Me Being Jelous

Recommended Posts

First of all: I made a huge mistake when applying for school this year. I choose something that will give me good opportunities, but it is very boring and theoretical. I have these classes; social studies, gym, mathematics, Norwegian, English, Spanish, geography, nature study. Last year I had also art/drawing/painting, religion, history and music.I wanted to go on Media & Communication. I want to play around with Photoshop all day long. To be serious I probably know a lot more that some of them will do in a long time... I have worked with it for ages. (Well, at least a few years.) Instead of creating beautiful and wonderful graphics in Photoshop I am stuck with learning new expressions in English. Playing basketball. Learning about the surface of the earth. New weird Spanish words...And yes I am jelous! I have not got bad grades at all so I would easily be accepted. I have got several friends that wanted to go there but their grades were too bad. Sometimes I want to go over and strangle some of those kids that do go on M&C. I laugh when I see them join groups on Facebook where they love Photoshop, or adding new pictures from their splended day at school doing all the wonderful things they do. Arg....but I want to be them. They have not got as much homework as I do. I would love to learn how I can create a good website, code stuff and work with graphics. It is my dream - it is all I want. But of course stupid little Bluebear wanted to go somewhere she would actually get a good job that pays a lot of money. After I started at this new school I have barely opened up Photoshop. I am not getting anywhere with my website, and everything is just boring!I am used to being one of the top girls in my class - and now I am not. It is a much higher level. Everyone is better than me. I like languages and I am not too bad in English and I was considered very good in Spanish. Of course I end up in a class where some English boy is. Very fun... not. And my Spanish class? Please, come on.I want to have a reason to buy a great camera. Every single kid in M&C has one. I am jelous as hell. Those little bastards... I want to blame someone, but in reality I can only blame myself. Yuck.

That's too bad but, ya know, you can still find the time to do this stuff on the side and teach yourself. Even if you're really busy where you are now, if you organize your schedule well and don't procrastinate too much in doing work for your classes you'll have plenty of time to work with photoshop and web design and have time left over to have a life otherwise. I would know-I've taken the hardest possible schedule at my school the last two years and I've still managed to pursue some of my hobbies and still have time for parties and stuff. You can teach yourself everything you really need to know on your own, so just keep working towards it while doing good in your regular classes and, rest assured, your future will be very bright.

I know it mat sound counter intuitive but if you choose what you really love to do then you will stick at it AND enjoy it. Then y ou will better at it and if you are good enough at what you do you will soon become an expert. If you can become an expert at something you will have a better career and a better wage.So do what you love and accept what you are good at. Don't be jealous but enjoy what you have and who you are. You are different-enjoy that and let THEM be jealous :)And have some fun!KJ

get a good job that pays a lot of money

Bingo.
I had to make a similar choice recently (my GCSEs).
A lot of the kids in my school had to choose the GCSEs they did because they were the only ones they had a chance of getting an A. Luckily I'm pretty average in every subject (not good, just average enough to get an A, which isn't very hard in the UK) so I had the full spectrum of subjects at my fingertips. Needless to say I had to make some hard decisions, for instance: I would KILL to do music technology- everyday my friends come and boast about the awesomeness of the course (making dance music at the moment, DANCE MUSIC!!!!!11)- but I decided not to.

Here were my choices:
History, Maths, English, Triple Sciences (biog, chem, phys), Art, German, Latin, Greek.

Every single kid and his mate is doing Art, but I love it, and the exam sounds excellent (10 hours to make some good :) ). Maths, Science and History are standard choices as well- I'll have to try bloody hard to get As in them.
This brings me to my last three options:
German, Latin, Greek
These are RATE hard subjects to get As in, but if I do it'll almost guarantee me a place at Cambridge (I hope...) because they're such specialist subjects. For example: there are four kids in my German set, Latin is THE most highly regarded subject, and Greek is almost as highly regarded as Latin but is only practised in a handful of schools.

I don't love all my subjects, I gave up: Music, Design Tech, Philosophy, Geography (easiest of all to get an A in, just bloody boring), and Drama. Yet they're the most useful to me.

The guys doing 'Media & Communication' have absolutely no edge. If M&R is anything like 'Media Studies' (English equivalent me thinks) then the guys doing it will never be able to get high flying jobs.
The fact you know three modern languages (I dropped French and now only do German) will help you IMMENSELY in a business related job. Knowing three languages well will ensure you a place in many transnational corporations (I got that from Geography last year by the way, just another reason you should stick to it). I'd say screw the M&R guys, they'll probably end up as burnt out acid heads anyway- or whatever drug is popular for college drop-outs in Norway.
Good luck! :)
