"safe" Peer To Peer? Spyware and adware free?

Recommended Posts

Is there such an animal as a spyware and adware free Peer to Peer network. I've been using K-lite 2.7 and I have been having problems locating the files I want. I used to use Ares before I reformatted but I got tons of spyware from it, but there was much more files found during searches.

I would suggest using Shareaza out of the two snlildude87 mentioned, but I would suggest you also you WinMX. I use both because what one can't find, the other can most of the time. I started out with WinMX, but I like Shareaza better now, because the downloading is faster. The searching seems to be faster with WinMX, but lately I find a file with, let's say, 100 sources, and it will sit there claiming to be "connecting", but it never does. I've tried this with 40 downloads in a row and it did the same thing. I made sure I was connected and everything. Well, I would suggest Shareaza strongly.

I would have to say that Limewire has been very safe for me. I have never goten one wyrm or virus or even a file that wasn't what I was looking for from them.

I recommend emule. They allow you to search for archives (i.e. RAR and ZIP files), which is helpful when trying to download full albums or other kinds of files that normally come in collections.

It's almost impossible to find P2P application that is secure, since you will always face another person in another edge of the world that they might be a hacker, since you're sharing you're file, it is not impossible for they who are expert to gain information about your ip address and any other information... even worse, i have heard that someone can have remote access to others computer just because he is using iMesh..

If you stick to open source apps, you should be faily safe from spy- and adware. If they put spyware (or adware) in an open source app, people would notice, because people read the code. So, stay away from Kazaa and exeem and anything else close-sourced. That should get you a good bit on the way.But then you can of course be vulnerable to p2p worms and so on. Oh it never ends! :o

I would recommend Ares P2P, it's really fast (at least on my pc) and contains no spyware nor adware and even has a funny chatserver :o
Only bug I know is that when I download on there and I wanna listen to it it lags till the dl-es are finished (again on my pc :D )
Peace

I suffered the same fate with Morpheus last fall. I uninstalled it, but some of the adware is still lingering in the PC. I may try Shareaza the next time I install P2P software on my computer.

Shareaza, Limewire and eXeem are probably are probably the best one you could find around these days... mabey in the future there will be a better one with no spyware at all. Kazaa seems to be pretty good if you could get rid of all the spyware but for the best speeds you should get Limewire Pro. I always get 50kBps- 500kBps 0_o

Bittorent is pretty much OK. That's what I use. I used Shareaza too... (as a bittorrent client) but I stuck with TorrentStorm (Now discontinued). I'm currently using K-lite too. I find what I want, but Bittorrent has more of what I want. So you should use it. It's pretty much safe.
