How Much Do You Sleep And When?

How Much Do You Sleep And When?

A regular night sleep of eight hours a day is important for proper body functioning. Body and mind relaxes during sleep, and so the most used muscle of our body too. Guess which is it?

Nopes, you are wrong. Its not heart, but eyes. Guys who thought the right answer should pat themselves.

A gland called 'pinial body' (I hope i spelt well, anyways ;) ) secretes two very impostant proteins. named 'per' and 'tim'. 'per' represents for period and 'tim' for time. The concentration of one protein riser and other falls within the pinial body cells in a harmonic fashion. i.e. the exact time when the concentration of both will be equal is 12 hours. This is the basis of body clock. Our body clock decides when should we fall asleep and when to wakeup. It is also harmonized with sunrise and sunset in healthy individuals. When we fall asleep, body hormones levels become different than the active body.

Sometimes, in the condition of stress or related, this clock gets disturbed, giving the condition of insomnia. Sometimes we wakeup late night to finish some assignments of during exams. Few days or weeks doesn't affect much. But a regular habit of getting late to bed permanently alters 'per-tim cycle'. So we cant sleep till late night even if we want to. This totally disturbs hormone balance and give rise to a situation of depression, anxiety and various misconcequences. We no longer concentrate on work, and socially we start isolating ourself. This may be a cause of social distraction, break-ups in relations and in short, a devastating situation.

I wanted to attach a pole to this post to know, what is your sleeping habits? To, just lets see what percentage of bloggers and forum posters have regular and healthy sleeping habits. Somehow I messed with it and posted the topic without the poll. Anyways, this may be a consequence of my staying awake till late night.

Now do post your replies against the post. Please be honest in poll, if you think of getting a good and valuable survey results (which I 'll compile from all posts: no other options :P).

I go to bed sometime between 9.30 and 10.30/11.00pm on week nights and I wake up at 7am but on Saturdays I wake up at 9, on Sundays I sleep in and Fri/Sat night I got to bed whenever I feel like it.

I usually go to sleep at around 10 or 10:30 p.m and wake up at 6:00 a.m. (That totals to an amount of 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep every night). On the weekends, I tend to go to sleep later and wake up later as well.

I usually go to bed before mid-night and wake up between 6:00am to 7:00 am almost everyday. It means I sleep for about 6 to 7 hours everyday. However, I'm trying to sleep earlier than these timings and am trying to get up earlier as well. It is very fresh to wake up early and exercise. If you have often woke up early you would probably know the freshness of the morning. Also, if one doesn't sleep enough then it can effect one's mood the whole day.

I go to bed at 9:30 usually and read for an hour but it takes me about 1/2 an hour to fall asleep (I have M.E. which causes insomnia and unrefreshing sleep) and wake up at either 7:30 or 8am but get woken up several times during the night by my son (15 months old) so maybe 8 hours. Not that it partucularly matters to me - I can sleep 12, 16 hours and still wale up feeling like I haven't slept at all.

Although, I would give a warning to you all - M.E. (aka Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) is tied into the immune system and regulatory parts of the brain. It most often hits overachievers i.e. workaholics who don't get enough sleep and can tell you now that if you are not getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night you could well be fast tracking yourself to this disease or at the very least Chronic Fatigue (aka burnout). Take it from me, get 9 hours (what sleep specialists recommend) because you do not want this illness!

sleeping is vastly over rated....during the week day i am forced to go to bed before 11:00 PM, but on the weekends i will stay up until 5 in the morning and wake at 7 or 8, and i wil feel like i slept for hours and hours and hours...i will have soo much eneergy i feel i could run the mile...for some reason i feel as if sleeping has no effect on me...i have pulled 4 all nighters in a row, as in i didn't sleep for four days and four nights....and i still slept like normal the followwing days/weeks.....and yet i wasn't tired at all during those four days..and it think it was BuffaloHELP who agree'd with me in the shoutbox the other day that sleeping was vastly over rated! and it is! lol...but this was a good bit of information i read....

This topic was discused recently (it might still be somewhere alive) but anyway....I tend to sleep after mignight. I know it not good for me, since I can't wake up in the morning (until noon to be exact). I use techique of relaxation and self hypnosis to fall asleep since a geet deeper into "trance" that way and rest more. BUT the best way to avoid feeling tired is sports. It makes you go to bed early and you rest well, so you get ready for the next day. Aclohol can make you awake too. If consumed during the night (or before) the night might last too long for you  The best time to go to sleep (for those of you who can make themselves to) is before midnight, right after dinner. You should wake up when Sun arises!p.s. the only time I see Sun arise is when I dont sleep at all :P

I can't get to sleep before 12-1am, no matter what I try (short of sleeping pills). During the week thats the usual time I hit the hay, but on Friday/Saturday I rarely sleep before 3-4am.

I prepared this table based on everyone's sleeping pattern. I shall be updating it with comments.

(PS) My advise should not be taken much seriously, as I am not a certified medical practiotioner. However, its based on the knowledge of sleep disturbances, body clock and symptoms and cause of depression.

Here is the table of users with comments

serenity: OK, timing not mentioned

inyourarms: OK

ameribass: OK

Dragonfly: OK

Thorned Rose: sleeping 12-16h can be dangerous

Albus Dumbledore: dangerous for future

ciroxyz: It should be natural, hypnosis & other means again may disturb cycle if you stop it.

I generally get to sleep around 10/11pm and then wake up again at about 6am! I have too much homework and coursework to do. THat does give me 7-8 hours of sleep a night though.

You think you are not having any health problems now. But as and when you get older, problems will start arising. Your body clock seems to have shifted 4-5 hours. And although you did not mention, but you may be getting late in the morning. You must be feeling lousy. Uninterested in normal worls, girls etc. There starts the problems. You need to rectify your habits soon.

rvalkass has good habits of sleeping early.

I can bet he behaves like normal persons during daytime.
I want to get feedbacks from the persons I commented on (wheter my predictios about their lifestyle are right or not).
