  1. XFX 8600 GT graphics card doesn't support HDMI. You can check your product description or this link to be sure. If HDMI was supported you would only need the HDMI cable. HDMI consists of both audio and video, so there are no separate cables for audio and video separately. And even if you had HDMI on your laptop, you can't record that way. Because HDMI's on laptops are only for output. So you are basically talking about connecting the HDMI output of your CPU to the HDMI output of your laptop which is not possible. But why do you want to record on your laptop when you can do it in your desktop PC itself. There is a popular software known as FRAPS which can record your game play. If you still want to play and record on two machines, you can use a TV tuner to take in the output of your HDMI graphics card output and record on your laptop. [2 mins] Oops! I just checked now, there are no external (/internal) TV tuners supporting HDMI inputs. May be you should upgrade your PC so that you can play games as well record it without any game performance issues.
  2. As far as I know, putting links to our web pages is allowed as long as the link relates to the topic being discussed. That is, if I write an article on HTML/CSS, I can add the links to examples in the topic. Correct me if I am wrong.
  3. Time-lapse is a very powerful technique to document extremely slow changing phenomena. For example blooming flowers, sunrise and sunsets, rotting fruits. Basically in this technique, a series of photographs of the subject are taken at regular intervals and then arranged sequentially to create a small movie of all those shoots. Stop motion photography is another similar technique, used to create the illusion of the objects appear to be moving. Taking a time lapse: To take a time-lapse photograph there are somethings which need to be kept in mind, like time-interval and the number of photographs to be taken. Also depending on the number of images, the video FPS is to be decided. 25 FPS would produce smooth motion. However, even 15 FPS would produce equally dramatic results. You can take time-lapse using any camera, and don't need to use a preset function for this purpose. The next step is choosing a good subject. A sunset or a sunrise is always a good subject. You can also consider a developing building, crowds of people, traffic, growing plant. Anything which moves slowly, or changes slowly over a vast period of time is a great subject for time-lapse. The main idea of most time-lapse videos is to have the camera as still as possible, though this is not essential. Lighting or the time of day is a another aspect which needs to be thought of, for example, for a time-lapse of building construction it is important to take the photo at the same time everyday. In the final step you use software to make a video out of those images. Here, I have provided only basic information about time lapse photography. You can check out the following links for more information. You can also search for youtube website for time-lapse videos, there are some really interesting ones.
  4. What are readability tests? They help us tell how well the articles are, in terms of understandability, complexity etc. There are many methods and tools available to analyze the texts. Wikipedia has detailed description of all the readability tests. Following are some of the online tools to analyze texts: 1) http://www.webpagefx.com/tools/read-able/: It gives many test results, and even underlines complex words. The website also has the formulas written in Java language. 2) http://juicystudio.com/services/readability.php: Apart from the tests it also contains brief description about the methods and there index/grade meanings. 3) http://labs.translated.net/text-readability/: This one uses another algorithm, and provides suggestions to improve the article. In Google docs you can find these results in Tools > Word Count. There are three test results: Flesch Reading Ease, Flesch-Kincaid Grade, Automated Readability Index. What do you think about these methods and tools? Do you find them useful?
  5. I think this google chat bot will serve the need for online communication. To join the freelancers online chat room, add: fluchat [at] gmail [dot]com to your contacts list. The chats you send will be echoed to all the online members (not to those who are offline).
  6. @kimochitim: I sent the request. For managing tasks remeberthemilk.com would be nice as kim told. Onscreen has some nice suggestions too. For IM group chat, we can setup a gtalk group chat. There's a perl script out there. This basically sends out the chat you send to all of the members who are online and subscribed to the group. Here's a brief overview on what I can do and know:* XHTML + CSS coding using div layouts.* Extensive knowledge in photography.* Good knowledge in PHP, MySQL, SQLite, AJAX. Can quickly build up specific skills in these.* Forums administration experience.I am a quick learner. I am a beginner to the world of image manipulation programs like photoshop. So right now, I can't offer much help on graphics side.About getting clients, I think we can get some freelance projects which pays well and requires broad range of skills.Regards,Len
  7. If you want to hotlink images on your website, may I recommend using tinypic.com. Its a sister website of the more popular photobucket.com. It offers better management of your images and you can trust the services offered by them as they are reliable.I noticed that imagehost.org not only offer image hosting but any file type upto 100 MB size. The faq page says that there is a restriction on the image size (500 Kb). Its fine for website images, but I would still go for tinypic.
  8. Very nice. What Do You Call This? --> Mosaic art. That's what the commenter's are telling about this. Although we can manually cut the image, I think a photoshop action which does that, that is, cut the image into several parts, but still retaining those cutouts in a single image. But the point here is not that, he creatively used flickr to do something unique. Varalu, do you really think he took those images separately? And when I had a look at those 200 comments this is what Norby tells on one of them: Sometimes each of the parts make for its own unique photograph. Here's what I tried, but alas it has too many parts, so can't use it on flickr. [image Removed] [image Removed] Where does this work best: portraits or landscapes? Panorama... this is something which I love creating. Taking shots and then stitching them. The only factor that matters is lighting. That is, getting the same exposure on all the panoramic parts. [image Removed] Its not that accurate though.
  9. How did the flickering problem arise suddenly? Did you change any settings or resolution?60 Hz is the minimum value with which you can comfortably view without noticeable flickering. Regarding the refresh rates not showing, the OS contained drivers may not to fully support your monitor, so you need to install the video drivers from your motherboard CD, if you have not already done so.Also try reducing the screen resolution and see if the refresh rates appear in the drop down box. Because it shows the refresh rates only for the resolutions on which it works.
  10. For all who don't know what dot.tk does, its a service offered by the country of Tokelau, a country in the South Pacific offering their country top level domains for free worldwide. May be it was a few months back when I first came to know about that website. At that time it was showing banner ads on all its free domains. But today I just registered a free domain for my friend, and what I didn't see, is those big banners. May be they are earning much more now to keep the service ad-free. Also because the uni.cc are back up again, they are onto the competition offering free domains. But uni's got the upper hand, as they offer complete dns control. But I am here to get a .com domain. And just wanted to keep you updated of the free domains world. Right now I think the most popular ones giving out free domains are:uni.ccdot.tkfreedomain.co.nrDo leave your thoughts.
  11. Today when I was searching some photography related website I found something interesting. A custom site search box appearing in Google search results. See the image below to see what I mean. I don't know if this feature has been there before. This can be handy useful tool when searching for something on large websites whose built-in search scripts are not efficient to smash accurate results. This would save time entering the site:sitename in the search box. But the thing is that, it doesn't show up for most of the websites. And the probability of its appearance depends on the how similar are the keywords with the website name. For example, when we enter pbase the search box shows up, but when you enter base p, the custom search box doesn't show up although the website shows up in the first position. Then I tried Xisto, unfortunately it doesn't show up. Are we required to add any codes onto the website to show up the custom search tool?
  12. Oh! Thats a way bit too much. 5 or 10 min would have been more than sufficient. I thought the system would be partial to moderators, but its treating everyone equally!Edit: Well, here I need another 8 posts to enter into the shoutbox.
  13. Heres the good news! I just checked the website and the registration for new domains are open now. Go get your own domain fast. I just registered one and am waiting for the dns to propagate. They are offering NS, A, MX records. You need to add the the code for the uni.cc's logo in the homepage and subdomain homepages (if any). The HTML code can be found in domain control panel.
