TheDisturbedOne 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 I just got a new domain, and want to move the stuff from my old site to the new domain. The problem is it is all on the root directory. How can I easily move everything?
jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 Look in your Cpanel and use the Backup feature to create a zip file, then upload the zip file to the new Domain.Select the public_html Folder as the target for the backup.
xpress 0 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 Actually there is not need to move data to work with the new domain. You can simply add your new domain as a parked domain to your current hosting account. It works fine. But if you want to change the hosting also, then as jlhaslip told use the backup tool. TheDisturbedOne 1 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 By parking it, will I get DNS on it? Such as will http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ be the same page as mysite.trap17.com/view.php without it being redirected? Currently I have http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ as the same as dmb.trap17.com, but I want to make it so that the .com will have the pages rather than redirect to dmb.trap17.com's pages. rvalkass 5 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 Parking the domain will cause what you want. Here comes the shameless plug Take a look at my site at either of these addresses.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/rvalkass.co.uk is a parked domain on my account, so if you park a domain on your account then it will work in exactly the same way. Click through a couple of pages, and you will notice the domain should always stay as whatever link you originally arrived from.

TheDisturbedOne 1 Report post Posted November 10, 2008 Sorry for the double post, but if I were to edit it, I don't think it would be seen. It doesn't work with the domain I got from here (disturbedmb.com), it just does the normal redirect.
jlhaslip 4 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 When I visit to disturbedmb.com, I get a Forum index page that lists the URL as http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/.It is quite typical for a Forum to store the Absolute address of the Forum in its Configuration information, so regardless of which Domain you access the index.php for the Forum from, it will display the URL of the Forum's config address. A Parked Domain will not alter that unless you mod the Config information using phpmyadmin, or perform a re-install using the new Domain name.
xpress 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2008 Yes...what jlhaslip told is correct. You can do any one of those methods he suggested. In the future when you install a new software like a forum or cms make sure you do it with the new domain name. There'll be an option to choose the domain you want to use for this installation(in your case your subdomain of trap and your main domain). Select your prefered domain.
