Recommended Posts

Ok I just bought a domain name from yahoo.com (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) Right now my website is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ want to be able to change my domain so when I visit http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it will direct everything. Forsay when I hit downloads it will direct to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ not http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I havent set it up yet and I just want to be able to change this information so it works. I know that the re-direction thing is much easier to do but I want the site to be more professional looking so if anyone can help me with this step by step on how to do this, it would be great.

Go to your Cpanel and Park the new Domain onto the Trap subdomain should work fine.

Be sure to point the Domain Nameservers to the Xisto DNS as per the recent Announcement found here.

I just parked the Domain at ageofilluminati.com so now I guess the next step is to change my advanced DNS settings on my yahoo account to point towards the Xisto DNS servers? This means adding in a new A Record right?

Oh and the DNS servers for my website, how do I find those? Is it the link that you gave me already because when I got finished with the parked domain it listed:

Using nameservers with the following IPs: 66.218.71.205,216.109.116.20Created DNS entry for ageofilluminati.com

Is that all I have to do? I would think that I would probably have to do more like something on my yahoo account. My domain name hasn't delegated across the net yet so I wont be able to find out for a couple of hours but I want to get this done as-well during the meantime because then I wont have to wait additionally for these changes to take place.

Ok I just changed these settings in my yahoo advanced DNS settings.

Type: Source: Destination: Actions:A Record ageofilluminati.com 66.218.71.205 Edit | Delete
A Record http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ 216.109.116.20 Edit | Delete
CNAME Record *.ageofilluminati.com Yahoo! Hostname Edit | --
CNAME Record mail.ageofilluminati.com Yahoo! Hostname Edit | --

Well I figured out the domain parking but whenever I go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it still doesnt work. What do I change my advanced domain settings too?

Ah well I just replaced the name servers with the following.

ype: Hostname:Name servers have been modified from default. Services may not be hosted by Yahoo!
Primary ns.computinghost.com
Secondary ns2.computinghost.com

Ah so thats what you meant . Well it takes 30 minutes to work so ill post back if it works. Thanks.

When you change your nameserver, it may take up to 72 hours before you can use your domain name. So prepare to wait until it is resolved completely.Just changing nameserver will do just fine. No need to change CNAME.Parking your domain was very nice way to tackle this issue. And later when you are comfortable that your sub-domain is no longer used by your visitors, unpark your domain and use Manage page to "change" your domain name to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. This will complete the transition.

This is so confusing, I just clicked on parked domains and nothing was there. I tried to add Ageofilluminati but it says:

Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 67.19.253.52,64.69.35.177 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ip.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver.

THis keeps getting more and more confusing.

Oh and I couldnt find "Manage Page" is this in the Cpanel?

Have you defaulted or changed back to a default value for A record and CNAME? You should only change nameservers but not both nameservers and A record plus CNAME.Since I can't see your domain control I will have to assume that you have to set A record and CNAME back to default values to Park your domain properly.

The CNAME and A Records are set to default. The only thing I changed was the Name Servers.Primary: ns.computinghost.comSecondary: ns2.computinghost.comI then added ageofilluminati.com to the parked domains and it gave me the same error that is listed ubove. Im guessing if I change the name servers to default it will work again.

No. Your nameservers must be pointed the way it is.Your current domain's ping result returns as:216.39.62.117If you managed your domain the way it should be, the ping result should be:64.69.46.210So, this means your domain is parked or "owned" by something else than Xisto. Thus, your cpanel cannot take the ownership, a.k.a. Park Domain. The IP 216.39.62.117 is pointed to ALTAVISTA COMPANY. Does this help you resolve what's wrong with your domain situation? Again, remember that whatever you make changed to your domain controller it will take some time to reflect properly.

I think I figured the problem out.

Yahoo!'s name servers must be listed as Primary and Secondary in order for Yahoo! to host your domain services properly. If you add to or replace Yahoo!'s default nameservers, you will disrupt the services that Yahoo! provides.

So I have to add the Xisto - Web Hosting name servers in the additional field.

As for the parked thing am I going to have to contact yahoo about this? I mean it should change, all the info is set to default other than the name servers.

Yes, I have accessed your domain control and have fixed the situation.Give it some time to resolve completely. I can see your domain and it looks good.I have also replied regarding your URL issue and that's something you have to fix from your forum database. Usually, the forum admin panel can reassign the full URL where the forum is installed. Once you do all your HREF issue will be corrected.
