Opaque Grows A Year Older Yes, Boys and Girls It is OpaQues Birthday
bittr replied to velma's topic in General Discussion
It was the first day of winter.Opaque's mother was having a tough delivery, complications beyond imagination were stopping her son's entering into this world.Everyone thought the baby will die. Then, out of nowhere, a small girl appeared. Blonde long hair, white dress, blue eyes, walking gently, like she was floating. She touched the women's forehead, and imediately all the pain went away. Opaque just slided outside in a new world for him, and everyone stared surprised at that little boy's face, having an expression of calm and intelligence no one ever saw at a baby.As the girl departed, a weird unknown voice whispered maliciously:"The boy was saved, but he must listen to the Gods' desire. On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd December 2008 he must take 3 days of rest, gettting away from his daily duties, and commemorate this moment here now. Otherwise, HE WILL DIE!" -
Definitely MPlayer design7/news.html It's really good, a small download, free and complete. And if you like a nice user interface, you can use SMPlayer http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ SMPlayer is built exactly on MPlayer, just making the user experience a bit better. And, oh, I never had a movie that couldn't be played with MPlayer.

I tried to understand the code, but that one-liner gave me head-aches.Nevertheless, I wanted to drop in and say hi, bthaxor! I thought I'll never see you again.

C is quite outdated. I don't know how you came to the decision to learn C, but you should know that C++ (a follow-up version of C) is easier to learn, is used in a lot more applications and is excellent for newbie programmers like you. To create programs in C++ (but also in C, if you'll stick with your first option) I highly recommend Eclipse: http://www.eclipse.org/cdt/ It's a well-known IDE, it's free and it will be all you need to create programs. And a quite nice C++ tutorial: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

I have another question. I have for this month a monthly subscription for my small website, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It's the site I had previously in Credit System V2, and now I 'payed' already for November. However, I decided that after this month I will drop this subdomain and go for something.creativeriots.com Now the question. Can I do this, using the account I have now? Can I just let the previous Xisto.com subdomain & hosting expire and get another subdomain afterwards in creativeriots.com? And yes, I know I'll lose all my files, it's not a problem, I've already backed-them-up.

Uuu... Another Microsoft hater. How original, there are just some millions of you guys Now seriously, I can understand your side. Microsoft is doing some annoying things now and then, but they made computers what they are today, and they deserve their partial monopoly. If you look at polls about market shares, you'll see that Linux is still under 1% and Macs under 5 or 6.The problem with Linux is that they are a bit too complicated for normal users, and then that there are a lot of programs that don't work in Linux. The problem with Macs is that they are bastards and they have super-prices for their hardware. Yes, the design is nice, but why pay 2 or 3 times more for the same performance? That's nice about computers, you have a lot of manufacturers, there is competition and therefor lower prices. You don't know what you're talking about. ASP.net works perfectly well in all browsers.

Hey! I have a small question.First of all, I like this new system. It is a good move, Opaque, and I think you'll get a lot of good content and members this way.About my thing.I've been a member on trap for about 4 months, I got enough CENTs and I got a monthly hosting account from the Xisto - Support billing page. Now, since I have 'payed' for one month in advance, should I worry about my credits here in the forum? (I'm talking about the V2 credits)Is my site going to get suspended if the credits here run out?
-
Let me understand. First you say: And then you come to: I love it when people contradict themselves in the same post And if I'm at the criticizing part of my evening... No, you're terribly wrong. You can check the market shares on Wikipedia, they are from independent sources, all saying about 70-80% for IE. FF works on any browser? =)So FF works on IE too? That's nice... I understand why you love it now.

Yes, we heard of it, we had whole threads about it, where people were saying that it's going to kill Wikipedia, that Wiki will be no match for this and Google will own them bla bla.Of course, that was about 1 or 2 months ago. Knol is even more anonymous now than it was then and I love Wikipedia more and more everyday
-
Yes yes, everybody loves Google, we all know that. I also like them, they had some great ideas and some nice initiatives. But here we have a clear violation of protected content. They should have stressed for methods to keep the users from posting copyrighted materials. They can't hide behind the idea that it's user generated content, and it's the users' fault (which is completely wrong). It's their website, they are responsible for what is put there. If I had a website and I would let a user upload some child pornography photos, it would be entirely my fault. The same here. So, concluding, it doesn't matter who we like, it matters who is right. And Google definetely isn't.

I agree with kobra on this one. Apple hardware is way too expensive, it's like about twice as PC hardware at the same performance. And this is because there is no competition with Macs, there is only one manufacturer, so prices will keep being ridicously high.IE 7 is not that bad. I'm working as a software developer, I'm doing some web developing too, and after a day of testing things in multiple browsers, when I go home I use IE. It does start faster than Firefox, you can feel it's lighter, taking less resources.I admit it has some unintuitive things. For the problem you mentioned, your ex-IT guy should have told you to change some security settings.

Let's not exagerate.Vista doesn't eat so much RAM memory. If I start it normally, with my default services started and my gadgets, it uses 600 MB.But I have Vista Home Basic, probably you (Janissary) have another version of it.As for your questions, I don't now about turning off those confirmation messages. It annoys me too, but I didn't have time to search a solution on google.About stopping some services, go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. But be careful what you stop there. And I should add that I like Vista. I had it for 5 months, I'm not a newbie with computers, and I think it's just fashionable to say Microsoft products suck. I'm not a Microsoft fan, I did try Linux, Mac systems, and I can say Vista is ok, IE is ok, Microsoft Office is great, Visual Studio and .NET are fantastic

It sounds ok and nice, but from this first post I didn't understand a lot about how the system will work. I think you should do a full document explaining how the credits will be converted, how will we get those credits (how much the views, popularity, etc count to them) and if and how the two systems (Credit System 2.0 and 3.0) will work in paralel for the starting phase. I have specifically some questions: 1. If 1 credit will be converted to 1 cent, it means that we still lose 1 cent per day? (And in other words, that my posting for 3 months values 1 lousy US Dollar?) 2. The restriction applying when you accumulate large sums of credits (as that you get less credit per post) will be lifted? Because otherwise it's quite hard to get to 100 credit and so to have domething in your account. 3. This new system is just for people with lots of credits? I usually keep a constant amount of about 10-20 credits, so it doesn't look that this things are directed to someone like me. Anyway, thanks for the continued interest to make Xisto better, Opaque. Last added question: Do I have to register now to this new system?

Great topic. I'm sure the creator of this topic, assasinkilla (who posted for the last time in Xisto on april 2007) is not at all interested on other people's favourite animals. More than that, I can also bet that most of the people posting here don't really give a damn about other people's opinion. But c'est la vie. This is what you get when people simply have to talk about something to get their credits. And this is what I'm doing myself: participating in a non-sense discussion just for the credits. I just wish we'd had more interesting topics around here. So, without further ado, my favourite animal is........ the EARTHWORM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthworm

Really?? Then I'm sorry for giving out false information. Bluebear, and this rules about how many credits you get in each section of the forum, and how the amount depends on how many credits you already have, are they written somewhere? Or is it some secret formula? I knew about the fact that you get more credits for posting a Tutorial, but I thought that was just an exception from the rule. And if it is true the fact that the more credits you have, the less you get when posting, then that kind of sucks. Because if you gather like, more than 20, you are discouraged to post more until you get to a lower amount.

bittr replied to bittr's topic in Web Hosting Support
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!I got FileZilla and it is exactly what I wanted. For other people reading this topic and not having FileZilla yet, I can tell you what settings to use:- the Host: your site's URL (e.g.: sing-along.trap17.com)- User & Password, the same as the ones you log into CPanel. -
Website Review Required, Please and thanks
bittr replied to jlhaslip's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hi!The website surely looks like 3, 4 years old, with the graphics and the CSSs used. You (your friend) could try looking at other coaching websites, and see how they arrange their graphics and contents. Two puctual suggestions (which could be implemented fast):1. As bishoujo said, the copyright must be updated. On some pages it's 2005, in some is 2005-2006. As a general thought, there should be a common footer for all the pages containing the copyright, so the change of year would be done just in one place. But at least it should be changed for now on all the pages.2. There is a Testimonials page, accessible from the About Me page. There should be a link for it on the left menu, so people would see it and jump directly to the customer's opinions. There is nothing more important for a business website than showing that their customers are satisfied. That's about it with my quick thoughts. See ya! -
Uuuuh. It seems we have two new guys here. Hi and welcome! tollywood, you jumped directly to the "business part". Getting the free hosting is not so hard, but in the same time is not as easy as it would seem. I think about half of the requests for free hosting are rejected. But everytime is the requester's fault. I mean, the people running Xisto have just some basic requirements: you have to write in proper English and you have to post consistent posts. About getting the credit points for getting hosted, that doesn't depend on how many posts you have, but more on how long they are. You get about 0.03 credits for a word, so by this post I will get about 3-4 credits (just so you'll get an idea). gold_standard, you also jumped directly to business. "With knowledge of these technologies you can make a lot of money". Yes, it's true, but the most important part is the passion. I work as a software developer, and I've seen a lot of people trying to learn (web) programming and it just doesn't work only with the thought that you'll get a lot of money. You have to be driven by other things, you have to put passion in what you're doing, and this is how you'll progress. There are tons of people who just learn some basic HTML, CSS, PHP, see that after a couple of months didn't get any money, and lose their interest. And about the passion, you can read around here in the forums about Opaque, the creator of Xisto. That being said, welcome again to Xisto!

Hi!I've been hosted in Xisto for almost 4 months now.In the beginning, I tried to setup a WebDisk to directly transfer files from my computer to my hosting account, but I didn't manage to make it work. It might have been from my Vista's weird firewall settings, or my ISP settings, I have no idea.Anyway, I used the File Manager since, as I don't have a lot of files on my site. Needless to say, it is really annoying when I do just some little changes and I have to go again through CPanel, FileManager, UploadFile... pffffSo my question to you... How do you guys transfer your files to your hosting account?I know there are some ways. And there must be some little program you just click a button and your files are sent.So I need some hint on the program you use, and maybe some instructions if there are some weird settings. In general, I am quite computer literate, but there are some types of Internet connection settings that I just don't seem to get them to work.Gracias,Dan

Hi, Creatative!First I thought your name was something derived from "creative". Is it your first or your last name? And anyway, it's good you have a less-common-in-the-internet-world name. On most websites I have to register to, my name is already taken. That story with Aboho and the need to post 30-50 times per month sounds dreadful. Here in trap I manage to post for about 8 times per month, and I get enough credits. 30 to 50 is too much, especially when you have busy periods in your professional / love life. So, hopefully the site you'll be developing will keep you motivated to post around here now and then. It's not that much, I had a busy year in 2008 and still I managed to make it. I even upgraded my account this month. So, see you around!DanPS: I wish you luck, as ordered

Hi Gingko! I saw your site before, about 3 months ago, I think. I was a newly hosted member of Xisto, and you welcomed me on my Introduction post. So, as a comparison, it looks nicer than 3 months ago Some suggestions (if you didn't receive too many already): 1. You should remove the calendar on right, under the menu. It has no use and takes space without purpose. Instead, you could put there a list of the entries in this month, or a list of the most viewed entries. 2. I don't know how much disk space / badwidth you can use, but if it fits your hosting account, you should try to put all the pictures on your website, without the external links to other websites. I don't think you need a gallery, you don't have so many photos, but for the photos you have, if you have them on your website it's better. Imagine for example I send a friend a link with a photo of yours (full size). If the photo is hosted on your website, he might go to the home page, read more things about you and more entries in your blog. Or at least try to use only one external gallery, like the Google Picasa, and have all the photos there on your customized account, pointing back to your blog. As an overall view, you have a nice website. And this is my favourite photo of you: http://5921028109267.usercash.com/ See you around!

I think I can hate these things too :D1. Beautiful sunny day.I hate it when it's really hot, like more than 30 degrees Celsius, and I have some things to do around the town and the sun is just getting on my nerves.2. The smell of freshly cut grassI hate the smell of freshly cut grass on my jeans, after I layed down a bit on the nice grass.3. Homemade Ice CreamI hate the fact that some people eat homemade Ice Cream. Bastards! :DAnyone knows a good recipe? ;^_^4. Opening Day of Baseball SeasonThis I hate by default. I hate when people become too obsessed on teams and so on, and defend the "greatness" of their favourite teams with silly arguments.5. The laughter of a child... from your neighbours, at 1 a.m., when I am trying too sleep. Hate hate hate6. Fresh baked breadIt's too hot. I hate that I have to wait before I jump on it.

The System Doesn't Let Me Apply For Hosting Upgrade [resolved]
bittr replied to bittr's topic in Web Hosting Support
Thanks for your suggestions, guys! I finally went with Saint Michael's idea and requested the upgrade normally, without the form. It's here. I consider the topic closed.
