Unregistered 012 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2007 Ya, i really like Vbulletin and Invision Power Board but i do not feel like using the money to get them. I used to use Invision free but i got sick of it. Now i am looking into using myBB. On my last site i used phpbb and i really liked it. I am thinking about using it for my new site again too. I have to decide between myBB and phpbb for my site. But my favorite out of all of the ones that i have used would have to be phpbb. It has many great skins to choose from with a lot of mods that make the board better.

SamiFX 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2007 I use phpBB for a years caus it's free and fast to load... but Invision Power is not free I can't pay to get it while a good forum like phpBB still free to all people
Usedragon2009 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2007 I always thought the best forum would be phpbb other than vbulletin. I liked phpbb and continue using because of the mods, you can play with. IPB is somewhat a good forum but i had hard time what you have to do on the mods or finding a good mods site.
sniperkiller 0 Report post Posted March 18, 2007 well i've tried almost all forums, phpBB, vBulletin, IPB, myBB, and otherbut the forums i mostly use are invisionfree ones, since they are free and the configuration aint so hard at allbut lately my interest has gone to cms systems, they are almost like forums but heh not at all ^^now i mostly use php-nuke cms system and they got phpBB forums with it ^^so my choice now is fully phpBB, the skins for it are nice and the configuration is almost like the IPB onealso there are mods enough for phpBB and the BB code mods are fun ^^
reconraiders 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2007 My choice again and again has been MyBB. It has all the great features of IPB and others except it's FREE. I love it and I hope it gets more popular so there can be even MORE mods and skins!
Tetraca 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2007 My personal favorite to use is FlatForum. If I need something with more power I go to FlingForum. If that will not do then I go to YaBB. If that will not do I will go to SMF. IPB 2.x is the best I've seen, and if I wanted to pay for it I'd use it. phpBB is the worst i've seen - it's too big for what it does, I hate working with it - you can't mass delete user accounts, or one account easily for that matter, the spam trap is absolutely terrible, and every place that would be benefited by the use of checkmarks lacks them, so the moderator CP isn't that good. SMF is actually pretty good. They've got the interface down. I still hate skinning it, though. YaBB needs some work on its captcha, too.
elaks 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2007 My favourite would have to be IPB2+. For ages I stuck with the free version (1.3) but all the addons and the beauty of it's design (As you can see on these forums) tempted me to buy the full license. For paid it is by far my favourite. Not the easiest to develope skins for- but has a large range of them (Unlike VB).If you're going down the free route as I did many times, IPB 1.3 or Phpbb will suffice. PhpBB has the easiest skin editing controls I've seen and is the most moddable forum software around. However; the PhpBB controls are slightly hard to use, and lack the features that come with all the others (Beign able to make forums that don't add to the post count, confusing member groups, not particularly attractive layout). Ya, i really like Vbulletin and Invision Power Board but i do not feel like using the money to get them. For about a year I used a cracked version of IPB 2.1 (About two years ago mind) and it worked very well. In the end I decided to pay for it though because it worked so well. I'm not recommending that you get a cracked copy, many things were NULLED and didn't work. Also, messages from the cracking team were plastered all over the admin section. Stick with free forums until you have enough money- but all the professional sites seem to have p2p forum software. dastrophy 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2007 Personally I use phpbb2 as it is really easy to setup, is fast loading and lots of mods to give extra funcionality...but then again I haven't really used any other forums so it is rather hard for me to decide. Phpbb3 is looking good but is obvioulsy still in beta, so loads of the good mods don't work with it yet...I think what you use depends on what host you have: if you only have limited mysql, then you have to be careful: phpbb2 couldn't host for more than 100 regualar people for a couple of months before exceding most hosts 10MB limit.....But if hosting with Xisto, I think anything goes! Codemaster Snake 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 phpbb3 is great. It has new design and new interface with more security.
rvalkass 5 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 I have been using phpBB2 since it was first released, and I have started looking at phpBB3. I like the interface on the phpBB boards - its very clean, clear and easy for people to use, even if it is their first time visiting the forum. Recently, however, I downloaded a copy of SMF and started mucking around with it locally. I still haven't completely got to grips with it, but it seems just as good as phpBB. The one thing I don't like, however, is the default design. That really needs to be cleaned up and improved, because it just leads to most people either downloading or creating their own themes which don't always work too well. Carson 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2007 My favorite is Invision Power Board. From my point of view, it is the most flexible and customizable, and has the most standard features. Its also easy to use. Perhaps I am bias because Its the first forum software I used, so im most used to it. Thats another reason its my favorite, I have so much experience with Invision Power Boards. A bit on the expensive side though.
