aerin 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Simply put, this place rocks. But i'm sure most of us have been hosted by places that haven't. So, here's your opportunity to vent all you want about how utterly useless and crappy they were/still are. Here's the lists of former hosting companies on my eternal blacklist:Tripod: utterly useless, even for a newb. Too many ads, too slowDistanthost.com: my former favorite webhost...until they started with this crap about mandatory ad-clikcing. And then collapsed into a fiery hole of embezzlement and bankruptcy (no kidding there, either), leaving me with no good host for my site...for 6 mo.!Shyper.com: I was just there last week. I had them hosting me for a few weeks...then they delete my account without any explanation, and leave me cold. I didn't violate any of the TOS, bend or break any rules, or use up too much space/bandwidth. they just deleted me. So, they must die.
Hamtaro 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 I hate GeoCities, but that's because they apparantly don't offer much bandwith. When I hosted there, my site was constantly down. And I'd have to wait for about an hour for it to come back up, then 30 minutes to 2 hours later, it was down again. I didn't keep my site there for too long, since it WAS at one time getting a lot of visitors.

SuburbanalCuts 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2004 Did anyone ever try Aprilhost? Worst crap ever. They're whole thing (along with my site) shut down for like 5 months then they suddenly popped back up. I emailed them repeatedly and they never replied, even after their site came back up. whitefox 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 I don't like Tripod, Geocities and Freewebs as my early experiences started there. I haven't used anything else yet, so that's the only ones I can judge.f
puppyforest 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2004 I hate freewebs and tripod as well. I tried many different hosts and they all suck! I hate ads on sites, pop-ups, and pop-unders, and slow servers. Glad to finally have a host that doesn't suck!

mzwebfreak 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 Man, I've been doing web design off and on for about nine years now, and think I've run the entire gamut when it comes to free servers, though I don't think I'd ever be able to remember ALL of them, but here's a list of a few I'd flame: Â Angelfire- constant popups, but was good for a newbie like me, even though my first layouts were horrid. Web1000- found out a couple months into my hosting that only the US and Canada could view sites on their servers, and I have a lot of international traffic, so that wouldn't have worked too well for long. CoolFreePages- Was all well and good- had php capabilities and FTP and everything, but apparently they send in header and footer text for popups on any and all pages, and that would screw with the syntax of the php so that it wouldn't display anything like it was supposed to. HowIGotRich- This was my friend's server and since I already had another more, well mature, site with him, he said that once it was up and running, he'd host my personal domain. Well, he eventually had an out and out fight with my video editor boyfriend about basically just helping other people (it's long and involved, and would include topics not permitted on this forum) and I got a form letter from his coworker (our former best friend) that I needed to move nevernormal, since it would not be moved to the new server and to notify him when I had it moved. Â I'm on another friend's server right now, but I have little to no control panel access, and my php files aren't showing up properly, and it's all really very frustrating, but I'll be patient to wait to have the proper number of correctly lengthy posts. Stars13 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 I hate Tripod and Angelfire the most, they put ads on your site like a stampede of elephants. I tried using Angelfire once and a million pop-ups attacked me. Tripod tried to install a bunch of worthless programs into my computer and my dad got mad at me, grrr....Freewebs is okay, they limit too much but I like to make multiple accounts there since I need room for more files they haven't had a clue. My friend told me that Freewebs was hacked once...and that kinda makes me feel nervous about them...And Bravenet, they're terrible, they only give you...erm...1.5 GB, I think your site will only last for about let's see...3 days with that much bandwidth. I was just wondering around my friend's website whose host is Bravenet, I got through 8 pages and poof, the bandwidth is gone. I think Trap 17 will be a great host ^^

Stars13 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 No, it's really 1.5 GB of bandwidth for free users. If you go to bravenet.com you'll see that they have it shown under the Free Hosting Package. ^^() of course 8 pages won't eat up the bandwidth, other people must've been running around the site a lot. I re-visited some of the pages for no apparent reason too, so that must be it...

It was the closest one to perfect. Now if only I we can get the perfect web host. Unlimited bandwidth, space, mySql servers, all features of paid hosting (and more), total control, dedicated servers, free domain names, unlimited pop3/imap emails, and most importantly for free.... *drools* That would be the BEST it would close down all other hosting buisinesses. Well too bad that dream will never come true...
Stars13 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2005 *nod nod* That would be totally awesome if there's a host out there that actually provides all that stuff for free...*sigh* only if that is true, every website in the world would probably want their site hosted by that host, and that host would never make any money since they provide free services
