Firefox 2 To Firefox 3 - Is It Worth Upgrading? Lets settle this matter once and for all.

I wont upgrade.The new firefox has a better render system that makes it a little more faster, but with the new features it is some slow.For example every time that i want to enter an address in the bar, it opens and starts to search for a similar one. There appears from the porn sites to the news one, so it is more a disturb than a feature. Also it makes the browsing slow for me as i have a Pentium 3 machine.For all the people that wants to test it, just let firefox 2 installed and install it and take your own conclusion, maybe if your pc is faster than mine you will not notice the slow process of some features.Regards, Seba.

On the topic of extensions, I think it's amazing how little you actually rely on them. Whenever Firefox is upgraded I always manage to uninstall all but five or six of my extensions just because when they suddenly don't work, I realise that they weren't that necessary at all. Besides, all the popular extensions like Adblock and ForecastFox have been compatible with Fx3 since the beta versions came out. On top of that, quite a few extensions are actually compatible with the newest version despite claiming they're not. To find out if your old extensions are compatible, type about:config into the address bar awesome bar , find extensions.checkCompatibility and set the value to "false". (You may need to create a new boolean value yourself if it doesn't exist. To do this, right click anywhere, select New -> Boolean - the rest should be fairly obvious.) Be aware this might damage your browser. If it does, start Firefox in safe-mode and simply change the said value to "true".

 

My only really concern would be that Firefox 3.0.0.0 is quite vulnerable and there will be many security fixes come 3.0.0.1. But this isn't really much cause for concern; if you're careful and only browse respectable sites, you'll be fine.

Basically, yes. I doubt themes will work though because the design of the browser has changed so much since Firefox 2. For instance, this is Noia 2.0 (eXtreme), which is designed for Firefox 2, under Firefox 3:

Yea it's kinda hard to tell but you can see where things don't look right on the skin.

Like you said also most skins will not look right at all but theres always that small chance that they may look appeasing to the eye.

eh its the same speed really.. i like the new look of your bookmarks that show underneath the navigation bar/look of the google search box next to it.. but thats about it.. the BACK & Forward thing is gay looking.. the X, Refresh and Home box are gay too, the navigation bar gives too much info about the websites youve visited... unwanted information if you ask me.and theres no little.. GO button at the end of the navigation bar, i liked that button.. and.. theres a newsfeed or whatever icon at the end of the navigation bar along with a gay star.. which is odd..so yea.. i like firefox.. but firefox 3, is a gay update of my love():

I was a huge fan of Firefox at the times (around 1 year ago), and though I still love it, its not that big like in the past.

Instead, I fell in love with Opera, with its awesome community and support.

I like Firefox mostly because of its extensibility, but lets admit it, without the extensions Firefox is just a piece of crap (of course not worse than IE - nothing is worse than IE) and its 10 times worse than Opera. But luckily, it has the extensions and its huge user base (hkm, fanboys, hkm.. ).

Every upgrade is worth it, especially a browser upgrade, not only you get new features, but you get things which people don't notice the first time, and those are:

- Standards compatibility

- Speed (and for me most important)

- Security

 

I will continue to spread Opera, but I will also recommend Firefox whenever I can

Nah, even without the extensions, rendering websites properly and being more secured and eating less memory are some of the better features. The extensions are just a bonus and on top of that most extension designers don't even bother updating them, and of top of that there are a lot of junk extensions out there and I wouldn't mind seeing them clean up their extension database and get rid of some of those unused extensions.@server Yeah I saw that website as well and was tempted to post that on the forums but decided not to, because it seems a bit impractical to write a e-book on something everyone knows already.

Firefox 3 is g8.. Much better nav bar and status bar... It also has a new download manager like the one in safari.. dont know about the security n all... Im currently using it...

Firefox 3 is a lot faster than the previous version. It's also more stable, less memory hungry and the bookmark system is just brilliant. There's one thing I didn't like in Firefox 3 and that's a really dumb address bar so I had to download an add-on that converts the new address bar to the one from Firefox 2. It's called oldbar and can be downloaded here. Overall, results met the expectations and I'm even more happier user of Mozilla Firefox.

Oh yeah, firefox 3 is faster, more responsive, better looking, doesn't crash like my old one did. But I didn't try the betas so i switched directly from firefox 2 to firefox 3. I'm lovin it!

I just recently upgraded to FireFox 3. To be honest, I haven't noticed THAT much of a difference yet. The only real difference I can see is the minor graphic changes.A con is.. I can't use all my extensions yet.
