I have a question.

I want to try ubuntu .The question is : i can play lineage2 cstrike etc... (games) on ubuntu?

I know i need wine but i see for every game you need other version of wine. Or is a version for all? or?

Wine is good, but I don't think you'll be able to play all the newest games with it. Some games are even purposedly made that they won't work with WINE.But you can always try dual booting if you're a gamer. Therefor you'll be able to boot to windows when you want and play games. But since you only want to "try" ubuntu, you should get a LiveCD and try it out without installing, so you'll see if you like it or not(you'll probably like it since it hasn't BSOD :P).

Downloads for Ubuntu 9.04 came available just last week. Keep us posted on your progress and ask any questions you might have about Ubuntu specifically or Linux generally. There are a few Linux users around.

If you need linux for server then Samba/HttpD/Uniform server are good option. you can choose from it. On the point of games, ID softwares games are released for linux as well. there are many other top game developement companies are coming with gaming title for linux. you can ask your questions related to gaming and server in ubuntuforums. You can ask your question over there and some friendly ubuntu users will surely reply to your post.I'm sure some gamers on linux found out about CS. cause i'm not sure about that game but doom/civilization are ported for linux platform.

Check over at the UbuntuForums.org site.
There might be a solution there.
Can you fire up Ubuntu using a Live CD? What Model of Dell Laptop? What Video system are you running? There was a Intel chip giving problems for 9.04 nd they blacklisted the card.
