I was sure VISTA is another ridiculos version of windows... If you remember well, the bsod could be seen at win98's launch too... and win98 was totally messed up!

Well, now in 2006, we are at Beta2, which has lots of nice features, half of which aren't required for doing any basic task like web browsing or word processing. I do like the Aero theme, it looks nicer than even the Royale theme leaked from XP Media Center Edition, and Vista's security features look nice too.

lol besides doesn't windows vista need a 2+ghz processor and a gig of ram, when microsoft do release official versions it wont get far since the requirements are too much. Yeah it has great features but like all good/great things must come at a price!

Windows XP was noted for having rather high system requirements, but that picked up pretty well. Most high end computers bought in the last year or two, should be good enough to run Vista, and if your pc can't support the aero graphics interface, it'll probably run fine on the other ones, e.g Aero light, Luna, and *gasp* Windows Classic.

I think that Windows Vista is going to be quite good when ti comes out, obviously as long as you've got all of the recources to run it though lol

well at the rate computers are increasing in power and decreasing in price vista will be no problem, i've seen 2ghz+, 180gig hdds, 1gb ram, 256mb ram on graphics, duel core for less than ?500.

The two problems I think Microsoft will have, in terms of Vista's sales when it is first released is that the previous gaps of Windows had a very short gap between hte next release. There's been a huge gap between the release of XP and Vista, so during that period, most people have gone up to XP and are quite happy with it. They'll be thinking, "why should I upgrade when the OS I have now does everything I need?"

 

The other problem, is that there are few programs which are really memory/cpu intensive. Not many pieces of software (im specifically excluding pc games here btw) fully take advantage of your "brand new Dell XPS" I reckon that with a 1.5ghz 512mb ram pc, you could run just about every program the standard home user needs to run, without any problems, so the home user might be thinking "Why upgrade to Vista or buy a new pc when my current one does everything I need?"

 

Vista will have a slow takeup but most computers will be probably running it by 2009. Fortunately, Vienna isn't scheduled for release untill 2011, giving Vista plenty of time to gain popularity.

Yea man, I test drove Windows Vista Beta myself and I have about the same thing to say About the OS. Right now, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and guess what man? The OS is dealing with my hardwares. It aint like I have a weak computer though (Intel ® Pentium 4 630 HT 3.40GHz w/2MB OnDie Cache, 1GB DDR2 5300, 400GB HDD space, nVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE w/256MB video memory), but still that aint enough for the OS.I know that I never had any problems with Win XP performance wise but Windows Vista Ultimate is something else altogether. Ok, I would say the Microsoft really tried where the Windows Aero Graphics effect was concerned but they oughta have thought about the kinda machines that would run the OS.I read a review the other day which stated that up to 50% of US business machines cant run Windows Vista. Well, if you aint got a high (rugged) performance computer and graphics card, dont think about Win Vista.

Strange about that. I installed ultimate, with p4 2.4ghz 512ram and gforce 6600gs (256ram) and it works nice. even faster then xp..

Not that I'm not trusting you, but Windows Vista is currently only available to MSDN developers. I would think a MSDN developer would have better spelling skills and wouldn't exactly have free hosting here.

I dislike it when people bash windows, but don't provide any backup to there statement. It seems like blind thrashing to me. If you've tryed the final release it's awsome. It's not as "buggy" as people say it is. But seeing as how beta is done and over with, and the final is out, I'm closing this thread. Please feel free to make a new topic in regards to the final release.My computer is 8 years old. I've had a grand total of less then 10 viruses. The most common cause of viruses is porn, so unless you plan on looking up porn 24/7 you really don't have much to worry about. It all depends on what you do. And if you need to look at it, bad enough, don't bash windows, just get a Mac.
