Australian Prison Has Better Living Quarters Than My Apartment. This is called humane.

Recommended Posts

This is getting a bit extreme. Fair enough if you want prisoners to have basic standards of living and not live in inhumane conditions e.g. that photo of the prison in the Phillipines is a little less than what I would consider adequate but seriously; paved courtyards, basketball courts etc? That's just over the top. The Government money could seriously be spent elsewhere in a more useful manner.

RediculousAustralian Prison Has Better Living Quarters Than My Apartment.

KainRacure,

I can see where your coming from, but you seem to feel hard done by this, and not really keeping an open mind here, about so many things.

When you think of a criminal do you think of some dirty, smelly disgusting yellow tooth fat unshaven jerk that's laughing his head off when he rapes young girls, or do you think of a family man that works his *bottom* off and lost his temper one day because someone assaulted his wife and the *hit to the head* got him done for manslaughter ?  Because the truth is both cases will land you in the same place.

Yes I agree that in the case of someone who has nothing to lose and no home, who hurts people, it is a bit of a waste of our money to send them to resort style living, however...There are people out there that have worked really hard and found a niche in life, they have their partner, their one in a lifetime full time job, a successful business on the side, and a heap of debt that they are managing and life is all good, until they get a bit ambitious and carried away and end up put away for fraud.

You cannot say that that person, who got carried away, and arguably reached some desperate point of no return, deserves to be thrown in a cold concrete dungeon with a steel bucket for a toilet in a 1m x 1m cell.

The truth is, you could give that person a spa, cable TV, internet, back rubs, the whole works, and he would still be living in torture because he has lost everything, his Jobs, his credit rating, his reputation, his record, his family, etc.  Once he gets out he may or may not have family to stay with until he rebuilds his life and makes it all the way to a burger salesman at McDonald's, with serious mental problems and anxiety to last him a lifetime.

So stop being so small minded and attacking a very thoroughly thought out system just because YOU think people deserve worse conditions.

I pay over $50000/year in tax and I am more than happy for part of it to go toward upgrading prison conditions.  Not everyone in prison is a filthy murderer, let's give some people a little bit of dignity and hope, and equip them with some sanity for when they inevitably return to our community.

Even with all those facilities you can't change a prison to a home, or even house so prison will always be prisons only and thats why I always love my small apartment with limited facilities over there but lots and lots of love and affection and respect for every one in my family and thats what is the base line which makes my apartment a heaven for me.?

really why don't you get yourself into a US jail (even a min security one) and let us know how it feels then :) since it is better than your house?

do you like staring at the walls in a 10x10 claustophic space with nothing to do except tv for 22 hours a day for years?

do you like being locked up in a hard concrete jungle for years?

do you like ****ty food?

do you like your basic liberty taken away from you for years?

do you like not having sex, no porn, no talking to wife/kids, no job, no nothing for years?

do you like making friends with rapists and violent people?

retard like yourselves make me laugh..

Sometimes some people who sit in prison, just after going back to live, they are a bit lost with the new things, and some can't find a job and etc. they just do something again and get back to prison to eat some hot soup..

In some places, prisoners share beds, eat stuff you would normally give to stray dogs and use facilities much cleaner than the streets. You can't battle with the simple facts of life and society, no matter how unfair it has become. RICH COUNTRIES=good prison quarters... POOR COUNTRIES= unimaginably horrible (even for prisoners) prison quarters.

This is absolutely ridiculous! They get a better life for committing a crime, and it is FREE! I would committ a crime to get INTO prison, aha.It is costing people a lot of tax money. I say we give them the very basic needed to live, if that. Use that money to help shelter homeless people (not the ones who are homeless from drug abuse, or their own fault). These people need the living conditions more than freaking jail inmates...

USA prisons are nothing like that, the only time you have to be in your cell if when your sleeping. The rest of the time they have a library, a kitchen, a basketball court a gym, cable tv and wifi

You obviously fail to understand the reasoning of why they built it or you simply do not understand the benefits of why they built it and/or you believe the negatives outweigh the positives.Sure you can go on about the negatives all you like and call it stupid and idiotic but atleast try and understand the reasons why they have done it.Incase you can't understand I will give you some reasons:HUMAN RIGHTS. If for one second you give up on the human rights of somebody then I for one pitty you. Someone who has commited murder should still have the rights to not be in pain (for two wrongs do not make a right) but incase we are talking about petty crimes whereby this new facilily will be able to "correct" the wrongs of the prisoner. If all petty crimes and even some major crimes were to be served in prisons were by rape, torture and brutality existed (and trust me they do exist) then I believe you have lost your sense of morallity no matter how bad the crime may be. However you may not believe that this be deserved apun all criminals and that this method of facilitating is simply an extreme of the opposite and you are happy with how prisons are. I understand this may be the case however you automatically have a bias opinion as you have more then likely not spent a single hour in a what can be considered a "normal" prison. So even if these prisoners were given more rights, more chances to improve and a higher chance to correct their wrongs would society not benefit? For if you treat a human like a dog eventually that human will start barking and what good is returning an animal back into society? If anyone honestly understood the conditions of an actual prison then you would understand where these benefits are to help the individual and the society I just hope you have not already lost faith for that is truelly saddening.I do not question your negatives other then saying they are bias on the fact that you have almost no understanding of what you are attempting to talk about but you can not deny that these positives are very much going to help the society the question is "at what cost?"In terms of costs here is a little research comparison take of it as you will...Imprisoning a single prisoner costs about $269 a day, on average, in Australian detention facilities, or about $98,185 per inmate each year. (Source: Report on Government Services, 2009, quoting Productivity Commission figures for 2007-8, see figure 8.13).
