sheepdog 10 Report post Posted September 2, 2012 I was just looking at the site stats at the very bottom of the forums. Really surprising to see only one member present, (which I assume is probably me) but 44 guests? That sounds like a lot of tire kickers if you ask me. And we have 81,213 members now, what a big bunch that is! So how come we have so dog gone few posts????One other thing I was happy to find at the bottom of the page, was the list of top posters for the day. It used to run on the right side of the forums page, but I guess it got moved down to the bottom, I never saw it until today, and I had kind of missed it. And yes, I think I'm top poster today! Ananya 0 Report post Posted September 3, 2012 At present when I am posting I am finding 4members and 50 guests. So few members in comparison to the actual number of the members present in the forum.Rather most of the days its the same story. I myself was also out of the forums for a lot of time but then I have found time to be here again and finding you (sheepdog) in full swing. You are posting a lot of topics and really making you a top poster.many members remain active for a certain time but then may be due to unavailability of their desirable topics or maybe due to unavailability of members to comment on their already written topics refrain from posting. There are a few who tend to become busy in their own life and don't come to forums. But still such a big number of members getting disappeared from the vicinity is really embarrassing.Hope you would continue to be there in the forums as actively as you are now. The total number of members doesn't take into consideration how many are active. This site has been around a LONG time. It's kind of like how a game may have 5 million registered accounts but only 20k active players. As I'm posting this now there is just one member logged in as well. It's been quite a while since I saw more than 2-3 people on at once (excluding guests).
demonboy1990 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 i would guess alot of members who have signed up at one time or another have moved on because of either family, business, school/collage, moved to a different host or some other reason, but i understand the reason members are absent life gets complicated and you do not have all your time to spent on Xisto hopefully some members will return sometime, at the moment i am writing there is only me {one user} and no guest and no anon. jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted September 9, 2012 Another factor for the number of "GUESTS" is that google (or other search engine) bots searching the site are considered as guests, so at any given time they may be active on the list of people viewing the topic or page. rpgsearcherz 5 Report post Posted September 10, 2012 Another factor for the number of "GUESTS" is that google (or other search engine) bots searching the site are considered as guests, so at any given time they may be active on the list of people viewing the topic or page. Ah, I didn't realize the bots are considered as guests here as well. Most forums (at least VB/phpBB) have certain groups solely for the bots so that they don't sway your online counter and make it seem like there's more than there really is. sheepdog 10 Report post Posted October 10, 2012 Well thats interesting, thanks for the heads up about the bots. I didn't realize they would be counted. I just kept thinking with that many guests we should be getting a lot more members than we do, but if they are just bots that would explain those high numbers. I know this place has been around for quite a few years now, but 81,000 and some odd members is an awful lot of members for no more traffic than we have here, or have been having for the last few months. I know it's easy to get side tracked with what life throws in our direction occasionally, but you'd think with that many, most would pop back in from time to time, even if they gave up on one web site sooner or later they would take up another one and knowing how easy it is to get free hosting here they would come back when they are ready to start another site. k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted December 12, 2012 You are pretty much on target when you mention about getting side tracked with life - that has happened to me on many occasions... I post on Xisto, then something happens and I'm caught on in the tangled nets of life, then I break free and I'm on Xisto again, but I manage to get distracted because of something hot and happening, and yet again I still return to Xisto. Perhaps having a Xisto app with notifications would help post more often, though I'm unlikely to write much on a phone or a tablet (those things just aren't built for writing, though they are great for a video or a voice chat). We are always happy to see you as top post sheepdog! The thing is that I have very often come to the forum only to have enough time for moderation or having a quick read. I hardly get the time or peace to post at the forums and out of sheer luck, I got the time to post after months of lurking around. Many of the major posters at trap were youngsters who have now grown into their own adult lives... And youngsters of this age are too busy trying to figure out an adult life to grow into My young cousins who should be enjoying fresh air are spending time getting grades and scholarships. Maybe some day, we'll again have lots of people to talk and discuss with. But genuinely, I feel that the people nowadays are too busy or too stressed to take a minute out to write a post.. mrdee 1 Report post Posted December 20, 2012 You seem to forget the ones that have grown old and worn out, Velma. (I think I can safely class myself into that category). However, I still try to make some time to put down some posts here, and I hope there will come a time when I will have enough time on my hands, and especially, feel well enough to roam the forum here and contribute to the posts at full blast.I will certainly be back soon to give people my best wishes for Christmas and new Year. jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted December 22, 2012 I am guilty as well as MrDee to be "more senior" than the average Xisto member (heck, I was also a "senior" Xisto member) and I have also been guilty of being absent for long periods of time, however, like Velma, I make an effort to pop in here and Moderate a little every now and again.Actually, I miss the kids who have ben gthrough the Trap system and would like for them to also pop into the Forum and update their current status. I am Facebook friends with a couple of them, but some of them I do not know where they are or what they are doing, although I do wish them well.
sheepdog 10 Report post Posted December 25, 2012 I feel much the same about some of the youngsters we had here in past years. Some of them really seemed like bright intelligent kids, wish we would hear from them occasionally. I've done my own dissapearing act from here many times, I just don't stay gone all that long, usually just a few weeks, or maybe a month tops. I'm like that bad penny, I just keep turning up! Work here is always sporadic. I'm just finishing up Christmas, so hopefully things will slow down a little for me, but vacation is coming up, so I still have a lot to do to get ready for that. I usually vanish for awhile in the spring, when all the dogs need groomed, the garden and flower bed needs planting and all that stuff. I am hoping at least this year to have a kidding season, although both of the bucks I bought have dropped down dead for no apparent reason. So I'm not sure about that just yet. I won't know about that until the end of March, first of April when they are due to start. They are so fat right now there's no telling. As for old and worn out, funny I think all the "seniors" here at Xisto are involved in this thread, kinda funny. Us old folks are really in the minority here for sure. rpgsearcherz 5 Report post Posted December 26, 2012 I'm kind of here and away myself again. It's mostly because the inactivity causes a perpetual cycle -- when people go inactive, others do. When others are inactive, more people do as well. And this cycle continues until it dies off (as it is now, where the people who actually take part are somewhat few and far between).I do still drop by from time to time though to take part in any discussions that have happened recently! sheepdog 10 Report post Posted December 31, 2012 Yes, during the really slow periods, I find it isn't worth the time checking in all the time because it still takes a lot of time scrolling through all the many forum topics just to see if there are new posts. So the slower it gets the less frequently I bother dropping in. I sure with it would pick up at least this next week. My hosting credits are getting pretty low, and vacation is coming soon, and I'd rather not have to worry about it while I'm gone.
