livepcportal 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Hey everyone, I have started working on my new site, and this time I will be using a cms to make my site and for that I decided to go with Joomla as in comparison to other famous cms like wordpress and drupal, I have bit of experience with Joomla, but, still I am completely a newbie to cms thus, first up I am trying to under how joomla works and how to develop my site with it, so, I have decided to try it out offline and for the purpose, I have downloaded and using WampServer. But, the actual problem is I can't make new user accounts on joomla to test how they perform, because a verification mail is needed to be sended before new user account is created, and that is my main problem :(The confirmation mail could not be send from the wampserver, I don't know what else I can do to resolve the issue, I already googled it but, found nothing much worth. So, is there anyone in this dead ks forum, who can help me out :PThanks in advance
Baniboy 3 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 Well, if I'm not wrong (which is quite possible...), what you need is a mail server. I'm not an expert in mail servers so I can't suggest you one, but what you do after you've installed a mail server is that you go to php.ini file (in one of your wampserver folders, I guess), and configure the stmp settings so that it uses the mail server. If you're using Microsoft Outlook I guess you can just configure the stmp settings to match and let it run.

You can use the hamster mail server. I think hamster can be used with XAMPP so it should go easily with WAMP as well. Let me know if this works out for you. and by the way here is the link to hamster.http://www.elbiah.de/hamster/pg/I have no clue of hamster in practical usage but you can try it and let us know the resilts. If anyone can explain in step by step procedure, it would be really helpful, and if not,at least tell me a free good web host, don't want to use mycents just to buy a hosting plan so that i can try joomla........ livepcportal 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 You can find that here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, scroll down to the part where it describes mail server configuration. Thanks baniboy for the link........but, guess what, I am still unable to make it work, really frustrated now, and probably rather than making wampserver able to send mail, it would be much easier and effective to get a free hosting account, so that I can test all the joomla and forum software stuff online, rather than trying to do it offline and getting a severe headache. So, now suggest me any good only free web host, with at least 2 mysql database and php and bit fast server, that can atleast handle me....lol, if they have any other extra feature, then it would be a real bonus, and for other things I am not much worried. The reason behind why I want free host is mainly because I don't want to spend my mycents to get a hosting account on xisto and get my account suspended because I need mycents to pay my domain name invoice, and the best thing is I don't even know how much time is left in front of me, to collect enough mycents...... Baniboy 3 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 As a free testing platform, it's easy to use http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, though the largest database size allowed is 1 MB or it was the last time I tried it.
mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 other sites like zymichost, hostwoot, hostcell and hostcolor can be used for the app testing. these people delete inactive accounts anyway. so you don't have to worry about the junk on web or your account after testing. just use it and leave the account and it will be removed. Not sure if they let you play with mail server and all but first 3 hosts have enough space in them to do that.

I tried zymichost, but, since it doesn't give cpanel, therefore I had to leave it, and hostwoot, is post to host, and I am kinda stuck at posting. I can't give my limited time to other forums posting there. And, hostcolor is not a free host as I didn't see the word "FREE" anywhere on their site. So, just wish hostcell will approve my account soon, so that, I can start playing with different cms..... vhortex 1 Report post Posted October 17, 2010 I have done just a quick scan for all the post in this thread and come to conclusion that you are trying to send mails via wamp/xampp. Xampp have its own mail server bundled and wamp have it's own mail support without the mail server. The problem of installing and making the mail server work is not related fully related on the installed mail server but on the fact that common internet provider block all the port needed to maintain a mail server locally which is a counter measure to prevent anyone from building a spam server. Each CMS and even forums can be reconfigured to use third party mail services and the most popular and reliable method is to use Gmail mail servers. There are a lot of information out in the web which tackle on how to bridge all mail needs to Gmail system. I am writing an article on about this but can't complete it yet due to hectic schedules. All my locally hosted websites that are in development have full email support enabled and some even have the option to create email accounts. The mail servers on the other hand was coded to hook all outgoing mails to route via gmail while the incoming ones are left as is. My ISP does not block the incoming ports.Thing to note with using Gmail service is that the server needs SSL connection calls and 128 bit encryption protocol. It sounds hard but relatively easy to be done.

You can use perfectZ and Host2x as well. They are allowing free hosting without any catch for quite some time now. And yes both of these companies allow cpanel on their hosting service. Hope this helps if hostcell fails. Not sure since when hostcolor went paid but i used to try that site for free upto august.
