M2i Heliodisplay The newest free-space projector

Recommended Posts

During some research I discoverd this cool gadget. The thing is a projector yes but it's a free-space projector the images and vedio is shot out of the base in to the air and forms the display out of thin air. You can control it with your fingers, it can be hooked to tv tuners and pc displays with the standard drivers included when you buy one from the maker.

Here is a flash vedio of it in action. real footage.

And a few pics

Wow simply Wow. That is an amazing piece of technology. I wonder how much one of those things cost because I didn't know they had those kinds of things on the consumer market at all. I've always wanted one of those too. If it can be hooked up to Tv tuners and stuff I wonder If I could play DDR with the thing, that would cool to have arrows floating in the air.

Yep, i agree, this really is an incredible piece of technology, but as always, is at an incredibly expensive price. It really is a shame that these amazing pieces of technology are never at a reasonable price.I'm sure the items would be modified further by other people, if it was cheaper to purchase. Many people don't buy the product due to the high price.

That is a really interesting piece of work. If it wasn't so much money I would maybe buy it but I can stick to paying less than $100 to hook up something to the television. Sure it isn't as mobil or can be place in thin air but that's ok. If it worked for computers that would be cool. It would save a lot of space and make desktops more portable. lol but that is what laptops are for. What would be cool is if they made a cable package or something in which that recieves a signal from the nearest cable company and you could just whip out the screen wherever you are and you can watch television. Of course that would make things even more expensive but it still would be nice.

I saw this earlier on youtube and I was very impressed. Image quality doesn't seem to be very good but the fact that it is projected into mid-air is really impressive. Even if these were the price of normal monitors I don't think I would purchase one because of the blurry images. However, if the quality got better I could really see this being used for movies and games.

Well, the thing includes the wires software and drivers to use it with your pc just to let you know. And i like your idea in the second paragraph that would be very nice to just imagine in 5 years how far technology like this would be?

Oh, yeah, I read about the Helio display about a year or more ago. It's certainly impressive technology, but really it's not very useful at the moment. Aside from scenereos where portability is key, why would someone buy a Helio display when one could get a normal display for much, MUCH cheaper (even when prices go down, I'm sure that Helio will cost more than standard television/monitor designs for decades to come). As I have said dozens of times, efficiency is the key to business success, and this Helio display, in most cases, wouldn't be the most efficient, which means that most people won't buy it, which means that research and development on it will be slowed due to lack of interest (as far as business is concerned, anyway).NASA has long ago invented an ion drive, but they don't use it because it's not economically efficient.

The only thing I see a use for this is really just advertisment imagine seeing one of these in a mall of course your going to look at the picture. The reason I myself think someone would by it would be Just to be cool? One reason I want one So i can be cool like the IKiddys (ipods etc ).

spyk3z there are many more applications that should be plain to see. architecture and design will have a lot to benefit from this kind of technollogy. They can produce their works 3Dimensionally before they actually build. It provides an excellent visual aid

verry cool.verry verry cool.. i am happy that the tecnology of today can build things such as this. this is kind of like the keyboard projection tool that basicly projects a keyboard onto a flat surface and you can use it as an actuall keyboard... tecnology is rather fascinating!!

Yes is does my dads a architect But the flicker of the screen would make the model not a usefull as you think, and most just build the house with tiny wood first to see or view it in the app. they used the model it.

And Albus the lazer keyboard has been around for a while I had one for my old pda befor i got my thinkpad.

But in order to project an entire building, it would either take dozens of Heliodisplays working together, or one large one suspended from above.

It's a neat idea for an application, though.
