deadmad7 4 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) BTW i think its better that you just clean install 2.8 or 2.9 and also deactivate ALL the plug-ins. This is where most people fail – you must deactivate all your plug-ins as they may conflict with the upgrade process. # Backup your database – this is very important, you should always backup your database before attempting to do any major changes to your blog and that includes and especially upgrading.# Equally important is to always backup your wodpress files. Again as #1 with all major changes, make sure you have a copy of all your blog files backedup – use an ftp and download all your files onto your hard drive.# Verify your backup – You should give step more importance and verify that you have all the blog files saved. Tedious I know but trust me, it will save you a lot of time and heartache later on should anything go wrong with the upgrade. A visual inspection of files on your hard drve in comparison to those on your server should surfice. Once you have all the steps up done and completed you are now ready to upgrade your wordpress installation. Now feel happy to to your admin panel and click on the “Auotmatic upgrade” button. If it still gives problems just post here and i will help =) Edited January 5, 2010 by deadmad7 (see edit history)
web_designer 7 Report post Posted January 5, 2010 thanks for your response, but i already deactive all plugin but the problem is in cpanal i hosted in logic plan (lunix i mean ) and i installed wordpress using fantastico which is seems it supports wordpress 2.5 and this version doesn't have an automatic upgrade i don't really very sure but that option maybe it became after version 2.6 or more so when i tried to upgrade manually by uploading the zip and extracted it in the main root the extract didn't complete, i wish could give you a clear idea about my problem. k_nitin_r 8 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Hi!@web_designerIf you were unable to extract the ZIP file, you might want to raise a support ticket for someone from the customer support department to help you with it. You could also try uploading the unzipped files through FTP (use CuteFTP Professional, or if you are looking for something you can get for free, try FileZilla FTP or Core FTP. After replacing all of the original WordPress files with the newer files, you ought to be able to log in to the dashboard to see the upgrade database link. You are right about WordPress 2.5 not including the automatic update feature - it was introduced in either WordPress 2.6 or 2.7. mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Best way to work with updates is download "Wordpress automatic upgrade" plugin. And enable the plugin. Once enabled it will notify whenever there is any update. And it works much better than the core update feature. I have seen the core update feature broken in many cases. So i prefer to use this plugin. It works like charm and i never had any issues with it. Also do upgrade this plugin whenever necessary.
BuffaloHelp 24 Report post Posted January 11, 2010 If you are still having a tough time, submit a support ticket to Xisto - Support. I am not sure if they will respond immediately but usually they will guide you through the process. Not that WordPress instruction isn't good enough when you are upgrading, but Xisto - Support can access your account and fix things if you are having a major hard time.
