Domain Registration Registration Time?

Recommended Posts

So I've registered a domain through Xisto - Web Hosting using myCent...I still need a couple bucks yet before I can make a hosting payment, but I hopefully plan to get that done in a couple days (shouldn't take me long, and in fact this post in itself may very well give me what I need. What concerns me:

How long does it take for the domain to get registered? From what I could read, it could be up to five days, but I want to be clear on this. Is it also the same with hosting? And if I attempt to register for hosting before the domain is approved, will that hinder me in any way?

What's next? I'm guessing it's simple enough to get the domain connected to hosting, provided what I mention above, but where do I go from there? I hear about a "cPanel" for Linux hosting, so I would guess I will be using that, but where is it located?

One problem with this service is how many sites there are...I can understand dividing Xisto from Xisto, as well as the billing website, but you have well over four or five sites linked in odd fashions. This is what makes it confusing for me.

Thanks!

congrats on your domain. when i registered a domain, it got registered within 12 hours for me. i don't really know what the average time frame is though. i would suspect it shouldn't take more than 24 hours unless it's a weekend. if you sign up for hosting and your domain isn't registered, i would just sign up for your hosting with the name of your domain(i think it asks if you have your own) and then maybe write a support ticket explaining your situation so there are no problems. to get your domain connected to your hosting, you just have to make sure the name servers are correct and you will have to allow about 24 hours for your domain to propogate.....and they say it can take up to 48 hours. you will get an email when your hosting is set up and it will tell you how to log in to your cpanel, your user name, temporary password, and and other information you will need to get you started. basically, i think you cpanel should be located at yourdomain.com/cpanel. i think before your domain propogates, it can be accessed through an ip address. again, that information should come to you in an email.if you have anymore questions after you have your domain and hosting account, feel free to ask more questions.

Thanks...got the domain registered now. Still was important for me to understand the rest, however. Thanks so much again!

Guess I'm not through with this yet! Ugh! I've tried to now obtain hosting, but because I've already got the domain name registered, it won't let me get hosting until I wipe the domain name clean since they require a domain name before they can offer the service. I sent a support ticket to see if they can take care of it for me manually. Who knows? I still don't get this site all the way. I think it's great one minute, and then they do/have something that get's me irritated and worried again.I'm not going to lose valuable time to myCents if I lose my myCents along the way!

If you write quality posts , you get more mycent and its probably why he got it in 50 posts. I got my hosting and domain when i reached around 120-150. And it took me 22 hours (i was checking almost every hour), it should take very fast, even in weekends and holidays (i don't know if they have the weekends off or not, its probably a shift, or they like to overwork :) )

You can select to add your xisto domain to the hosting package you're ordering. They ask for it in the next right after you've selected the hosting package. Assuming you have the right nameservers configured for the domain, you should be able to add that domain (choose to add an existing domain to hosting when asked) to the hosting package you're ordering. Why did you even order the domain before hosting? There's no point in doing that. You thought you could use the domain for something without a hosting package?

no no no. relax. yes, you need a domain or subdomain for hosting, but since you already put in to register a domain, suring the setup process, you should have clicked the option for an existing domain. this is an easy fix. you probably have your domain now and no hosting. you aren't going to lose your mycents. you have your domain, which is good. so now all you need is your hosting which is VERY easy to set up either through ordering hosting with a domain you already own, or through a support ticket to resolve your issues. be patient. it will all work out :)
