Answer to both is yes. Of the ones I've used both Wordpress & Typepad have the facility to do both. Rather than having 8 different blogs, you can split the one blog up into categories.

Just cos you think she shoulda thought of something, doesn't mean she has, so she may have no idea about why you're upset. The same works in reverse. Now I don't know what the exact situation is, I'm just giving you general advice. The best way to avoid/resolve conflict is not to assume the other shoulda done something or shoulda known or whatever and to actually talk about what's bugging you instead of bottling it up. Yeah, you could have that hand sticking out from the overall frame of the site as it does at the top. Also, I'd reduce the size of the nav buttons - there's a lot of dead space after the text. What is the name of the site? I always like to play around with words & fonts so it's hard to suggest anything without knowing the name. If the word ended in a letter with a descender (ie g, p, q etc.), it'd be good to have that letter dropping down below the border of your header to add balance to the bits sticking out the top at the left.

I must admit I've always been a fan of Google and up until recently had no reason to doubt their business practices, but some stuff I've read lately means that I'm never gonna bother using my Gmail account and even if I did, there's no way I'd just leave all my old messages in there. There's suggestions from some people that Google's reasons for offering all this storage space are not really that altruistic. They're more interested in having a monopoly on all the information relating to the way people use the Internet. The more they know about you, the way you browse the Internet, the places you shop online etc., the more they implement targetted web marketing campaigns. And that's only if their only interest is in making money. Take it to the next level and you're talking about infringement of personal rights. Storing all your personal emails on their servers just makes that job even easier for them. Google Watch outlines a few of the reasons why Google may not be the shining light of Internet virtue that it appears to be.

I wouldn't so sure about this one. All empires fall and I've seen figures quoted between 10-20% of the market share that IE has lost to Firefox in the last couple of years. I haven't bothered to read all of this thread but I seem to be in the same boat as most people opting for FF as my favourite browser. And for those who've mentioned it as a tool for web design/development, you should check out this extension. But I also use Opera for reading all my email, both POP and webmail (like Yahoo). I like having an email client & browser all bundled into one so that when you click on links in emails they open in the same application.

If any one site was to cover all the things I'm interested in, then it'd be bound to be in a watered-down version to what I'd ideally expect. There's too many subjects out there for a single site to be able to meet the expectations of everyone. That's why I'd rather go to one site to learn about the latest hard dance music releases and download awesome sets from bedroom DJs, another to find out the latest AFL news & scores, another to catch up on the latest tips in XTHML & CSS design, another for ASP scripting, yet another for PHP scripting an so on.It's a bit like shopping - sure, supermarkets have a lot of products, but it's usually pretty mundane sort of stuff. For the really good stuff, you have to go to specialty stores.

I've been using a computer more than 8 hours a day for about the last 15 years but most of that is work time (still use it a lot at home though too - especially now we've got broadband).

It depends which version of the game you're playing: there's two out there. One is an old one with a link to a page that doesn't exist anymore. The more recent version has the right URL which takes you to where you can get the code.

Some labradors can be a handful. We've got a labrador/border collie cross and a border collie and the labrador is a bit much sometimes but she's also quite well trained and we only took her to puppy pre-school for 4 weeks. But I made a big issue of making sure our dogs did what I want them to cos I can't abide having unruly dogs.

By the way, if anyone is clued up on CSS, they might be able to help me. I'm using CSS rollovers for my navigation links and came across this technique whereby you can set the active link to the rollover state by assigning an ID to the body tag and setting the ID of the link relative to the body ID. It works fine for the first link in the list, but for all the others, it sets the page left and the rollovers for the others link all show the rollover for the active one. If you check out the site and click on the main links, you'll see what I mean. I'm working on a site for my local community association to promote its activities (which includes fighting the government over them building a highway through our suburb) and you can view the design at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I'm using Wordpress to manage the content cos it means other members of the association (who are mostly older people with little computer knowledge) will be able to update the site without having to get me to do it all the time. It's the first time I've used Wordpress (I've used Blogger & Typepad before) and have to say I'm impressed by its flexibility and possibilities. Most of the design is finished - just want to add a few little graphic touches here & there but need to get some content rolling to do that and that's kinda in the hands of the Association, so I'm waiting on them for the time being.

Not forgetting the psy-trance people or the hard house people either.

This probably won't help you too much cos it's in ASP but the shopping cart we use for our company (VP-ASP) offers the exact sort of secure download feature you're talking about. So there's probably PHP shopping carts available that offer the same thing (dunno how free or otherwise they might be though).

Seems to be a common theme lately: either islamic militants causing trouble or the authorities using islamic militanism as an excuse to crack down on whoever is causing them trouble.

I use AceHTML 5 freeware for all my HTML, ASP, PHP, javascript & CSS coding. It's got a good search & replace feature and all code is numbered and colour highlighted and it's a text editor, not WYSIWYG. It also has buttons for inserting lines of code which saves having to type as much.

Not quite sure what you mean by encode, but I use Stoik Video Converter for reducing the file size of movies created with my digital camera (easier for emailing). It's free too.

I see you're using Wordpress for the main site. So is that a template you've used? It all looks very neat and nicely laid out anyway. My only problem is I don't think your index page really complements that design. The index is kinda techy looking while the rest of the main site is kinda minimalist. The design of the HTML site goes better although your links could do with a little more padding to push them away from the left. The HTML site doesn't seem as lively or interesting though as the main site. Which leads me to the question: why have you got 2 different versions of your site anyway? Seems to me like you're creating yourself unnecessary work in having to update them both. One final comment - there's no apostrophe in photos (ie not photo's).

I've just set up my site on Xisto with Wordpress for that exact reason. I'm building a site for my local community association and the idea is that other people will be able to update it too and Wordpress is perfect for that sort of thing - people can create, edit & delete posts but don't need to know anything about coding etc.

The same can be said of any site, no matter what it's content, if no-one views it. If you don't care if anyone views it but you enjoy the process, then that is the point.If you do want people to view it you need to find something interesting to write about, optimise your site for search engines and promote it. There are plenty of blogs out there that are about more than just personal opinions, they can contain news & articles about different subjects as well.
