  1. Yay!That's great news, I almost have thirty hosting credits, so I should hopefully be able to get my regular package soon! Does it take the administration team roughly the same amount of time to process upgrade requests as it does new hosting account requests? Is the rough time still approximately a day during the week and a bit longer at the weekend or has this changed due to the recent troubles Xisto has had to cope with? Thanks for your time :lol:Infamous Flame.
  2. This is a freeware text editor. It can be used to write different programs in different programming languages, including HTML. It is downloadable from thissite and here you can also donate to the write of Context if you wish. The author also wishes that you give suggestions and feedback.
  3. A friend was telling me about that earlier today, do you want me to ask him for his details? I would be happy to do so if you would like me to.

    Hello

Yeah, welcome WeaponX, I have pretty bad loading times, MSE, is there no way to fix this? Do you intend to get the free hosting offer WeaponX? If so, what are you going to make a site about, or are you not planning to make a site? Anyways, I really hope you enjoy your stay here at the Xisto forums. If you need any help, please post in the appropriate forum or you can get in contact with an Administrator (Like MSE) or even me (although I have no particular power as an ordinary member, I may be able to offer some advice, plus, I'm nice, lol! ).
  5. I did once have a domain with them, and it was OK, I don't know if it still exists though. There is maybe just a temporary problem, try giving it some time and trying again, maybe after a week or something.
  6. Yeah, you're certainly that! Lol, so that's why SMF is weirdly better, even for no apparent reason? Cool, I thought it was just your propaganda, drilling into me Trek!
  7. Okay, well thanks Trek, I hope someone moves it and I get any extra credits I deserve.
  8. I downloaded this Beta fairly recently and I also downloaded Spybot: Search and Destroy the same day. I never knew how much spyware and adware was on my machine! A great feature of Spybot: S&D is that it asks you whether to allow or deny a major registry change, such as allowing a program to boot at startup, which can be used to avoid allowing spyware or adware to start without your permission or you doing anything to activate it. Both of these programs are currenty FREE, which makes them even sweeter!
  9. Here is the link to an explanation of why SMF (Simple Machines Forum) will always be free: Link
  10. Lol, why would you want to login as invisible ? I think MSN Messenger is the best Instant Messaging program, it's just so, me! Lol! Nah, I just think it's pretty cool, the new MSNM 7 "look" is nice, and it has lots of cool features: smilies, nudges, backgrounds, etc.Is it true that an MSN object injection can fiddle with your sound card? It's just that someone said they would do that to me if I didn't stop nudging them, lol!
  11. Thanks, oh it doesn't really matter. But could I ask how many credits I should have gotten for the tutorial on starting out at Astaohst? It is in the open to non-members help forum.
  12. Hi, This is a tutorial designed to help people get free hosting from Xisto and upload whatever files they wish to have on the web. This tutorial will assume that you are just starting out at Xisto and have less than 10 hosting credits. It will also assume that you want to sign up for the Starter Package to create a website that is publicly viewable: Step 1 - Getting Hosting: The first thing you need to do to get started on the web is get hosting. Hosting allows you to upload files to a web server (computer designed to show files on the internet) and some other things too. Xisto offer free webhosting to members of their forum that actively contribute to the forum. To get the Starter Hosting Package, you must get 10 Hosting Credits. (The number of credits can be seen on the main page of the board HeRe.) DO NOT SPAM TO GET CREDITS, YOU MAY BE BANNED FROM THE FORUM AND ANY CHANCE OF GETTING HOSTING MAY BE LOST! So, make meaningful posts in the forums, and when you get to 10 Hosting Credits, go here. Fill in this form and click continue at the bottom of the page. Copy the code from this new page (In Windows, highlight it and press Control+C). Make a new thread here. Paste the code into the body of the post (In Windows, highlight it and press Control+C). Post it (Alt+S in Windows). Now wait for an Administrator to approve your hosting. If your hosting is approved (check your email, including your junk/spam mail folder to find out) click on this link. Now click on "1. Create a Hosting Account." Fill in the form, making sure you follow all the instructions exactly. Click on Submit at the bottom of the page to proceed. FROM THIS POINT ON, DO NOT RELOAD, STOP, PRESS BACK OR CLOSE THIS BROWSER WINDOW/TAB!!! The only exception to this is if an error message appears and it suggests that the process of creating your account has halted. If this happens, press back on your browser and make sure you have filled in the form correctly. Try submitting it again and if you continue to have problems, post HeRe. Once your account has been created (this may take a long time), save a copy of the information being displayed on this page onto your computer (Control+A, Control+C, Open a blank text document and press Control+V then save the document to somewhere you will be able to find it if you need to. However, be very wary of letting anyone else see this data if it contains any passwords.) Congratulations, you now have a webhosting account! Step 3 - Change cPanel password: Go to the following web address: yoursite.astahost.com or yoursite.com - where yoursite is your subdomain or yoursite.com is your domain (more advanced and usually paid for). If you have not paid for anything, chances are you will have a subdomain and should go to: yoursite.astahost.com Read the information on this page. You may want to note it for future reference. Now you need to login to cPanel and change your password, like it says on the page you have just read. To do this: go to yoursite.astahost.com/cpanel. Enter the username and password you provided on the account sign-up form (the one where you chose your site's address). Click on Login. Once you are logged into cPanel, click on the Change Password icon under Site Management: Now read the information and fill out the form. Click Change your password now! Step 4 - Upload Your Files (Yay!): You are now ready to upload your files. First of all go to File Manager under Site Management. In File Manager, navigation is performed by clicking on the folder icon next to where you want to go to. To upload a file, you must be in the place you want to upload to. If you are going to upload a standard website to yoursite.com, then navigate to public_html. Once here, click on Upload Files. For every file you want to upload, click Browse, and locate the file on your computer. Double-click the file. Remember to select any images you need. When you have selected all the files you want to upload, or have run out of Browse buttons, click Upload. Your files should upload. If you need to upload more files, simply repeat the process. Now you can view your site! The home/start page of your site must be called index.php You can rename a file by clicking on it's name and selecting Rename file from the right hand side menu. Just go to yousite.com and as long as you have named your homepage correctly (index.something), you should see your site. If you don't try clicking reload or refresh (often F5 in Windows browsers). CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have just uploaded your website!
  13. Hi, I need the help of staff to solve this problem: I posted a tutorial about installing an SMF on Xisto webspace. I got hosting credits for it (I assume they were for that because it was a lot of credits.) but then they were taken away again and the person taking the credits away did not inform me why. The tutorial is still posted here. Please could someone try to sort this out for me? Thankyou!
  14. Notice from m^e: Don't approve this yet - I've pm-ed him to make the writeup more elaborate and then we can pin it in the hosting request forum as another starup guideline. Hi, This is a tutorial for requesting Free Professional Webhosting from Xisto and uploading files to your webspace, enjoy! Post contructively in the forums, and when you get to 10 Hosting Credits (number of credits is displayed on the main board index here), then go to the Hosting Requests Forum and find the link to the registration form. Go to the link and fill out the form. Copy and paste the result of the form into a new post into the Hosting Requests forum. Post it and then wait for an administrator to approve or deny it. You will be notified by email at the address you provided whilst registering for this forum. To upload files: Once your hosting has been approved and set up, go to yoursite.astahost.com/cpanel or yousite.com/cpanel an login. Go to File Manager under Site Management. If you want the file(s) to be viewable by the public, make sure you upload to the public_html folder. Navigate to where you want to upload your files by clicking the folder icon of the place where you want to upload to. Click Upload files. Click Browse, then navigate to where the file is stored on your computer (you can use the different Browse buttons to specify a number of different files). Double-click it and then click Upload. Your file should now upload. If not, please feel free to post in the Hosted Member area to ask for help! I hope you find this tutorial useful.
  15. Houdini, why not fill that post out a bit and ask a moderator or admin to move it into tutorials for you?
  16. I have Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory and thought the online versus mode looks good, but I have it on PS2 and I don't have online play. I think it would be good for your site to have stuff on Splinter Cell but be careful of making it too specific to one thing.
  17. I don't know if what you want to do is within Xisto rules, so you might want to check with an admin or the Terms Of Service. But this is how you do it:Login to cPanel.Go to FTP Manager (under Site Management).Click Add FTP Account.Fill in the form (a bit automatically updates as you enter a login name, this restricts the new account to only the auto-updated directory).Click Create.Hope this helps!
  18. This guide will show you how to install an SMF forum in the event that you do not have Fantastico or cannot, for some reason, install SMF from it. Step 1: The first step is to make sure you have access to a MySQL database and enough rights for it (I don't know exactly what you need but if you have full access rights you will obviously be okay.) To create a MySQL database on your host through cPanel (comes with all Xisto accounts) login to cPanel by going to yoursite.com/cpanel or yoursite.astahost.com/cpanel and entering your username and password. Under site management, click on the MySQL Databases icon. In the new window (or tab) fill in a name for your database (maybe the name of your forum). Note any information about the name of your database (in Xisto cPanel there is a notice telling you that your username followed by an underscore is added to the front of your database' name). Logout of cPanel. Step 2: Download SMF from simplemachines.org. Then upload the files to your webspace. This can be done through an FTP client or through cPanel's File Manager (I would recommend cPanel because it is easier to extract the file and saves you uploading the extracted version if you do not know how to extract it with an FTP client.) To do it through cPanel, login and open File Manager under Site Management. Navigate to the parent directory of the place you want your forum to appear (often public_html) and create a folder with whatever name you want (this will contain the forum and people viewing the forum will need to navigate to this folder). Navigate into this new folder. Then upload the SMF install zipped file. Next, extract the contents by clicking on the install file's name and clicking on extract contents on the right hand side of the File Manager window. Step 3: Navigate to the following address in your browser: blahblahblah.com/forum where blahblahblah.com is the address of your main website and forum is the name of the folder you created earlier. However: if you did not create the folder in public_html, you will have to work out where to navigate to yourself. An installation page should be on-screen. Fill in all the details, and proceed through the pages, remembering that your MySQL database name may have your username followed by an understroke or some other prefix before the bit of the name that you specified. You have now installed SMF. Congratulations! You can now access your forum by navigating to the folder where you extracted all of the files. Don't forget to check that the file install.php has been deleted, as it is a major security risk to leave it how and where it was. Happy foruming!
  19. Nice graphic, I'm gonna be using it for various things, is that OK?
  20. That's certainly a beast of a computer. I wonder how much hard work and money was spent on doing all of those modifications?!?
  21. I think 7 is much better, it has a much better-looking interface and it is a new version, which is always supposed to be better, lol!
  22. Me too lol, I wouldn't be going diving to see them, I'd be driving a boat in the opposite direction as fast as possible! It'd be ptty cool to see one though!
  23. I was just curious about how easy it would be to make your own search engines , I don't think I have time to do it now though. It's probably all too technical for me. I don't know so much about programming, so I might not be able to do it. I know you said it isn't so much about programming, but it would still probably be too much of an extra workload for me, I've got a lot going on with my site and with my forum. Thanks for givng me such good info guys.
  24. Well, I hate to say it, but I don't actually know if there is a secret to my net name. I just got it from someone eles, sorta. I was joining the MSN gaming zone and the name I chose wasn't usable, and I just chose infamousflame2, but then for the rest of the net I just use infamousflame. And that's the big amazing story, lol!
  25. I dunno about any new titles, but I really liked the more modern Command and Conquer games. I have Generals and it's quite good, lots of playability with Skirmish and the General vs. General battles. Which is your favourite side? Mine's is probably America (that question is assuming you have played it and played as the different sides).
