  1. Game Maker works for all games, I've made shooters, platformers, RPGs, etc. It's commonly thought that Game Maker games are unprofessional, but if you can get really good at it you can make some really fancy stuff with it! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ has some really polished and professional online Game Maker games, as a matter of fact, you wouldn't even notice they were made in it if no one told you! My favorite one there is Aces High Over Verlor Island. EDIT: Oh, thought I'd mention it's not MY site, I'm just giving an example, I realized I never said that in the post.
  2. Personally, back when we all shared one computer, we all just logged onto my mom's windows account, it slows it down to have multiple accounts open, and it's a pain to log them off all the time, so we just didn't bother. Now I have my own computer, so yea, it's pretty nice. Actually, I first bought the family computer from my parents, since they were getting a new computer, and guess what... I DOWNLOADED A VIRUS! Well, anyway, I have a new computer now, and I've learned from my mistake, I always use my good ol' Siteadvisor Firefox extension to make sure the site I'm visiting is safe. Anyway, I guess this would work, not really necessary, as I don't think it's unreasonable of parents to disallow their kids permission to download a bunch of junk, but it works nonetheless, and there are people who could use it, so good tutorial. Maybe some screenshots of the process would be nice though.
  3. FireFTP, one of the few FTP programs that give you the full version for free, and it's really convenient being embedded in your browser so you don't have to switch windows. (Doesn't get in your way, it stays closed until you open it using the toolbar.) Very useful, and easy to use too! I'd recommend it to anyone who is in need of a good FTP client!
  4. Personally, I think it looks nice, and it'd be something really fun to show off, but... I'm worried I'd break it, it looks SOOOO thin, it looks like you could snap it in half with your thumb and pointer pinched together as hard as you can! And what if you stepped on it, or dropped it, no chance it would survive those things! I'd be too scared to so much as rest my wrists on it, let alone carry it wherever I go, which, if I'm not mistaken, is the whole point of portability! Now don't get me wrong, it looks really cool! But I'm an accident magnet, and I don't think me and this computer would get along...
  5. That's been around for a while now... Hehe, I'm "disagreed with a lot"? I checked all of my posts and it was only once! I think you should have to get three of something before you get the little thing under your username, it would make more sense that way. I'm pretty sure they're talking about the 1 to 5 Star ratings that you'll see at the topic, technically that's the TOPIC rating system though... Maybe I was mistaken, that's what I thought when I saw this topic, but I guess it's most likely about the little icons at the bottom... Oh well... STILL! I really think it should only put the icon under your username if you get that particular rating multiple times. Know what I mean?
  6. Did you try clicking "Create a Hosting Account"? Getting the e-mail didn't help me either, as it just gave me a link to "Manage", so I'm pretty sure the activation is done manually anyway. Hope this helps!
  7. Meh, not really, usually I prefer instrumental music for myself. Though I do have Sonic Adventure 2, (Battle) and thought the music in it was alright for a game, it's not the kind of thing I'd listen to normally. It fits the game well, so that's nice. Oh, they also have some of that music in Super Smash Bros Brawl on Sonic's stage too.
  8. Google works fine for me, always has. I've been using it a lot lately and I've had no problems with it, it isn't even any slower than usual. Sounds lie your ISP, computer, or web browser is to blame for it.
  9. Interesting idea, I like it, if I were a hacker, I'd do it!
  10. Join us! Hehe, anyway, yeah, hackers stink, I'll be trying to develop my own anti hack system, so far it's not going well, but I'll keep trying!
  11. I got XNA, but I couldn't figure it out, I've been too busy to learn C++ lately, so I use GML... Maybe C++ is something that would be good to learn over the summer.
  12. Never tried AlZIP, sounds useful... But I only really use ZIP for compressing my files, and I only usually need to unzip ZIPs and RARs, with the occasional TAR, and in rare instances, 7z. So anyway, I don't really see a need to get a new unzipper when the one I have does everything I need it to... Of course, one could say the same about IE to Firefox, is this case comparable to that? Hm, I didn't know WinZIP could do RAR files, is it different from the one built into Windows XP and Vista?
  13. Yeah, and not everyone needs dynamic sites either, a lot of people are just looking for a site for their personal site about them self or their business, and 110mb is good for those things, but I usually like to have forums on my site, which 110mb doesn't support.
  14. OH! That's right, almost forgot, you could really use a different theme for your forums. The default one is used a lot because... Well... It's the default... So get a fancier one, or a custom one, if you can!
  15. The rating system has it's ups and downs, it can work well if it's not abused, on the other hand, it's often abused. Some people may rate random topics 1 just 'cause they feel like it, without even glancing at the content. Not only is it discouraging for the topic starter, but people may be less likely to look at topics with a 1. On the other hand, people could do the same thing with MAX ratings, and that can ALSO be bad. If all the topics on a page are rated the same high score, whats the point in a rating system at all? And what about the few the person missed? What'll happen to them? Maybe because they're different, more people will visit them, maybe not. My overall opinion on it is that it's a nifty feature, but it's best not to pay too much attention to topic ratings, as they can be seriously inaccurate. Also, people may give topics low or high scores based on the fact that they agree or disagree with the starters opinions, regardless of what kind of argument the starter is making. There's also the "I don't like you so I'm gonna rate all your topics one!" factor, if one member just plain doesn't like another for whatever reason, they could also abuse the feature. With all those things at play, the ratings could be all over the place whether the topic deserves it's rating or not.Of course, I've only observed this on small forums, as most big ones don't use this feature, so maybe it'll work out better here. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  16. Well, yeah... I suppose that's like if a really nice Linux Distro came out and someone called it a Windows Killer, maybe it's good, but too many people already use windows, and wouldn't feel like switching to something else. HOWEVER, I do think Firefox has the potential to dominate IE sometime in the near future, it's already way better, so unless IE8 is a massive improvement on IE7... Yeah...
  17. Aw, the site seems to be down.
  18. Sounds very innovative, I'll have to try this some time. Google DOES show some fairly irrelevant results from time to time, this might be a good solution.
  19. Whatever the case, it's back up now. Saw that host, I never tried it. Awesome web space, speed, and bandwidth, but Safe Mode and htaccess off, meaning dynamic content such as forums, CMS, etc., won't work well on it. Also doesn't sound very reliable.
  20. It shouldn't take noticeably longer to load as long as the forums are hosted on the same site, and you're on DSL or better. As for the sho0utbox, GREAT! Making your own is always the best option if you have the know how! (Which I unfortunately don't. )
  21. Sounds like a nice game, but we won't be able to play it if you don't show us a link.
  22. Don't forget that the PS3 also CAN play PS2 games, at least on the 60 GB one anyway.
  23. In general, people commit suicide because they believe it's the best option, that it'll end the suffering, and that the world will be a better place without them. The people who believe that, are in fact, WRONG. Life is a gift, it's precious, and it's not something to be thrown away when the going gets rough. As a Christian, my belief is also, that life doesn't end after someone commits suicide, and for most of the kind of people who commit suicide, it can just make things WAY worse. Even if that's not your belief, it will cause more suffering, not just to you, but everyone around you. Family, friends, they'll all miss you terribly, and if you don't think you have any, WAKE UP! Even people you think of as your enemies can suffer from guilt, a lot of people will blame themselves for a person's suicide. Maybe that's the person's intention, to make everyone feel guilty, if that's the case, it's just for revenge, and it's a rotten, dirty, and downright STUPID thing to do. For 99% or reasons, suicide is a terrible idea, yes, if you're being tortured, and will probably die any day soon anyway, I can understand how suicide might be the best option, I'm not completely unreasonable, but it IS a bad idea in almost ALL cases. That's m take on it anyway.
  24. Super Smash Bros Brawl is also missing. Actually, there's no way to accommodate every game that people would vote for, there are just too many, maybe this topic shouldn't have a poll.
