I'd argue that there are many more cases where GIFs are useful. GIFs in most cases produce similar quality and file size images as 8-bit PNGs. 24-bit PNGs are much better quality, especially when reproducing gradients, but they're also much larger in file size.

No problem. As I meant when I said 'Don't take this the wrong way...' I wasn't meaning to be critical but rather trying to find an explanation to a situation that I obviously didn't/don't have enough background about.

This line: echo "<a href="construction.php?action=construct">construct</a>";should be: echo '<a href="construction.php?action=construct">construct</a>';or: echo "<a href=\"construction.php?action=construct\">construct</a>";PHP is going to execute anything within the " " or ' ' so in your case, it gets to the " after the href and then stops.

Is Christianity Just Another Religion Or Its Superior

'Reproduction' and 'birth' are not necessarily the same things. Sure there are other ways to reproduce, but when people refer to 'birth' they're talking about the sperm & egg method of procreation. -
You need to take a step back! For starters, this is posted in the Vent and you were complaining about professional artists, not asking for constructive criticism of your website or how to make it better. The only 'negative' comment you've received in this thread is me calling your site unprofessional. That's not harsh, that's the truth. Being harsh would have been using derogatory terms. 'Unprofessional' isn't derogatory, cos it's the truth, and you've admitted as much. So for you to 'sit back' and then bandy about labels like 'smug' and 'arrogant' is, quite frankly, downright rude. If this had been in a different forum, you would've gotten a different response, but you never asked for comments about your website or advice on how to make it better. I was merely giving a reason as to the situation you were talking about in your first post. Not only rude, but immature too.

Yeah, fully. I saw a guy listening to a Smashing Pumpkins tune once and he turned into a pumpkin and then someone came along and smashed him.

Is Christianity Just Another Religion Or Its Superior

I think you probably don't understand very much about other religions. And anyway, why the contest? Who cares if Christianity is superior? Do you need to feel superior over a certain group of people to give value to your life? -
Opera Web Browser Buy opera web browser today
Tyssen replied to akshay's topic in Websites and Web Designing
And I in fact do. I use both Opera and Firefox every day. And not just for testing. I use Opera as my email client and for all my webmail and use Firefox for normal browsing and as my primary testing browser. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I've developed a site in Firefox (and working around for IE along the way) that hasn't been nearly 100% fine in Opera as well. -
I'm using this one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It's not free though.

That's a stupid argument. "Oh, let's not be worried about crime because it's been going on for ages." That's like saying that all African-Americans shouldn't be allowed in white public places cos that's the way it used to be. You don't need a greencard for Australia. You have to apply to immigrate and you need to meet a certain set of criteria, but it's not a greencard system like the US has. And no, it's not just English-speaking countries that operate that way. Ever been to Asia or Central/South America? Lots of countries require visas just to visit, let alone immigrate. The only reason why there's an open border policy within the EU is because Europe wants to be a trading entity to rival the US, China etc. Having free borders facilitates the importing/exporting of goods, so I think it's more to do with economics than any social aspect.

I wasn't disputing that. My point is/was that the browser with the best CSS support that is PUBLICLY AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW is FF 1.5. So Opera 9 is due soon and it's going to be better; Firefox 2.0 is in alpha development too so who's to say it won't be better again. The argument should only be based on what is currently publicly available. -
This guy's (or girl's) posts are always of the same 'deep' nature - they need to lighten up a bit.

For apache you have to append $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] to the path of your include.

Don't take this the wrong way but your site itself doesn't look very 'professional'. Maybe these professional artists think it would actually be damaging to their reputation to be associated with something they don't view as being very professional. I'm not saying that's the reason why they're not contacting you but it has to be considered as a possibility.

Why is not replying to emails being a pain? Maybe they're too busy.

I'd have a big banner on the home page, but maybe a smaller one on the internal pages. -

Are you calling me a liar? You better not be. Does that look the same as the screenshot you posted? Not it doesn't. It's clearly different. Now go back to that page in Opera and try scrolling. It looks even worse. -

I didn't say web developers should only use Firefox. If you read what I wrote properly, I said it has a number of extensions that make the job easier. For me, the WebDev extension by itself makes FF a better development browser than Opera. With the WebDev extension you can: edit a page's CSS within the browser view a page with styles, images or javascript turned off use a different box model display accesskeys, header info, tab index, block size, div order outline different elements on the page so you can see how your layout's coming together validate your CSS & HTML, either remotely or locally, with a keyboard shortcut validate against WAI and section 508 guidelines view a speed report examine a page's DOM tree And that's just one extension. As for what that Firefox Myths page says about standards, the links to the example and the source in the W3C Standards 'myth' are broken and then it goes on about some guy's website telling people not to use IE which has nothing to do with FF's support of standards. It says FF's support is incomplete, but then does nothing to back it up. The next two points about standards aren't about FF at all, but about the W3C. As for the Acid test, it doesn't look right in FF 1.5, but it doesn't look right in Opera 8.53 either. Well, if we take a look at a slightly more reputable source than that Firefox Myths page, with a proper table of test results like http://www.webdevout.net/browser-support we'll see that actually FF 1.5 scores higher than the other browsers tested (including Opera 8.5) in most areas, so I stand by my original claim that FF has better standards support than Opera. -

It depends what you want out of a browser - email client, bitTorrent support etc may not feature that highly on some people's wants lists. For me, as a web developer, FF beats Opera because it is more extensible and has a host of extensions that make building and maintaining websites that much easier (WebDev, SearchStatus, Bookmarks Synchroniser, HTML Validator) and it follows the W3C standards more closely and consistently than Opera does too.
