jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted December 9, 2008 Try Ubuntu 8.10, the latest release. It is quite user friendly and can by dual-booted along side Windows, too.
liod 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Does it detect USB Flash Drive whitout installing any driver?
xpress 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Yes Liod.....It detects your flash drive without installing any drivers....its a live cd also. So you can try it without installing it. Just try....you'll definitely like Ubuntu....
rvalkass 5 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 Yes. Ubuntu detects pretty much all hardware without installing drivers. The exception is graphics cards, which function best with proprietary drivers (although Ubuntu do provide their own drivers).
mahesh2k 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2008 If you're concerened about Drivers then try Mepis or Ubuntu/Kubuntu or Linspire. If you're having internet connection you can even get updates and drivers for some of your devices. My personal recommendation is to go with Ubuntu. If you're not sure about if you want to install or not, in such case try LiveCD for those Linux Flavours.

Saint_Michael 3 Report post Posted December 11, 2008 Yeah I have to go with Ubuntu as well, though I do not use it much it is easy to configure and install in various ways such as the flash drive or through DVD. I know there are other flavors besides Ubuntu that you could try out but I stick with Ubuntu because I know the right people to ask if I have questions or problems about this Ubuntu. miladinoski 1 Report post Posted December 12, 2008 You should definitively go w/ Ubuntu 8.10 because it's the fastest release at me (I know that there were reviews which showed that in fact it was slower) and it has a huge repository of F/LOSS software and it doesn't have viruses! I switched to Ubuntu (and to GNU/Linux in general) 1 year ago, and I am not coming back to Windows, or even worse, buying a Mac
