sorry for the double posting. this is not some kind of spam, but i think it is better to be on new topic because others might also want to have the same question.ok.this is the situation;1. i've logged into cpanel and did some changes.2. then, i go to my site to view the changes WITHOUT logging out.3. then, the browser showed error msg(error dns/site down).4. the problem is solved only if i came back to my cpanel, and do a LOGOUT.is that a normal issue?thanks

there are programs used to change batch files into real executable files (exe). but nowadays, they didnt used frequently.anyway, now, batch files are used for complex command lines that cannot be completed using any GUI(graphical user interface).an excellence example is linux.

First i heard; Then you said; huh? anyway, the choice of os is up to you. the question is do you want to make it 24hrs? if no, then maybe you can stick to the windows family, especially my recomendation is Win2k. if yes, then you might consider using linux boxes. it's more stable and FREE!. there, you can use samba file sharing, just like windows file sharing system. some more considerations; getting your self a 200gb drive? make sure you are choosing the correct hd type. most of old mboard has only ata support, meanwhile im guessing most nowadays big @ss hd uses sata connection. same goes to ram. if your mb uses RDRAM, most probably it dont have DDRAM support, ok.

hey kevlar, i want to advise you to post the pc's specs here, so that somebody could give opinions about it. also, just to be clear, are you sharing to your home network only or to the whole world also? what apps? more than FTP/file sharing? hahahahahahahaha

OpaQue and all admins: regarding the fact we are hosted in a shared server, we all should agree never to allow any activities that could interrupt this service. so, here some suggestion that i want to foward to admins. they are for the greatest good. i've been viewing Xisto's phpinfo(http://forums.xisto.com/), and these are something that you might want to look at; http/ftp file size: PLEEEEASE limit the file size download/upload. this includes php.ini settings (upload_max_filesize), and probably httpd.conf. i think 20MB is pretty big enough, and of course, 100MB should be avoided. if you need to enable upload of 100MB files in certain area, then use a separate setting that can be embeded within <Directory> tag inside the httpd.conf. it is also important to do the same thing to the FTP setting, but i cant detail on that because dono what FTP apps you are using. *uploading/downloading monsterous files are the main reason of system downs. when this happens, everyone will suffer! mysql.connect_timeout (in php.ini) timeout should be set to a minimum time. i m suggesting 20Sec, not 60Sec. mysql.max_links (in php.ini): this is used to minimize the mysql connection per process. to avoid problems caused by looping scripts, you should set it to some definate value, say 100. some security/performance suggestions: register_globals=ON (in php.ini) this should be turned off as suggested by php manual; Example misuse with register_globals = on <?php// define $authorized = true only if user is authenticatedif (authenticated_user()) { $authorized = true;}// Because we didn't first initialize $authorized as false, this might be// defined through register_globals, like from GET auth.php?authorized=1// So, anyone can be seen as authenticated!if ($authorized) { include "/highly/sensitive/data.php";}?> When register_globals = on, our logic above may be compromised. When off, $authorized can't be set via request so it'll be fine, although it really is generally a good programming practice to initialize variables first. For example, in our example above we might have first done $authorized = false. Doing this first means our above code would work with register_globals on or off as users by default would be unauthorized. register_argc_argv=ON (in php.ini) this directive should be turn off for the sake of server performance, as stated in php.ini-distrib file. for me, i think nobody are using that feature in php. Avoiding many simulteneous downloads go to https://modules.apache.org/. there are some apache modules that could help to avoid this kind of problem. there are some suggestions that i could advice you and all the admins. if there are anymore errors that you want to share, please P.M me, ok.

i would sugget you to use linux. linux is more stable, low resource consumption and absolutely free. then you must uderstand also that file sharing system that we usually use on the internet is not the same as windows file sharing.from internet, we use FTP system/server.to set up an FTP server, you'll probably need a static ip that can be mapped into domain names such as those dot.coms. but, if you are having dynamic ip, then you'll have to use those dynamic DNS services such as http://www.noip.com/.

dear suki. welcome to Xisto in order to get a hosting account, you need to be active in this forum first. make atleast 10 QUALITY post here. post anything. make new topic or reply others topic. but make sure it is more then 3 lines and are done at the "computer & Tech Forum". then, you can request a hosting package here; http://forums.xisto.com/topic/79574-topic/?findpost=1064272686 https://6'>https://6 https://6'>https://6'>http://forums.xisto.com/topic/79574-topic/?findpost=1064272686 https://6'>https://6 for god's sake, read the FAQ first! -
There is no such thing as free domain. but what you can get is free subdomain, such as llyod.astahost.com. Domain is an upper authority such as Xisto.com, which usually you have to pay for them.At Xisto.com, all hosted members are given access to MySQL database. to get a starter package, you must have at least 10 QUALITY posts at the "Advanced Free Professional Hosting" topic, then you can request a subdomain account like llyod.astahost.com
-
also, your posting will only be counted if you post at the "Computers & Tech" section. others are not counted!

i dont know if this might be useful to ppl here, but this is a very good knowledge for serious siteadmins. while i was digging for mysql backup techniques, i've found that mysql is able to do realtime replication. the idea is that there are master server and slave server. both are having the same version of mysql installed. the data flows; Master >copy> Slave ( in realtime!) you'll never have to manually copy the database file of wasting your time to manually use the mysqldump command. here are the links; http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ hope it can be usefull.
