Video Camcorder Advice wanted, please

Video camcorders(hopefully this is the right area to post in) are something I know very, very little about.More or less I am wanting to know what a decent(although semi-low priced) camcorder would cost that would do the following:Record video(obviously) onto a hard drive, or another medium that would allow you to record the video to discs, email to others, post on Youtube, etc.Take digital photos - decent quality. I can't stand the ones that have such bad quality it's all fuzzy.Can record sound decently - sound is a big issue with me. The echoey sound bothers me...The sound that says "Hah! This is a home movie!"If there are no semi-low priced ones, can anyone give advice in general? Like what is a good MP to look for in them, what is a good zoom ratio, etc? Wow yes that is some good HD.

yea HD camcorders are way to go, but the cheap ones, even tho they have high resolution, have still that bad quality feel.It'll look fuzzy since most of the cheap ones don't have the stabilizator thingies (I don't know the exact name of them, but they soften the shaking of your hands so it doesn't affect the movie so much). For the sound I'm afraid you'll have to buy a mic, I know you don't want to go around filming with a damn mic in your hand but the quality won't go any higher than that. Or you could buy one of those expensive ones that have all the freaky gadgets in them.

My parents just got one for holidays ect... Concerts...And they recorded one of a frog out in the garden uploaded it on some Image hosting site and got over 1 million views in a week!And that was there first video upload and people where amazed at the quality.

Good megapixels is not neccessary for a digital (or analogue) video camera, instead, you want to look for the light filtering; white balance; zoom functionality; Frames Per Second factor; weight; size etc...

 

I specifically chose the Sony Handycam HC24E not only because its cheap, and even though its 1.2MP - it has a high framerate, very light, lots of functions and white balancing (ie, environment modes, outdoors, flouresant etc...) and nightmode and photo mode.

 

Not forgetting that it has surround sound recording

 

my review is 5/5 - battery lasts for ages too.

I bought mine about 3 years ago with my christmas money - it was Ł180 then, but i guess now it'd be no more than Ł120-Ł150.

Shop around currys or jessops, sony says they are supposseed to be a supplier for them.

Its not HD, but yeah, HD camcorders are pretty darn expensive. I would only recommend getting HD if you:
1. Have a HD television + HD dvd box
2. Have plentiful of DVDs
3. Are going to film nature, trees and pretty much darn everything.

The DV camera is just standard and good enough quality for home videoing and for memory tapes.

The worlds best camera must be the Canon 1D - its roughly 6 grand

Im getting the 1000d, which is ?400 - but the features on these cameras are amazing.

Video camcorders have become more and more popular. They have been fairly popular in the United States. I have bought 2 camcorders. The first one is a Sony 8 mm (analog) camcorder that records video on a tape. It is not much better than a basic model. But, it is great. It still works today after 13 or 14 years. The only problem is it is outdated.About 3 years ago, I bought a JVC 8mm digital camcorder after quite some research. It records on a 8 mm tape in digital format. So, the video can be transferred to a computer easily. According to my research, 8 mm digital was the way to go back then. Hard drive didn't have enough capacity to offer good video quality. The digital camcorder is much smaller and handy than the old Sony analog one. It is capable of taking digital pictures.The specific model has higher somewhat resolution than the basic model, but not very high. Sony did not have something similar. That was the main reason I decided to buy the JVC. That turned out to be a bad decision on my part. The camcorder worked well for a while. But, then it started to quit recording video from time to time. It sometimes gives you a dark screen when you try to record. The problem would come and go at the beginning. Then, all it did was to give me a dark screen when attempting to shoot. I went to the internet and JVC's website. There were discussions about this kind of quality problems of JVC video camcorders. JVC even had a program that would fix the problem for you at no charge (something like that), but my model was not covered by that program. Today, the JVC still sits there doing nothing. There is little chance that it will come back at some point. So, my advice is to buy a fairly basic camcorder and buy Sony. Camcorders are quite sophiscated. They are a bit easily broken. They are relatively expensive among electronics. Though computers are more expensive, they most likely can be fixed if broken, normally by replacing certain parts. So, buy basic models and buy the best brand.

very informative reading here. Been looking for a cam camcorder for my website. Looked into Sony and JVC and was not happy with there prices at all. I like some that have posted know little of camcorders right now and there formats they record in. My advice is this and simple. Google is your friend when it comes to finding out the best of the best. The cams that I have looked at Sony, JVC,DXG, along with many others all can be found on the web along with all there specs and even reviews which I really liked before spending the bucks.Good Luck
