Fastest Antivirus & Firewall Software

Recommended Posts

Actually AVG had the smallest foot print then any other anitvirus software available in the matket. Its takes very small amount of memory and cpu time slice.
And for the firewall try the free version of Zone Alarm (its better than the paid version)

SO You have the fastest suite of antivirus + firewall for complete protection and that too free of cost

Yep  I use AVG - free edition, and Zone Alarm - free version (I agree the zone alarm is better than the paid version) - but not sure if AVG is better as paid or free. I do know that I have never had a problem with my computer, and I game a lot. It's not the fastest computer, but it boots quick, and I love how easy to setup both AVG and ZoneAlarm is. You can't go wrong - try it - it costs you nothing to save so much time. Norton's and McAfee both messed with some of my other programs and I had lockups. GL man!

Thanks alot people. I've swapped to AVG Antivirus and it loads pretty well. Very fast now in booting time and I can still do my work while making a full system scan. One disadvantage is that AVG does not do auto-detect of virus when a new file is created. Hence every file you download, AVG doesn't scan for you. You will have to do it yourselfI've got Outpost Free firewall as well. It worked good but sometimes crashes for no reasons. It's due to the bad programming code, simply nothing else.

If you are looking for a great firewall/ anti-virus program you should deffeniately check out Zone-Alarm. I am running the security suite endition and I have it payed for and it works like a dream for me. If you are going for the free route though like most people are, you should look into AVG like said, and I know that zone-Alarm has a free firewall also. I also think that Sygate personal Firewall is also free. But you will have to look into that for yourself.

Thanks. I agree that using the msconfig will be able to select and unselect the programs to automatically run upon boot up of computer. But what is the point of installing an antivirus program if you disable it on startup? With it disabled, it will not do a live or real time scan, hence defeating the purpose of being an antivirus.

Found this thread by searching for 'Fastest Antivirus'!I would like to add to the above about Norton:-I?ve had a laptop for just over 18-months, (online daily) with no protection other than standard Windows XP.I decided it was about time I got some, and a few weeks back I bought Norton System Works 2006 online after their website claimed it would ?Increase the performance of my PC?Well first time I did a virus scan it found nothing ? that?s the good news! But as for improving performance ? that?s a complete joke.Instead of taking 60 seconds to boot up, it was more like 5-minutes.All programs took much longer to load; e.g. Word took up to a minute to start up while Norton did a totally unnecessary virus scan, and the same thing every time I opened a document.System Works is the most garbage piece of software I have ever seen, and within a week I had uninstalled it.To be fair, when I complained to Symantec they did refund my money with no fuss at all.(No compensation for my wasted hours installing & uninstalling though!)So now I?m going to try some of the above suggestions. Nothing can be worse than Norton!

i was using avg some time ago. it proved very worthy and ran smoothly in the background of windows. i later switched to avant because my friend remmended it to me.. i honestly dont see much dfference between the two of them avast r avant, foret the name(not on my home cpu atm haha) has a nicer gui and overall feel to it but it takes far longer to do system scans. avg was quick and easy; i'd prob much rather it but i cant be bothered un-installing and re-installing apps with the smae general purpose. ad-aware + avg is awes. i dont think i've had any spy/ad ware or viruses in a few good months. funny though, i stick with the basic windows firewall... i ike it the most >_> dont ask me why though.. i dontthink it even does anything haha.

The fastest antivirus is Ourself. I didnt use antivirus. to prevent getting virus/worm/trojan ++ is : don't enter porn websites. in my opinion, the smallest and fastest antivirus software is avg. so, we have a package now. Prevent porn websites(for firewall) + avg (backup) if we accident sting by computer virus.-turubasa

...Kaspersky!

Fastest Antivirus & Firewall Software

Kaspersky is the best suite I have ever used. Fastest and most reliable considering the fact that most AV engines run on the kaspersky engine. Small file and boots windows very quickly. The only prob being you just cant get urself an illegal copy anymore haha!
