brandon10092 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2006 Well first and foremost, I'll say this: I'm an iPod man. I love iPods, I have two of them in fact, and I've done a lot of things with them like hacking them to play doom, and some other cool stuff. 30GB is quite a bit for an mp3 player, let alone the 60GB version. So there's also room for not only your music, photos, and videos, but your other files, because you can use it as sort of like a flash drive. So in short, I can't get enough of my iPods. But recently I heard of Microsoft coming out with their Mp3 player. Even though not many details have been released yet since it won't be sold until November, Microsoft has already said that this new player will beat the iPod because it will have a larger screen than the video iPod, it will give free downloads to all iPod users for songs they've downloaded on iTunes, and the major boost: it will have Wi-Fi capabilities. So wherever you are, you can get online to do whatever, including downloading songs on the go. I'm starting to feel a little weaker about iPods now, since they don't have Wi-Fi, so mabye I might just buy the new mp3 player when it comes out in November. What do you guys think? michaelper22 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 The Zune series sounds interesting, but I would hold off on considering a purchase for now. It's like any evolving tehnology, in it's first stages of release it will be buggy and will cost more than the competition. And the built in WiFi will basically let you share songs, not download (to the best of my knowledge), and with restrictions at that. Let's wait and see what Microsoft has in store, maybe it's offerings later on will have even more.
kawasu 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 i'm curious to see the outcomes of these two competing mp3 players aswell. i know ipods are great, i don't own one myself but hey if i had the money to cash out on one, believe me i would. it's interesting to see what might happen between these two. i don't think the zunes can store as much as ipods but the screen size and wi-fi capabilities certainly make up for this. i mean, anything above 30GB is plenty for portable media playing imo. even if wi-fi can only transfer songs or stream ebtween other units i think thats pretty dam awesome. if u can share them, i dont see why u cant connect to a server and download them directly, it only seems logical. we'll just have to wait abit and see how both units go i guess, not much longer anyway. i actually think the zunes will do well against ipods though. johnsmith 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 Well, first of all, I really don't like it when people are asking what I am going to do with all that space...Thinking only about the present and not the future expansion is bad...When I buy something I want that something to last for as long as it can...Secondly, I really do think that Apple has the experience in mp3 players that microsoft doesn't have. Still, I really don't know what happen, apart from the fact that the market share of apple will shrink...
Sinari 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 Personally, I'm going to wait a year or two so that they can improve on it again. Anyone remember the GB Advance? Everyone wanted one until the better SP came out and then the price dropped. That's what happens with all new technology so you can count on it for this. Because it is newer, waiting to hear some feedback from critics and others using it might be a bonus to influence the decision to ditch the IPod and join Microsoft or to stay loyal to the Ipod and snub the other. Your money, your choice- I will still say to wait at least four months.
the_aggie10 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 well i would get this but its 250 and cant say i got that...does wi-fi cost a monthly charge?
husker 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2006 (edited) Personally, I'm going to wait a year or two so that they can improve on it again.I have to agree with you there. Company's need some experience working on their products and the more they make, the better they will get, such as the Ipods. The Zune will cause a lot of hype and I'm sure will sell fairly well, but the Ipods will still conquer. Microsoft will continue to make better and greater MP3 players, because they just love competition. Microsoft would have to have an amazing, something new and creative idea in order to blow out the Ipods. The Ipods have built up quite a reputation that will be hard to destroy. As for the price, it won't make that much of a difference. Edited October 15, 2006 by husker (see edit history)
Peng 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2006 Well come on the I-pod hlods more. it looks better so yes the I-pod
Sprnknwn 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2006 Definitely it?s better to wait. Microsoft can promise the moon but who know how this will work really. Companies never announce tha bad sides of their products and this one surely will have some. I also think ipods are far too expensive for what they offer, but they have a solid backgrund and you know you can trust them.
40esp 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2006 well... Im going to but the microsoft mp3 player. I own an ipod nano, and i do have to say it lacks many features, which really disappointed me. But wi-fi sounds nothing more than incredible for an mp3 player. makes me wonder how much the microsoft mp3 player will be able to hold music wise.
spy_charly 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2006 well in my opinion the fisrt mp3 of course the apple's iPod will be the most successful product talkin about which will be the most sold.Althought Microsoft's mp3 player does not offer anything spectacular reffereing new formats or even cappabilities it is very possible Microsoft will do an enourmes campaing in order to sell the Microsoft Zun.THe name of the product is not even the most imaginative name i have heard for a mp3 device "zun"!! sounds like Zend from Creative....it just demonstrates that the Microsoft CORPORATION is becoming desperated to enter to the mp3 player bussines with whatever they intend to be in.Another important thing is that this new Microsoft product might include inside the whole packaga something related to the radio tuner, a radio tuner that ((i think)) was first included in Creative's Zend, then added to the apple's iPod and finally Microsoft launch it as a gadget INCLUDED ((because iPod does not include it))The Zun screen is not so bad, it is big and seem to be big enough in order to see videos but not big enough to make the device ugly to the eyes of the people. The microsoft msn music site NEEDS to be redone ((and honestly i think it will be redo shortly)) why?? simply they do want the apple's iTunes monopoly...well guys hope you understand my position... ;-)
-[Nero]- 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 for now, i'd say hold off from buying zune as its still new, but i would buy it rather than get an ipod. apple restricts ipod users a lot, especially users who download songs from their online store. music downloaded from apple's music store can only be played on that ipod [correct me if im wrong] unless you get some software to modify it. apart from that its rather troublesome, you can only add songs using itunes, and you have to do it using a pc.zune on the other hand, it has more features and less restrictions. i've also heard from a friend you can install codecs on it to play more filetypes. it also has bluetooth, if you have a song that a friend wants and he has a zune too, just bluetooth it over to him, doesn't take long, no hassle~. you can also choose your own background to be displayed, making it more personalized.thats just my 2 cents, the ipod is great, but i think zune wins overall due to having more options and less restrictions
joedoe4_ 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2006 th ipod is alot better compared to any mp3 player, especially the ipod video becuase since you can mod it to look diffrent and to play other music formats other than mp3 with the use of rockbox or ipodlinux
Shunkan Idou 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 I prefer the iPod, basicly because it is the easiest MP3 player to use, and it has the best and most accesible user-interface. I'm not a mac person, so my decision isn't biased. I've tried many different MP3 players, and the iPod is the best by far. No other MP3 player is as easy to use as the iPod. lindsaybernsen 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 lets think about the companies themselves for a moment, and all of the technology they have released over the past few years-microsoft: xp, and soon vista. on the whole, everyone seems dissappointed with vista, and xp was never that great. they havent marketed mp3 players 'til now, and it seems like a copy cat move to hope that there is still money left in the music-storage device industry.apple: Has their own line of computers and laptops almost universally acknowledged as superior to all others, and at the very least no less than WORSHIPED by those that own their hardware/software. Has been making iPods for several years now, with a few changes and improvements. They already have the hang of the business.
