  1. I'm very sorry to read this post. But as it was stated above, dont let this get you down.Encourage your friend to set up a membership here on Xisto. There is plenty of support here for him if he is willing to learn more about the internet and its posibilities.I believe, now in these hard times, that setting up shop yourself is a better way to go if you cant get a job. Their is much potential for the likes of your friend to pick a hobby of his, and let the world know more about it. With a bit of creativity along with his interests he may be able to set up a site or blog of his own.Im sure this guy has qualities, so he must use them now to his advantage. And you must also remember that their are many more people on the same side of the water as him.
  2. I know that there are so many people out there that cant stand there jobs. But, when it comes to the end of the week, they get their cheque and thats all that matters. I love my job. My work is in the sports industry, so I get to watch and monitor sport all day. One person might say that thats one of the best jobs out there and I'd agree. But if you look at others in our workplace, people who hate sport, if they get the option to go home an hour early, they jump at the chance. Me, well if I went home an hour early, I'd be watching the same sport I'd be watching at work, so whats the point. It all depends on your goals in life. Some collegues are happy to grind out their 40 hours and leave it at that. Some don't have any motivation into impressing and are happy with the setup they have. I know one guy that money is no motivation to him and although he works for his wage, thats to pay his bills and beer. He's happy with life the way it is. He once told me to my face, if he was offered a promotion, he'd decline it because that would be to much a change for him. There are almost just as many female in my workplace as male and, not being discriminative in any way, 75% of these eighter dont understand the appeal sport has to people or just cant stand it themselves. I used to think to myself, how can you apply for a job here if you hate sport? Well, just as sheepdog said, when people have a job, they are just happy to have one and will grind it out untill its done. When their shift is over they switch off and forget all about it untill they log in the next day. Me on the other hand, when I'm finished will still keep it in my mind. Friends play a major part of this also. Lots of people go to work with a list of gossip to tell their collegues, or stories about what was on the tele last night. Its a way for them to make their job more enjoyable. These people wouldn't dream of changing job, beause that would only mean they would need to make a whole new batch of friends. And maby even loose the ones they already have. As you might have your goals in life leeindia, you'd be very surprised the mentality of others. For all you know is that one person might only want to work their to pay off their debt, then plan to travel, or are in the process of setting up their own business and are using the job as security untill their business kicks off. Or maby its the only job they can get. Who knows???
  3. Good post, but unfortunately I have to go by the rules here. At my work we must firstly swipe our card at the front door to unlock it and at the second door scan our finger to gain entry to the building. I know that this is annoying for most of us, when trying to reach our desk as quickly as possible before 9:00 strikes, after that rush hour traffic. Swiping the card lets the system know your in the building, so incase of a fire drill, security know exactly who is and isn't in the building. On reguards to the finger scan, this has benefits also. Because we have so many details of credit cards of customers on premises, only authorised staff are aloud into the building. I also know, for a fact, that this is a necessity for insurance reasons. Banks (maby its just Visa) wont alow you to use their service without these facilities. Honestly, I'm not sure if these rules are currently in place by all companys, but I do know that pretty soon companys wont have a choice. When I sit at my computer, I need to log onto my system before I start my shift. This is because every detail that is changed on a customers account, aswell as every action I undertake, is monitered. If a problem occurs within the business, personal can highlight the employee who delt with this action, fast and efficiently. This saves the business time, money, and covers themselves if a problem gets out of hand. In relation to the points you are more interested in, unlicenced software. This is most important for a company to control its employees from using this type software. Yes I understand that it is much easier and quicker for you to complete your projects by using downloaded software, but be very careful. The reason you have been briefed on this is so the company can hold you to your actions. If you get caught the company could get a hefty fine, which may result in jeopardizing your job with them. http://www.out-law.com/page-2593 If your falling behind on your work, spend an average of a half hour per day using these types of software on your home computer. OK, I know your saying, Im not going home to do extra work, and not get paid for it. But in the long run you will benefit majorly from this. Two points off the top of my head. Firstly your employers will be happy your getting your work in on time and not using unlicenced software. Secondly, your insuring your job for yourself. In these hard financial times, don't give your employer any reasons to lay you off. On the plus side, if all your collegues stick to the rules, that small bit of overtime will make you look better then them, hence you'll be top of the pile if promotion is lurking around the corner. I'm stating facts here. Of course I dont know your suituation with your employees, whether they support your decisions or not. But as I said, dont give them any reason now days to kick you off the team you've worked hard to be on. Hope I answered all your Q's
  4. Why do people get nervous about public speeking? The main reason is because the speeker isn't confortable in how the audience will react to their words or actions. There are many strategies and methods which will only be prefected by you, depending on how observent you can be, while you talk. The best way to over come these fears are, as menchioned by someone above, preparation. When you walk into a classroom, or up on a stage, you should make sure your looking your smartest. By this I mean, well dressed and fresh looking. One of the main downfalls in a speaker, is confidence in their appearance. So by looking good, your increasing your chances of feeling good and forgeting all about your favourite blue shirt. A good nights sleep is also essencial. This will help you keep your concentration on the topics your briefing and not stray off point to many times. This will help keep the interest of your listeners, by not talking waffle or making mistakes which you may need to backtrack on. Facial Expressions. When you talk to a group, you must talk to the whole group. When words come from your mouth, speek to everyone. This means, don't draw eye contact with anyone, make eye contact with the overall group. You should find yourself looking around the group, as if waiting for someone to put their hand up. So, ever look at a student directly, unless your directing a question to them. Remember, if three out of the thirty students look to have no interest, well you have 90% of your class under your spell. If you let this other 10% get to you, the figure will only increase, negativly. So, block these people out and when you glance over the group, continue as if they wern't even in the room. Topics: This is the most important aspect of your talk. What would you be interested in if you were the one listening to a speaker? Connect to reality. Include up to date gossip. If you make a point, back it up with modern related news. You dont want people to disagree with you, so be extra strong with your words and relate them to recent news. Try to fit in with their interests, as if you are one of them and pick lines that you know they will agree on. Posture will help you relax while you stand on stage. Stand up straight, keep one arm by your side and the other between your stomach and chest. When you speek use this raised arm to elabourite with. A trick I learned here was when I changed topic of conversation, only then I would change my positition. eg. After ending a topic, I would turn with my side to the listeners, drop my head slightly (not moving my arms) and say. "Now I would like to talk about..." And again, have confidence in yourself, the more you worry the more unwanted butterflies will appear! Best of luck with your speach folks...
  5. Thanks for the reply and support rpgsearcherz. You hit the nail on the head by saying you want to set up your own business "more as a hobby than for a living". The main point here is that your going to enjoy what you work at because its a liked hobby of yours. Also that your not quitting your day job untill your business is generating a small income or at least a general interest. Just on the point of the surveys. 5000 is alot of work. You dont need to put this much effort into it. If I needed feedback for certain aspects of the business, 100 serveys should be enough to find what Im looking for. With the information I receive from these 100, would be taken back to analyze. Then, if need be, I would draft another survey to be undertaken. Remember, this is to find information that is relevent to your business success, not just a figure that looks good on the business plan or reports. Again, best of luck all...
  6. Setting up your own business is well and good, but I'd have to suggest a few things here before you try to make your first million. I'm currently in the process of setting up my own business, but I also have a full time job. My ideas come after my work, and doesn't stop me from having a social life. Yes this makes the setup process for my business much longer, but I have something to fall back on if it fails. It may fail because I left something out or because of something totally out of my control. I can only spend about two hours a day on furthering my setup of the company, but I have to pay bills, put dinner on the table and put something away for a rainy day or the dreaded emergency which may occur, AT ANY TIME. I recommend if you are interested in setting up your own business, to take extra time in researching your product or service for two reasons: 1) Money is Money, so if you fail or need to restart again this is: a) a waste of your time, which you could have spent working for someone else, a hole in your pocket, which may lead to problems with stress or relationships difficulties (family or/and spouce). 2) Time is precious, If your going to take a risk, it better be wort it. Whats the point in running your own business, making just enough to get by, when you could be working a 40 hour week, with no risks, earning the same or even more money. So, do the research to see if your product is unique and feasible. A good suggestion is to do a survey, online or offline. You can do this in online chat rooms or forums, or in your local town by approching people on the street. Ask them valid questions in relation to your idea. eg, If this service was available would you use it? What would you be willing to pay for this service? Do you know of any other companys that offer this service and why do you use them? etc, etc, etc... Also, a good suggestion is to pick about three business men/women in your area, that you know are sucessful at their trade. Ask for their opinion on your ideas. If these entrepreneurs are good picks by you, ask them for some help on certain points your not sure of, or are stuck on. They were in your shoes at one stage and their opinions may be the difference in you failing or sucseeding. They may even support your idea by financialy investing in your start. Your a business man, so think like a business man. Dont go with the first thing that comes to mind because you cant wait to get started. Look for gaps in markets, products or services that arn't available but will make peoples life easier if they use your product. When your research is complete, and you have proof your service or product has a demand (from your surveys), draw up a Business Plan and include all valid research and information you sought in it. This is a type of Thesis of your business, so just as much time as you spent researching your ideas should be spent on it. Your going to be bringing this Business Plan to banks, suppliers, customers and others, so you want it to be as professional as possible. You want people to awh when they reead it. And, most importantly, as I keep stressing, remember: "Your a Businessman, so act like a Businessman" Dont put yourself in debt just because you were sick of your job, or bored from being a bum. Think, Research, Elabourate, and Constructivly Progress. Be clever and shrude, and you'll "become stronger by setting new goals each day" Happy Millions...
  7. I would be very interested in an affiliate program. Id be sure to promote it. Imagine if each user got two new users on average each. Not a bad mark up! However, I dont agree with the referal competition, as stated above, is prone to spam.Think about it Xisto, please
  8. The following will help you cover all topics and questions an interviewer may hit you with.Do your homework on the company you are going for the interview with. Do research on all products they provide or all services they offer. Take notes on the advantages and disadvantages these products or services have to the company and to the customer. With these points have a look at a similar competitive company and compare them to each other.Example:Lets say the interviewer asks you a question "How would you improve the forums for Xisto" Your answers should sound something like "Looking at other similar companies on the web I noticed that Xisto dont include such and such. Xisto forum costs must be higher then other sites but if you look at it from the customers view they receive far better quality posts."I know thats basic, but you see what I'm hitting at. Cover all aspects of their business. Once they find out your up to date on what is going on in the business your a big asset to them.Never be cocky to an interviewer with your answer.Imagine you already had the job and you had an idea. You wouldn't demand for it to be done, you would only suggest it. Managers dont always have the authority to make big changes so they submit their suggestions to a higher manager. So when answering, keep note of this. Prepair for all questions.First Empressions are one of the most important things you need to look at. Arrive 15 mins early, well dressed and make sure you have eaten about a half hour before. You want to keep alert so have a coffee also before you arrive. Take a bottle of water into the interview with you. Sit perked up with your hands on your thighs. Keep interested. If your a smoker, dont have one untill after the interview. It makes your voice more ragged and the interviewer will smell it. They then know you will need a smoke break from time to time and thats a minus. Have as many as you want afterwards!!!When leaving shake the interviewers hand with a smile and a polite goodbye. They have your details so dont ask them will they contact you or will you check back with them. That can be annoying to them.Best of luck and let me know how you get on folks...
  9. Im ready to purchase my hoasting, but this is my major weekness. I know I dont need a good package for the first month, as it will be more like a trial launch for my site. I want the cheapest one to start with but need a few features. Can someone tell me which package is best to start off with.Is the Logic Plan for $1.95 per month good enough for me to start with, if I want to use Joomla? I believe I need fantastico autoinstaller. Also after the first month Ill want to get a proper domain name (eg, mysite.com) and can I purchase it through Xisto also. Thanks for your help on this
  10. Im in process of a new website. I believe the best way for it to be setup is so minimal entry is needed for it to continue running. Its a sport website which will hopefully automaticly desplay, main results and user selected results.A great example of what Im describing is xscores. The info displayed is much the same except graphics will be more appealing.Ill start with an example:Lets say we deal with a Football League. One of the pages will have the league table.I want to have detailed stats added however. ie, yellow cards, shots on target, goals. So, lets deal with player1(p1) and player2(p2) for an idea:p1 got 1 yellow card, had 5 shots on target and 0 goals.p2 got 0 yellow cards, had 2 shots on target and 2 goals. This is continued for each player of the team. So if I clicked the actual team, the database would automaticly add them up. ie, total of 1 yellow card, 7 shots and 2 goals. The whole website will be done on stats like this. Also, I would like to have an entry page that follows something like:Team Number: 0034Game Number: 4Opponent Team: 0021Players: 0021;0043;0076;0036;0024;0073;0043;etc...Yellows: 0021;0024;0073Shots: 0021;0024;0024;0076;0024;0024;etc...Goals: 0024;0024etc,etc,etc...I addition, if a user were to click on a players info page it would bring up his name, age, etc... Using the stats from the databaseAnyone know where or how I can learn my queries.Or if a certain database software is needed, what types do I need to stick by?All recomendations would be great here folks. I would however like the easier software to learn, but can spend time if needed to study it.Thanks for your time in advance,
  11. Just to remind you all that this competition is FREE and the deadline is at 12:45 Saturday, today. Its easy to progress, just pick your selection from the list above.Or is that too hard???
  12. This is due to your posture, power and speed. Other minor reasons involve food and water, but if you read my other posts you'll understand why eating plays an important role.Firstly posture.Your back must be straight, and ALL of your upper body must be relaxed (as stated by someone above, ty). Sprinters use the arms for power, whereas, long distance runners use arms for balance.Your elbow when coming forward shouldn't pass your stomach and your hand when coming backwards shouldnt pass your stomach also. Thats alot shorter movement then a sprinter. So your saving so much energy. So, practice relaxing your shoulders letting your arms swing, rather then pumping them. Remember, your running with you legs not your arms. This should take more stress off your stomach and upper body.Legs.When sprinting your knee comes up in line with your hips (even higher at times). But when jogging, your feet should only swing 45 degrees. Your knees will bend, but only slightly. What your trying to do is move with motion and as little effort as possible. When your feet touch the ground your heal must make contact, then the whole sole of the foot makes contact, then onto the toe to push off. In your discription above, you must be using your upperbody to gain extra speed by slightly leaning your chest forward. This is the sprinting style. When I do endurance runs I get stitches because I train to sprint. Its hard for me to adjust when I go for a jog. But my excuse is that I do drills each day for sprints. It doesnt bother me because I can understand why it hurts. Im putting too much power into a long run. Of course I'm going to get tired, but there is no point me adjusting as it would take too long to adjust back.Imagine when you run your feet are like an army tanks belt rotation. Rather then a sprinter is more like the pistons of an engine. This is hard for me to describe. Look at some videos on youtube of long distance races. Watch how effortless they move.
  13. I believe watches are now going out of date. Except the fashionable dress ones.I'm not big on this subject but I do know my coach uses her phone when we go for endurance runs. So maby you can have a look at them. Almost all phones now days have GPS so I'm sure you can download a free application for this which should save you packet...If I come accross something I'll post it.Hope I've pointed you in the right direction
  14. A few good points were made above but also a few very bad ones. You firstly must remember that if its school or college you are attending that when you get a job and hopefully its a 9 to 5, your schedule will not change that much. So getting yourself into a daily routine now, will benefit you in the long run.Breakfast.If your going for a run in the mornings, there is no point filling yourself up before you start or else you'll cramp up or feel sick. But your just after sleeping for 8 hours I hope, so your completely empty. Try some toasted brown bread (2 slices) with honey, and a glass of orange juice. Give it about twenty minutes to digest while you get your bag and other stuff packed for school. Then go for your run and shower afterwards to revitilise your muscles and mind. On your way to school / work try a nutri-grain bar or a banana, with plenty of liquids - water or more recommended, a power aid drink. Due to your run your musles lack energy now. Have a coffee if you wish.If your not going for a run in the morning, try maby a bowl of cereal with nuts (my favourite is that crunchy nut feast, or wheetaabix with nuts and chopped banana) and an egg with some juice. Get out of the habit of using salts or sauses, their only good for weekening the muscles.Lunch.If its possible always have soup with brown bread for lunch. You shouldn't need butter but its not really bad if you use a small bit. Try not to use soup from cans, if you can get the one from them cartons, much better. Try different flavours so you dont get bored of the same one each day. If soup is too hard for you to make at school or work take a sandwich.Important: No point having small skimpy flat like ones, and eating loads of them. Better to have one fullyloaded. My favourite would be Brown Bread, Chicken, Lettuce, Cheese and even Mayo on it. You gotta make sure you enjoy your food! Sometimes I even add stuffing most times. After the one sandwich I'm full though. I dont recommend yogerts but I'm not against them intirely. If you want one, get fruit and nut ones. Before your training you can have maby a small bit of chocolate but keep it plain, no caramel. Maby have half the bar 25minutes before training and the other half afterwards.Dinner.I liked who ever said home-cooking, this is very important. Yes, potatoes and pasta are the best for this. One of my favourites is potatoes, carrots / peas or beans with a meat or chicken. If its pre-prepaired this can be cooked in 25-35 minutes. For desert stick to the simple fruit, maby some grapes(make sure seedless) mandren orange, dribble some apple juice over it and treat yourself to a half scoup of ice-cream.You shouldnt need to eat for the rest of the night. But if you do, no matter what it is, shouldn't be any bigger then three small mouthfuls. And should not be ate less then an hour before your head hits the pillow.Ill put my house on it your health will sky rocket mate, and you'll feel wonders while you train. So I hope this is what you wanted.
  15. THE FOLLOWING IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LONG DISTANCE RUNNERS IE. CROSS COUNTRY OR MARATHONYour looking for a training to boost your health, which you then hope will increase your looks?I am a sprinter and I train about 3times a week. I have been complemented on my body many times. My training outdoors is far more progressive then both your trainings.Cardio (running for long lenghts of time) will increase your stamina. This is a good form of exercise but too much of it can harm your body.Gym (weights) more then twice a week will seriously harm your body.I recommend you change your eating habits first which I will brief you on and then try my workout.Firsty, it depends on what time of the day you are training. You should eat about, one and half, to, two hours, before your training (if your training in the morning have brown bread toast with honey and a banana 20 minutes before you start). This gives your body the time to process the food and produce the energy your going to use in your training. Carbs are a must here. Now your training prep. Most important thing is your warm up. Start with a jog. No more then a half mile. Then you need stretches which are most important to get that blood flowing to all parts of your body. If you need help with proper stretching, let me know and Ill post them.Your starting to use your muscles now so keep your body hydrated with water or better still energy drinks. I recommend poweraid type drinks.Main Training. Mark out Ten meters with two cones (or jumpers). This is the only space you will need for this training so you can do in in your back garden. I recommend on grass as it is easier on your joints. From cone one to two, on each drill, you are using 90% effort. 100% is ONLY used in competition, 90% helps prevent injury. After each drill (from cone one to cone two) walk back to the start. Do each drill at least two times, when you get fitter, do it three times. In between each numberd drill take 60 seconds rest.1) While walking - Raise up on your left toe, lifting your right knee to your stomach, hold for split second stretching your akilies. Lower your right leg to the ground and raise on its toe, taking your left knee to your stomach. Remember to use your arms ie. When your left leg is up, so is your right arm, when your right leg is down so is your left arm, and vise versa.2) While bouncing - Up the tempo with drill 1. Except more speed in lifting your legs and arms. Not to fast, this will be drill 3. Remember to keep good balance and concentrate on your posture. Back should be straight (Bumb sticking up not out).3) With speed - Same a previous drills but much more power in arms and legs. You should still be moving small amounts for each step taken. About one foot per step.4) Copying the same drills as above (walking, bouncing, then speed) do the exact same as above but sideways. So your going to your left side first, and then the next time to the right. Its important to keep you head straight to prevent neck injury. The following are good for stomach muscles and leg muscles.5) Facing backwards - Stand with straight posture, raise knee to your stomach then while keeping leg bent bring heal to your butt and raise leg up with a stretch backwards to take a step. Leading into the opposite foot coming up to your knee starting the next cycle.6) With bouncing - The exact same as above but quicker making sure your getting a good leg stretch and coming off your toe (not your heal, that will hurt). Dont forget those arms in relation to your feet.7) Now with speed. When you have done this take 3minutes rest. Get fluids into you, remember your muscles need them.Your going to do some fast running now. So mark out 250 meters.Do this three times.First time go with speed of 70%, second go 80%, and third, 90%.Note: The drills you did above were for a reason, Use them in these sprints. When you run power off your toes. Stretch your leg back for longer strides, pull your knee to your stomach, and finaly back down to your toes.Water is needed between each sprint.Cooldown.Take 3minutes to get fluids and do a VERY relaxed warm down (swing your arms, rotate yor hips, then swing your legs back and forth)Complete your session with a very slow half mile jog, taking baby steps. AND YOUR DONE!!!I know this is kind of intence but when you do it for a few weeks you will see wonders. It is great for anykind of fitnessMOST IMPORTANT PART:Now you must eat. Your muscles have been working hard so you need to vitilise them. If this training was done in the morning then soup, brown bread and even a coffee would be suitable afterwards. If done in the evening you should have your normall tea eating unttill your full, not busting.I recommend to all people that tinned and frozen foods are the worst for your body. Home cooking has ten times more benifits for your body and health. Also make sure you get your 8hours sleep as your muscles now need rest.So do I as it took so long to write all this!!!Happy training
