I applied in July for hosting, here. I got it, everything was ok for the last 3 months. Now I gathered more than 30 credits (thanks to bthaxor's giveaway partially) and I wanted to apply for Hosting Upgrade. I went to the Requests Forums, and when I clicked on the link for the Request Form here I got this error message: Is it something I did wrong? I hope it is so, and it's not the systems's fault. I thank those who took their time to read my problem. Yes, I thank YOU!

It wasn't confirmed that Xisto is trapIt, it was just a theory. As far as I know, it was the name of a computer gaming place Opaque used to go to, so it was a catchy name. Not necessarily reverse psychology, but really, I don't know scam websites to use names like trap or scam, spam, etc. It was a name just for fun. And I very like it how it is.
-
The name Xisto is what got me to this webhost.I mean, I was watching a list of hosts, and this name sounded the best. I wasn't even looking at what the service offers.I don't think the name trap goes against it, but actually makes the webhost more interesting. It means the people that run it have a clever sense of humour and are not doing this just to get money fast and so to attract attention with things like 5giga.com or something like that.

Really really good idea. I didn't think of it before. And it's great that, even if you use your alias to register on a site, if after you have deleted the alias you want to log into that site again, you still have the log-in details (user, password) on an e-mail on your real address. The only problem is you have to do that from the beginning, so it won't work on my current gmail address which receives 30 spams per day. I think you get the same amount of spam regardless of account. Just the filtering differs.I have a Gmail account and 2 YahooMail ones. I do receive less spam on the yahoo accounts, but it's just because whenever I have to register on a forum or a website, i use the gmail address.

The theme looks really really nice. That's what I don't like anymore about Gmail, it lost to Yahoo in terms of user interface.I mean, yes, maybe sometimes Yahoo mail loads a bit slow on bad connections, but it looks really great, and using AciveX for things like drag-and-drop e-mails from folder to folder and so it's really nice.So I'm with you with the Skins suggestions. The current Gmail looks just too... old-fashioned.

But still... I hate these 'disguised' things. It's almost sure it's that guy's/girl's website, he put 100 google ads on it, and now he's trying to get visitors. Nobody will click those lousy links. If he would have been interested in discussing the topic, he could have done it here. Pathetic.

Hi, Blue_Soul!And welcome to Xisto!Normally at each introduction some older member comes in and tells you the boring things about one-liners and spam...... I'm glad I got faster than them here to tell you an honest welcome without the yata-yata.Making a topic in the Introductions section is very heplful in getting those initial 10 credits, so good idea! :)And you'll see, after you get hosted, keeping enough credit points it's quite easy, you just have to write a post like mine here every other three days.See you around!

That's outrageous or it's just my impression? But it looks like SPAM.And even puting a title to get replies and so attention to your advertisement.Shameless.Or maybe I'm missing something, as people above had no problem with the big ad.

Suggestions For Version 3 Of The Credit System
bittr replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Web Hosting Support
I think that wouldn't be a problem, what kind of replies you get to your topic, if the system for replies would be based on the normal system for posting. How I would imagine it to be, you would get, say 1% from the values of the replies in your topic, and not something based on how many they are. So, if a reply is good and gets more credits, you get more credits. And that might be even easier to implement now than another counting idea. When somebody submits a post, he gets, for example 2 credit points, and in the same time 0.02 credits (1%) goes to the starter of the topic he posted in. And the initiator spamming in his topic... That wouldn't also be a problem........ He would get only a bit extra credit, and if he would manage to keep the discussion in the topic alive, that would be a good thing for Xisto, as it would bring more and more content. That's the idea after all. But anyway I think this 'credits-for-replies' would be overall a good thing for trap. [sidenote: so, Saint-Michael, you started this topic because the system is already applied? ] -
Is Romania a third world country? As far as I knew, third world ment Africa and part of South America. And about free software for countries where people can't afford it... It is being done somehow. I mean, yes, not premium software, but a person who wants to learn programming can use the Express editions of Visual Studio, for example, which are free. Or there are of course a lot of free alternatives for most things. The real problem with the piracy is that it's so simple to download cracked programs from torrents. But if a person really wants to, he/she can do very well with free software. It's just a bit trickier than just get some easier-to-use cracked programs.

Nice story. Quite common, actually, I think almost every teenager has some kind of these problems with its parents. The things you stand up for are of course right, but it's also this thing with diferences betweent generations. I think our generation hears a lot more things about anti-racism, anti-homophobism and stuff like that then our parents did. Also... When you are young, you are by definition idealistic, you stand up for everything that seems to you correct and right. When you get older you get a lot of things on your head, always busy and tired, and at that moment some people just don't care about what's right and care only about what's good for their families. There was a nice quote about this (kind of), in a political way: "If by your 20s you're not leftist, you have no heart. If by your 40s you're not rightist, you have no brains." I am now 24 and my mother still doesn't accept the thing that I'm atheist (she's christian orthodox), and she keeps trying to influence me every time we talk. Although I respect her choice and I don't have nothing against it, it's just not my belief. So it doesn't get better with the different views. But it gets better that you don't leave with them anymore so these things get only a bit frustrating.

About awardspace.comI am trying today some free web-hosts. The thing is Xisto is very good, these forums are quite friendly, but I would rather not have to post quite frequently. The website I'm doing is more like leisure activity, so I hate the fact that I must remember to post from time to time. I know, nothing is for free, but I'll give it a shot today to search for some alternatives.Anyway, by where I got until now, I'm not very confident I'll find something ok. Either no free MySQL, or no PHP support, etc.But the reason of my topic, to say about my experience with awardspace.comEverything sounded right, PHP support, 1 MySQL database (enough for me), enough file space and bandwidth. The problem came after I activated my subdomain and moving a first file (the homepage) from trap to there.Although my internet connection was good, the homepage was in 2 cases out of 10 inaccesible, that considering there was nothing special on it, and the code worked here on trap. Also, when it did load, it loaded very slow, without a reason.I'm sorry I wasted my time with them. I checked the trap forums before for something on them, but the words against were few and not to convincing. It's good when people say their bad experiences with other hosts, it saves some peoples' time. So, so much for awardspace.later edit: Finally, I gave up. Nothing else good exists. Either ads of some kind, either lack of basic functionalities, either STUPID overdomain names (yes, I would really like my website to be anything.freefreefree.com). As I said somewhere before, Xisto is an awesome name. I think I'll start at one moment my own free hosting company, as all the others (besides trap) simply suck.

Be careful what you wish for. I'm sure there are some statistics of like 0.1% of 60 year olds dying like this. And this would really really spook out your partner and make her think it was her fault (because she was to good ). About me... I would like to live to reach 100 years. Still making sports, playing chess with other people in the park and humiliating them. And then, when I start to lose chess games, I would climb the biggest mountain near me and jump off a cliff. Extreme base-jumping

The Earth Is Really Flat Its a conspiracy
bittr replied to galexcd's topic in Science and Technology
Well, I think actually the whole world consists only of Europe. There never was something after the Atlantic Ocean, there is nothing after the Meditaranean. It's all just a big conspiracy. America hasn't been discovered, because it doesn't exist, there is no such things as countries with more than 1 billion people (that's outrageous). And still this is a better conspiracy theory than the flat earth one! -
I promised myself after last post I'll stop arguing about the matter, it makes no difference anyway. But just two quick things. This is not a valid argument. If the majority believes in some thing, it doesn't mean it is true. In medieval times, the majority thought the world was flat. I asked in my first post what is most likely because in one way you have proofs, in one way you don't. It was a purely rhetorical question. Exactly false. Prove that there is no invisible pink unicorn right in front of you. You can't? And that means that it might be true? I want to say it's nothing personal. Please don't get offended by my views and my way of arguing ideas. If you would meet me you'd see I'm a nice person and this way I'm arguing is actually not so cold and stuff face-to-face. Cheers!

You got me a bit wrong (and being a bit rude in the process, too). It's not the fact that I'm not opened and I don't listen to different theories and ways to explain life. It's just that for some things proofs exist, for some things they don't. I don't have any reason to believe in astrology without any actual proof more than I would have to believe there is an invisible pink unicorn in front of me right now (to quote a famous example). Some people can believe in things because it sounds to them right, it's a nice story and so on. I choose not to. I'm not trying to change your mind. I now I can't. I just wanted to post my opinion, to shout that there is another one quite tired of this things. Let me end by a quick paragraph from wikipedia's page about Astrology.

Ok, thanks for the answer.I'm sorry if this was a duplicate topic... I tried to search for a similar thing on the Suggestions forum, but found nothing.About learning MySQL. Funny.I've worked a lot with MySQL, but never online, always using Toad or something like that. I'll try to find something else to use if the problem persists. Thanks again for clearing things up.

So... I have a problem connecting with phpMyAdmin from time to time. More exactly, it happens I think every 2 days. The error message I get is this: I go to phpMyAdmin through CPanel, of course. (just to clarify my steps) And usualy it starts to work again after like 2 hours, but it's very frustrating that I can't have access to my database when I want. To mention that the database is functional meanwhile, as my website is working. So there's a problem with phpMyAdmin. I'm opened for suggestions. Cheers!

It never ceesed to surprise me how people can believe in this.Just think about it... What it's more likely to influence your character? Your genes, your parents taking care of you when you were little, your first friends and so on.... or just how some planets were aligned? And there is also that thing, like , if you are born on 24 of the month or so... If you were born 4 days earlier your personality would be totally different? I don't think so. It can't depend on that. But there will always be people eager to believe stuff without actual proofs. That's why we had tones of Greek gods, Roman gods, people going to crucades and so on. Poor mankind.

Google's Wikipedia Rival, Knol, Goes Public is it or will it beat wikipedia
bittr replied to etycto's topic in Search Engines
It just might be my first impression, but I think Google's aproach is distancing itself from the concept of encyclopedias.Encyclopedias are like knowledge brought together, a lot of informations about a topic in one place, brought there by different people.Even in its pure meaning, I think of encyclopedias as just anonymous peoples' work, gathering informations about different subjects. And Wikipedia is really good, I'd be surprised if Google could do something better. -

Yes there are. One friend of mine is playing Perfect World: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The game looks very much like World of Warcraft, same ideas... My friend says it even has better graphics. And it's free. I myself didn't play it, as I don't like getting addicted with games. But it's your life to waste

Another Boring New Member Introduction the title says it all
bittr replied to bittr's topic in Introductions
First of all, thanks to everyone for your kind welcomes! Well, yes, it's not the first town that pops in your head when you think of Germany. And it doesn't sound so german also.I did hear about it though very long time ago, when I was a child, in a famous story by the Grimm Brothers, Bremen Town Musicians And this answers Mich's question too. -
A Small Social Networking Site.... as a part of college project
bittr replied to klusk's topic in Websites and Web Designing
bsdpowa was a bit to discouraging to you. I think you can fastly make a small social networking site just with some PHP and MySQL. PHP is actually quite easy for the basic stuff, you can find a good tutorial here, including how to connect to and use MySQL. And if you say you know C++ and JavaScript, you'll find the PHP syntax quite similar and easy to use. About hosting, Xisto has already set up PHP support and MySQL databases, so it's perferct. Have fun!
