  1. If you think you will never use a 20GB harddrive -- that is an understatement. When I first originally bought a 20GB iPod, I thought I made a big mistake. I didn't. I was debating between an Ipod Mini and the iPod G4. There is no more contest henceforth. When you see the glory of a color screen, your photos will start to load up your memory. It is like replacing your photo album, onto your iPod. Photos are very easy to take, and it accumulates very fast. For every event, I take 512MB worth of pictures. Full grained quality -- picture perfecto.Given that I only keep the best, which is half of 512, I have a total-combined album of over 2GB alone of photos.Of Music I have 7GBs of songs. When you have two albums of Marilyn Manson (17 songs each), Ataris (16 songs each), and The whole Collection of Greenday, etc. You will need more and more space.I have other documents such as word documents, etc. These only take a mere 512mb.That gives me about another 10GBs to spend to be generous.I store short-homemade-videos on the remainder. Given that MiniDVs take a mere 13GB per hour, I can store all so much.
  2. Originally, I have thought a USB Pen drive was useless. Now, I beg to differ. It is very versatille. You can interchange data between two operating systems (MAC + PC), and even give your friends some of your files. It is a simple way to keep the information that you need, and that matters with you at all times. It is very handy.Imagine this:1) Carrying photos your mom wants to see on a "stick"2) Carrying Homework for school on a "disk"3) Transfering data, music from one computer to another via a "disk"It has many other usage, but that can be a whole different topic.Steer Clear.
  3. Viruses are passed on through networks, and interchanged by servers, and people. If you leave your computer on with adequate protection you are safe.If you shield on a firewall, an anti-virus, then you are safe.It is mostly when you are visiting or downloading a file is when the viruses starts to attack you.Otherwise, if you do not have internet explorer surfing on Automatic Random mode, then you are safe.If you do not have Kazza running, then you are safe.Zone Alarm is a must if you are going to keep your computer on overnight. It detects whenever a program wants to install (itself), when a program wants to access the internet, or in otherwords when anything happen. And until you accept and sign its passport, it will deny it from doing anything.
  4. The Media Centre Operating System from Microsoft is a revolutionary piece of software that is the best to come out from Microsoft yet.It offers a sleek interface, and has many advantages over the traditional ways of entertainment.Imagine having your Music, Videos, and TV in one place. Your desktop can be in the Home Office, and You can be in the living room, accessing the video files on your computer to play on the widescreen. It is just the simple glory that makes this new operating system the hype of the now.
  5. I Have a Yahoo 2GB storage, and I am using 1%. I like deleting my mail.. It makes it clean, easy searchable features, and it just, is a habbit. I get the 2GB storage for free anyways ..And I didn't ask for it either.
  6. Although Broadband over powerline may be the hype of today, the same can not be said about tomorrow.Since Broadband over powerline is capped at a rate of 14mbps, 20mbps max, it will not become the future. The future demands a strong baseline of speed, and the traditional DSL and 56k has it. No not copperwires, but Fiber Optics.Cable has already adopted to these standards.Although many residential cable connections are capped at 3mps-6mbps, its full capactity speed is at 100mbps. Your comcast internet cable provider is just limiting your speed!Imagine this: the fastest broadband known today is cable.1) OC-28, OC-Lines (Up to 1GB of transfer) -- Cable.2) Residential Cable (Fiber Optics) Up to 100MBPS -- Cable.3) Governmental Labatory Internet (Fiber Optics) Up to 1 TB -- Cable.
  7. Intel has a competitive advantage over AMD because of the ammount of research money it shells out. With the kind of money it invests in low-power consumptions, size, and power, Intel is always a safe haven for this who know nothing about chipsets. In Ten years from now, when Intel announces the "214 TSH Giga work holy mother" chipsets, those AMD people will be left in the dark.Either they will have to buy a new motherboard, or be left with last years technology.Since intel is a big company, it is naturally more trusted in a wide array of areas.Since intel has mostly announced new technology, they willl be the future to come. From clock-speed to processors type. Codename Yoonah would work here.
  8. The iPod has the advantage that no other competitors has -- Sleek, Compact, Elegant design. It can be controlled by one hand exclusively, and with a nice interface, the iPod Photo wins -- hands down. This combined with the iTunes music jukebox, makes it an instant winner. The iPod photo has a very clear aryllic screen that is highly pollished. Most Mp3 players doesn't. Whenever you are shopping for a screen, the easier it is scratched, means the more it is pollished. The more it is pollished, means the higher grade glassed that has been used. The iPod offers a stunning LCD screen with very bright pixells that can illuminate a room, and draw attention like the monochrome iPods can not.The iPod winner is a beginning of the Color-Screen mp3 wars. Many manufactures has adopted, but apparently the (Un)Creative mp3s hasn't.
  9. It is reommended that you run of native-resolution. If you run on anything besides native-resolution, your pixels can become jagged, and completely unreadable. So when you are shopping for a LCD moniter, take its native-resolution into account. Although the box may state 1028x740, it can also run at 1480 x 1240. (The resolution numbers are rough estimates). Although it can run at a much better resolution, it becomes blurly, and such. That is why it is always better to run at its native resolution.I personally like the 1024 x 720 ordeal. The font is not to big, nor too small. The icons are not minis, nor largies.

    Good Computer?

Dell is a cheap and affordable solution that may or may not be a good thing.Dell offers an excellent array of computers ranging from desktops to notebooks, that run superior grade- stability. If you are not a computer techie, you might want to shield from dell.Dell customer support is based in India, hence their heavy accent can get to the best of us. Others just find it plain annoying. They will put on a big fight over debating the functionality of a broken equipment, even if they have not seen it. They are known to digg their ego into something that they think to be the best equipment ever.If you say it is broken, they refuse to accept that notion. However, Dell is an awesome way to go. However, if you expect to use the computer for more than say, five years, then I would reconsider.Dell has an integrated Bios that limits the parts you may use use when upgrading. That is where the "Build it yourself" services come in.Although many are daunted by the sight of even seeing the live snaking wires of a computer, you can always have a customised computer by the following ways:1) Hire a techie to assemble your computer2) Go to Cyberpower.com or Ibuypower.com, and have them built it for you.Cyberpower and IBuypower will let you choose EVERY SINGLE part of your computer, down to the motherboard, to the bare-heart type of CPU.If you are lazy, and not willing to research "Asus P$%^&* PRO DELUXE SLI VERSION OF THE PCI HOLE" then Dell is for you. However, since when you are buying a branded name computer, such as Dell, you are also buying its label, believe it or not.A computer from Dell that costs 1000 U$D could only cost 500 U$D at cyberpower.Cyberpower has gotten great reviews. Personally, I have ordered from them, and even though their tech support can be lousy, your problem will always be resolved. Look at it this way: If you ask them politely, they will give you their Cell Phone Numbers!!!Otherwise, you can call the toll-free 877 number or 800 number.
  11. Dell Inspirion 9900 is a work of magic, but it is does carry a burden.Introduction the Dell Inspirion 700m. Mobile. Compact. Sleek. One major factor that the Dell Inspirion 700m has that the 9900 doesn't have is a glossy screen. Most laptops, LCD screens, etc. have a dull look. If you want that glassly looking screen, then you want the Dell Inspirion 700m...If the wide-screen of the 9900 is what is pulling you from the 700m, don't.Although it is nice to have a wide-native screen, its cons outweigh its pros. For a laptop, a thin and light is a definite. If you want a larger screen when you are at home, you can always buy a LCD Panel for very cheap these days. When you are lugging around a laptop, you will regret you got the 9900, for its weight alone. It is a hunky beast, and not suitable to mobility. The lighter the better.Esp. If you are going to use it in college. You will need mobility. You will need low-power usage, to the sacrifice of screen size. The Dell Inspirion 700m fits perfectly as a notebook would. It is small, compact, yet meanwhile durable. At the price point you have quoted, it can be twice as cheap. If you type in Dell Coupons in Google Keyword Search, you will see a list of coupons...SAVE $600 on select Inspiron? notebook purchases $1499 or more (before tax and shipping)! 12. Skype is a revolutionary Internet Telephony that is free. It is free to the sacrifices of the following:1) You can not call out to ordinary land-line phones without a cost.2) No voicemails without a cost3) No Message Box without a cost.I have tried skype, and I believe the sound quality all depends on your internet speed.Since the Internet (DSL, 56k) travels over copper cables, it is a lossy soultion. In other words, if you talk to your neighbor it will sound crystal clear... but the longer that "data" you sent over the copper cables has to travel further, then the more lossy it will get.A perfect analogy of this is the boy-scout game: Pass it on.One person will recieve the message directly... but the more and more it gets passed on, over distance, the message will begin to distort itself. However, a new kind internet has revolutionsied the way we talk with VOIP. Fiber Optics.Fiber Optics is a thick cable that can span very far. But unlike the ordinary copper cables, it's interior is glass. When light travels directly head-on with glass, it can travel great distance and at the speed of light. When you click "http://forums.xisto.com/; on your web browser, you are sending permission to access a page. That permission has to get to the "Xisto.com" webserver. If the permission were to be mailed, it will be super slow. If it were to be transfered at the speed of sound, it will still be slow. The speed of light is needed. Hence, All data is transfered at the speed of light, through your copper wired DSL, 56k, etc.Cable has adopted to the Fiber Optics standard.Although the Speed of Sound may sound fast, it is not. Given that is travels oh some 500mphs, it will take about four hours to travel a single string of information from california to new york, or vice versa. The speed of light has made that possible -- instantly..All in all it depends solely on your internet connection. For best results adapt to Fiber Optics which is cheaper than your ordinary Copper Wire for twice the speed. However, it is not widely available as the Copper Wire technology.
  13. We have a lot of old computers... very old. One iMac G3, One Unbranded 800mhz Computer, and an ancient 400mhz "thing." Our new computers are for business... homework... etc..It is a Dell Inspirion 5100 laptop. And even that is getting out of date.
  14. I signed up today for hosting, package two to be specific. The package two states: . When I created the account and signed in, my CPANEL displays only 20 megabytes, and a 500mb bandwidth. I signed up for package two. Any comments would be welcomed.
  15. I have overclocked my computer before. However, it caused a magnitude of problems, so I had to set it back to the default, manufactured, settings.I had increased the speed 1/4. However, it generated much, unneeded heat, along with system unstability. It was horrible. After my overclocking, My system started to restart spontaneously, black-out, etc. I also started to recieve the Blue Screen of Death.I have noticed the fan started to run really loud, and it started to consume a lot more energy. The heat over-all, with the loud fan was a total turn off.
  16. I use my computer for many various things:Windows XP Laptop:1) AOL Instant Messenger2) My Little collection of Games that I never Play3) Programs that can not be used on Macs4) Website Designing (Frontpage)5) E-mailMac Desktop:1) Video Editing2) iTunes +iPod3) Photo Editing4) Web Surfing5) Online Shopping6) Music7) Watching Movies9) Security Important stuff.8) Everything else.
  17. Setting Firefox as your default browsers does not necessarily means replacing internet explorer.Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows XP, as shoe laces are to the tennis shoe.Internet Explorer is the mainstay to Windows XP search feature, folder browsing, etc. When you are clicking on My Computer, you are using Internet Explorer to search your computer.Although this may be a little bit confusing, it really isn't.When you click on My Computer, you will see its address as: "C:/My Computer."This is the same thing as "trap17.com; but by typing in "C:/" you are telling your computer to access your hard-drive, not the internet. So to completely remove Internet Explorer is harmful to your Operating System, if not impossible.
  18. Comparing Windows XP to OSX Tiger is like comparing Apples to Oranges... Apples... HAHA!! Get it? Ok... Knock on wood... While Windows XP is targeted for the mainstream users, that strives for wide-scale compatibility, whether in the work force or at home, OSX Tiger is targeted to the corporate world where a single down-time can cause millions of dollars in damages. OSX Tiger is a very reliable operating system, while Windows XP is a very versitille operating system. For the average user, playing games, doing homework, Windows XP is a must. So much more games are compatible with Windows XP but not with OSX Tiger. For the more avid users, video editing, photo editing, OSX Tiger is a must. Apples offers a comprehensive layout of its program, that offers simplicity, ease, and seamlessness. If you are here to impress, Apple is the way to go. Its operating system is very easy to use. If you are here as a gamer, Windows XP is the way to go. It offers a broader selections of games. Recently OSX Tiger has added a wide array of useful features that has ought to find competitions: Spotlight, Automator, CoreImage, etc. More features can be found at http://www.apple.com/. Windows XP lacks many security anemities, most notably virus protection. Although you can tweak, hack, and download, Windows XP enhancer, it is never the same. The new world is demanding for a integrated solution, and in an operating system that offers Virus, Firewall, Real-Time Search, among other features built-in, there is no competition. OSX Tiger wins... hands down.. *This has not been a biased review. I use both OSX Tiger as well as Windows XP.
  19. Some say you can not buy convenience. Some people do.Leaving your computer on or to turn if off is more of a convenience issue than anything else.I personally leave my computer on 24/7 to enable instant access. If you are always on the go, like me, I need to be able to access certain information, at any given time.I can definitely not wait three minutes to a computer to boot, and then load the pile-of-programs, when I have to be going now!So in a sense, if you leave it on, it is a convenience thing. To address the electricity bill... If you use a fairly light computer, such as a laptop, the bill will not run as high as a desktop computer. Just remember to turn of the moniter kids!
  20. It just depends on the websites you visit. If you are a mainstream internet users, you will hardly get viruses. If you visit reptuable websites such as Dell.com, CNN.com, ABC.com, WB.Com, etc., most likely you will never get a virus. However if you have gone astray, and visited random websites, you may be at risk. When I am using my Windows XP laptop, I only visit reptuable wbesites. When I am using my iMAC, I feel confident enough to visit any website I please...On average, I have had 10 viruses throughout my Window's XP career. This is not a lot, but I prefer if I had none.
  21. In my opinion, Bit Torrent is a "safe-way" to filesharing. Nevertheless, I never endorse filesharing.Filesharing always poses a risk, regardless of a client. Even though you may have the sharpest-security protection, best File Sharing client, you will always be at risk...Unless you have special arrangement with the government, they can always track down your IP, via your ISP, etc. When in doubt, don't download at all.
  22. When you are looking at laptops, you have to look beyond just the specs. You have to look at its appearance.Imagine this: You are in public your your thick-thick dull-black laptop, with a very dainty screen... How embarassing...The catagory that wins in both appearance and specs is Apple Computer. It fosters a great sleek look, that is inspiring to the eyes, and catchy to the bone.If you are not up to par with the price tag, Dell rates second.Although recently Dell has gone astray into the realm of black-casing for the entry-range, the higher-end models are nicer.I would definitely recommend the Dell Inspirion 700m. The price as it stands right now is 1019U$D. This is fairly a mid-price laptop considering the brand's boast for "Low-Prices."If you do not need the ultimate portability, I would press hard on the Inspiron 6000. Its current tag is at 674 U$D. This is fairly fairly cheap for a laptop. It gives you an amazingly 15.4 inch screen, but to the sacrifice of a Celeron processor. You have to consider the following:1) Price2) Portability3) Speed4) Appearance5) Quality*These are not arranged in any specific order.
  23. This is very true. A computer in your room may lead to withdrawl from the "family" realm. It is very important to have the computer accessible to everybody, in a public room. (I.E. Home office, Kitchen, Family Room.) After a while parents will get tired of seeing you in your room all the time, and never with the family... THe thing to blame: Your new Computer. Even if you have to stack seven computers into your home office -- do it. A home office full of computer-users, is better than five rooms, with a geek each inside... Plus the mutual collaboration is good, even though you may be doing different things.
  24. A series to recommend if you will be using your "LAP"top, on a Desk: Dell Inspiron 5100. For college, if you are going to do work exclusively pertaining to schoolwork, go Apple. Their website can be found at http://www.apple.com/. If you are the average college student, meaning games on downtime, partying all night, I would recommend Dell's systems. If you have a perfect timing, and don't need the laptop anytime soon, Dell is the way to go. Weekly, Dell has different promotions that may bring their prices down an-sixth fold. The current series that is very catchy is the Dell Inspiron 700m. It is a travel-size laptop.. that catorgorises in the Thin-and-Light... and wieghs less than 5lbs. It has a full-functional (17in?) widescreen, and excellent color. The price as it stands right now is 1019 U$D. It is 19 U$D above your budget! I guess you can spare a week's allowance ...

    Good Computer?

In general, Dell, Apple, computers are best for the average consumer.Big vendors are best because you know you have a reliable system. You know they have had experience in their field, as well as research, and etc. However, if you are on a budget, consider the following:1) If you are buying Dell, HP, Gateway computers, you are partly buying their brand-name. 2) With smaller computer firms, you can get twice as fast, at a fraction of the price. So in conclusion if you are willing to sacrifice the "superb" customer service.. (that Dell doesn't have)... but settle at a "superb" price... then I would definitely recommend Cyberpower, Ibuypower.. These are PCGamer Magazine acclaimed vendors. They can also be spotted at C|Net Reviews.
