for the license. I beleave this to be fair. Coders spend a lot of time writing the code and also deserve some remunatration. ISo if you make money from an OS you should also be paying for the use of the software. If you look at some linux OS's now like RedHat this is what they are starting to do aswell.
  2. I am in the market for a gameing station and was just wondering what people prefer. I don't know much about the PS2 or XBox, and was just wondering what others though of them. I know the XBox is more powerfull, but the PS2 is more widley used. If you speak to the shops, the one that sells XBox does not like PS2 and the one that sells PS2 does not like XBox (Bias opinions I think).Your input and opinions will be gratly appreciated.
  3. I have used alot of editors out there including FrontPage and Dreamweaver. So far I do beleave that Dreamweaver is the best. In ease of use and versatility. (Never did like frontpage - Might as well use word). But as before stated most non company people cannot afford dreamweaver. These days there are so many editors to chose from that the best thing to do is to visit something like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and play with all of them till you find something you like. We all have a differance of tast and that is a good thing. One designers editor is another designers nightmare, and vica versa.
  4. I have got a home network, with an ISDN modem on my USB, and all I do is set the internet connection to internet connection sharing and away I go. Any PC I connect to the network I just set it to use DHCP (Right click the local area network chose properties, double click TCP and set use DHCP) and away I go. Now with SP2, I even have a firewall for my home network.
  5. This all depends on what you want to achive. If it is just a stand alone server for web and e-mail then I would sugest Linux, but if you want it for a large userbase for security and easy of use I would suggest windows. Windows provides forests and domains that help alot in the security of the clients. I also beleave that windows is better for the user that just wants to use a PC for there day to day things. If you are an advanced user, Linux could do well as long as you are willing to learn things all the time as linux is not that user friendly.I personaly use windows, but thats just because I support a windows network. If I had the hosing space for a personal server, I would run Linux. (Stand alone Server)
  6. I have been using Windows XP scince the day it was released, and have had hardly any problems with it. I do IT support for a 300 user base company, and the users with windows XP have far less problems that those running any other operating system. I have also been runnign SP2 for a few months now and have found that the features that is provides like the ICF are great. (Not that I use it much on my LAN, but when I use dial-up to the internet, it works great.
