Parents Tracing My Tracks Someone Please

Recommended Posts

This is a long story. I used to watch some bad movies and my parents caught me. My dad is very good at PC therefore he has found it out somehow through his office as he works in my ISP company. That can be understood but when i got a CD and unzipped it and saw it and deleted he still found out. Can anyone help me and tell me how he is doing all this. I checked the whole pc for software related to this but he still gets it out somehow.

There are softwares available that will "spy" on you from inside a PC. It acts like a watchdog for Parental Controls (your situation), and dissallows users from installing or activating certain softwares and can also submit daily/weekly reports by email to the Authority who installed the "spy" ware. Some of them also include keyloggers and a bunch of other things which are normally "malware", but since it is specifically installed, I don't think even an anti-virus will catch it since it is authorized. Good luck with it.

first, let me just say that was a "short" story. ;) as for your concern, i'd say you're giving us all a moral dilemma here. ;) if we show you how your dad does it (ways of "catching" you), you will just find a way to circumvent your parent's wishes for you to avoid watching bad movies (i don't want you to elaborate more though :) we get the drift.) should we help you or not? ;)on a technical note however, jlhaslip's reply regarding keyloggers could be it. and then there's the more classic "undelete" tools you can find which are widely used for data recovery. those 1's and 0's your deleted file used on your harddrive is hardly gone with a simple delete command. traces of it can be found, and easily recovered even after some time.

This was posted in the counseling forum. But this topic is more of a technical thing. By the place it was posted in, it implies that you want advice to help you stop watching "bad" things—which would be the better thing to do. ;) Uninstalling these spyware programs may not help you stop getting in trouble. There are many ways to find out what you did on the computer—not just by using spyware programs. If you want to stop getting in trouble, the answer is simple: Stop watching "bad" things. Since your dad knows his way around a computer (probably Windows), he may go all out even more if he finds out that you were messing around with his "parental" settings (which wouldn't be a hard thing to figure out). That would get you into more trouble than what you are already are in.

^ I agree with that. This kinda happened to me, but after a while, i learned my 'lesson' and its all back to normal. But it might go as well for you, so yeah my best recommendation would be stop doing what you were doing before, and do the opposite, worked for me. Oh yeah, he might have a key logger, remote desktop, parental controls, everything. Good luck ;)

Im surprised he hasn't just a superblock on your ip address and thus limited you what sites you oculd go to. But like everyone else, we are not going ot tell you how to do it because its not our job to raise you properly so wait till your 18 or 21 and then get your house and look at all the bad stuff you want.

Well...my advice would be to avoid opening any files unless you're 100 percent certain that the contents are "okay." That way, you can't get into trouble for looking at things that your Dad has deemed inappropriate. Whether it's intentional or not, he's still responsible for you and what happens with the computer. As for how your Dad is finding these things? Eh...there are lots of ways, as other people have already said. There's really no way of figuring it out unless one has a general idea of what to look for. And even then, you aren't guaranteed to actually find anything. Some of the parental-control software out there does a very, very good job of hiding itself.

Theres a program to hide your Ip address, and a program that will delete all the unseen info. on your computer so it can never be recovered again. They do cost money, and are not free. I know a couple, and there might be evaluation versions availbale. But, like said before just lsiten to ur parents and ur better off ;)

You said he worked for your Internet Service Provider...That would be why.All your files downloaded and uploaded through the internet (not on an internal network) can be traced. They will store everything you do on the internet i think it is for something like 15 years, this is some act made by the govements in most countrys, this is how they catch pedo's e.t.cTherefore, if you downloaded these files from the internet, they will be stored on a server at the datacenter from where your internet it connection through. Which would mean if your Parent works for the IPS they can easily go through the content of everything that you have done from their work computer, but only if they had access to the right area, by the sounds of things your dad basicly looked through your history...and i will asume by bad movies, you mean porn..

Shift+Delete all files. Never send to recycle bin. Also check the recent documents menu in the start menu. You can clear that list(but it will look very suspicious if nothing is there, so open a bunch of ''safe'' documents to replace the deleted list) by right clicking on the start button and going to properties. The option to clear your recent documents should be somewhere along those lines. Also you can go into the options of your 'movie player' and delete it's cache of recently viewed movies. Internet Explorer and most browsers have their own histories as well. A lot of people forget how many programs really carry histories, you'd be amazed if you didn't know. Also (which I don't suggest doing unless desktop clutter and other stuff gets in the way) make an Administrator Account for yourself and then password it and set it to private. This way not even other administrators without some good tools can look into the files on your profile. .shrugs.

If its a truly sophisticated tracker, it might even be a rootkit, which would be a complete waste of time to even try to find. However rootkits are very complex to write, and usually cost a lot. You can always completely format your hard drive and then the tracker won't exist. You will want to POWER OFF completely before doing this, and don't load from the hard drive. Rebooting can allow the code to stay in memory, sometimes anyway. Just save your important files. If he's still getting info on you after he did it, it either was reinstalled or isn't on your computer.

Pretty much, like everyone else said, you really can't avoid getting caught. If you want to look at bad things, do it at a friends house using their computer. Just don't get them in trouble. Or you can do the better thing and just stop doing the bad things you are getting in trouble for. The reason you get in trouble is because they are "bad" or you aren't old enough to do/see these "bad" things and your parents want to make sure you don't do them until you are old or mature enough. They could see what you typed anyway trying to get around it so when they may already be waiting for you to try and stop it. Good luck though on whichever you decide, hopefully the one for the better.
