Haiti Earthquake

Recommended Posts

As you know, Haiti had a huge earthquake on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. The 7.3 degree quake occurred close to its capital city. It is reported that most of Haiti's high-ranked officials (ministers and above) are missing and some 85% of local doctors are buried under the wobbles. I have seen death toll estimates of about 50,000, 100,000 and 500,000.

Haiti is a poor nation. The quake must have created huge damages to the country and its people. It might even become a greater tragedy if the relief effortes do not go smoothly. If you would like to know more information about Haiti, the earthquake, the relief effort, and what you can do to help, you can visit the following websites:

Haiti isn't just a poor nation, its the poorest nation in Western Europe. and the damages are humongous. The worst thing was the nut job who blamed the earthquake on a deal they made with the devil 200 years ago (same guy who blamed New Orleans on a Lesbian Comedian) name escapes me but how harsh is that.Well, I wish them all the best, I hope the support makes it there okay and that the problem is sorted out quickly and efficiently.

It's too bad there wasn't some way of predicting when these earthquakes happen, so theycould have time to get people away from there. Hopefully there aren't as many deaths and injuriesas imagined.

The worst from all is the bands robbing poor people! My country, Macedonia sent some money in a sign of humanity. I'm so sorry for the children... i heard in some report from tv, the crew heard some crying from the destroyed building and they started digging with bare hand's and they found a 6 year old kid! I was like wtf?! :S

Hi!@kobra500Sharon Stone's attribution of the earthquake in China to karma was just as insensitive as the deal with the devil that you mention about (though I've never heard any mention about the deal with the devil; Sharon Stone's remark was probably more popularized due to her celebrity status).By the way, yesterday's newspaper had a comic strip in it with two scenarios:(i) Scenario one is war. There are innumerable airplanes flying toward their destination.(ii) Scenario two is international aid. There is one airplane, yes, exactly one plane, flying to provide food, water, and medical supplies. The Haitians may have lost their homes and their loved ones, but they haven't lost their spirit. They still dig through rubble and ruins with bare hands and whatever equipment they can muster to rescue other survivors.

Oh my GOD? Haiti in Western Europe? You must be kidding me? Did you learn any Geography?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiti - Look at the map, it's far from Europe.

The Republic of Haiti is located in the Caribbean basin (which, geographically, is part of North America), in the western one-third of the island of Hispaniola, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The Caribbean basin is near to Central America (East side).
It is situated to the west of the Dominican Republic.

Jamaica lies to the west and Cuba to the northwest of Haiti. The offshore islands of Tortuga and Gonâve also belong to Haiti.

Hispaniola is the second-largest island in the Greater Antilles (one of the 3 island groups in the Caribbean - it comprises of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico).
