  1. The upgrades usually are invisible since they mainly update the back end and patch any security flaws.. But they also come with many new features in them, however any new feature included has to be configured by the admin.

The main thing everyone must remember about the upgrades is that the code is often changed by the developer so OpaQue has to update his code according to the new one, this process takes time.

A MyCent run was done recently so members might have received a little credit but the script is not yet in full motion so please stay seated and post as much as you can :)

Got ya. I don't think most people have issues with the delays on MyCents, so long as we're kept updated as to what's going on. It's just that sometimes it feels like everything should be working properly and they aren't, so most of the posts related to MyCents are on the assumption that it's not working as it should (in its current state). As an example, because of your post we now know that it's semi-up and semi-down.

  2.

I have to disagree with you. He doesn't look like he has a rough life driving a Ferrari. Not to mention he isn't actually fit to drive... and not because of the skills or knowledge of the regulations, but because he can barely reach the pedals. He is physically unable to safely drive. Just imagine that in a certain situation your life (as another driver on the road) may depend on his decision or reflexes. Would you drive with him on the same road in this situation? Would you trust him with your life? I'm sure you wouldn't. It's a well known fact that the main danger of driving does not come from the way you drive yourself, but from the others driving on the road. Driving is not that dangerous. Driving with other kind of drivers is extremely dangerous.

Still a bit iffy. There are really short people that drive, as well as people with no arms that drive using their feet. I don't think height is too much of a consideration, since there are ways around that.

  3. Yes, it is the worst part. Without a doubt. Hubby has been warning me for several years now, about how I wouldn't be doing that after I lost my teeth. His favorite time to remind me of that was over cheese curls, I always liked the hard crunchy ones, and he likes the soft ones that sort of melt in your mouth. And yes, now I am eating the soft ones. Last night I fried up some bacon with our potatoes and much as I love it I couldn't chew the little bacon pieces.

Another interesting thing has presented it'self during this ordeal. Anyone familiar with the condition called phantom limb pain? It's a condition where you actually feel pains in a body part like an arm or leg that you don't even have. Your brain tells you the limb is still there and you feel pain in that missing limb just like you still had it. I'd never heard of it until I meet a new friend that had lost a leg in a motorcycle accident. He had a terrible time with this condition. He even tried a study course on pain management and quite a few other things to alleviate his problem, but nothing really worked.

Anyway, as strange as it may sound, I have had at least some experience in this condition. I keep having this strange feeling that I have something stuck in my top teeth. It's a feeling I know very well, as I always had plenty big enough gaps between my teeth so that every time I took a bite of anything at all I would get stuff stuck between my teeth, and it always bugged me. Not painful of course, like actual phantom limb pain, just annoying. I never went anywhere with out toothpicks. Even had a little toothpick holder I kept in my purse. Well, now it seems like every time I try to eat something, right afterwards I feel like there is something stuck in my top teeth, which of course, are no longer there. I can't count the number of times already in the last month I have reached for a toothpick only to remember there is nothing there for anything to stick in. Honestly, I feel kinda dumb but I really do feel something there. Strange eh?

It's not really that strange when you're somewhat used to something and all of a sudden it changes. Really it applies to anything, too, whether it be a schedule you're used to (for work, school, etc.) or something you just do everyday, like eat eggs and bacon and then being put on a diet where you can't have either.

  4. Hi Sheepdog, I am sorry about the problem caused... Did you receive a notice from xisto recently? If not, what has happened is that the nameserver ips that xisto uses has been changed to new ones, customers have already been emailed about it. The change normally does not affect accounts BUT sometimes an account here and there suffers a roll back. All your data is safe, it is simply a DNS issue. OpaQue & I are working on the issue and this should be resolved soon. If any member faces such an issue, please contact support, they will update all of you once the network has been updated :) As for your invoice, if it has been paid, you don't have to do anything more. Mycents usually work in the way you described, if your account has enough MyCent, it will automatically get added to any newly generated invoice.

Is this affecting all sites? I didn't mess with my sites much today so not aware if I experienced issues as well, but I never got any notice from Xisto regarding it either.

  5. rpgsearcherz i do understand where you are coming from sometimes it is not worth going through the trouble that it is betters most of the time to let it be.

This exacerbates the problem though. The less reports there are against people, the less chance there is of getting help. If tons of people are filing complaints about the same person/group for the copyright infringement, it shows that it's a big problem. When people ignore it and move on they aren't just hurting themselves, but everyone else as well.

  6. You can actually call the police and report what had happened since you have witnesses, there wouldn't be much a problem. Please be careful on other people the next time to avoid being usedby cheaters.

This is good advice. Report it, with as many details as you possibly can. Also, in situations like this you should be able to get a new credit card from your issuer, as not doing so will allow the person to just continue wreaking havoc.

The post is a little old, but in case others read this, make sure you actually do something about the situation! The longer it takes, the more damage they can do.

  7. A day or two ago, our forums were upgraded Posted Image

I am yet to get complete information on what exactly has been changed but just to confirm, the upgrade as usual will not affect your account here or the MyCENTS you earn from your posts.

With every upgrade comes the random bug here and there, everyone is working on it including OpaQue and the Xisto - Support team. But if you come across any bugs, please send an email :-

    ANOTHER IMPORTANT UPDATE

Thanks for the notice! This should help put a lot of people at ease regarding what's going to happen with their posting.

Out of curiosity, are there any new changes we should be looking at, or is it more of a security fix? Wondering if there's features that were added, as I usually miss things like that.

  8. Well, I've never used anything but Xisto for web hosting, except the first few years I had a web site that was hosted by a friend so I'm not sure about the ones you are talking about. How do they work? Do you pay for your hosting by letting them put ads on your web site, something like what Google does with ad sense ads?

I asume by cpanel you mean control panels? (as you all know, I'm not real computer savy) So much of this jargon and abreviations go right over my head. Isn't the control panel for Xisto the spot we go to check the amount of our mycents and also to submit a ticket if something is wroung? or is there something else I'm not aware of? Afraid I might be missing something.

To answer these in the same order:

Some sites do allow you to get free hosting in return for letting them put ads on each page of your site. Before Xisto, that's what I was using. In fact, Xisto used to have the same opportunity if you didn't want to post for credits. I'm not sure if they still do or not though. Xisto is the old name for Xisto, in case you weren't here in the old days.

As for cPanel, it's one type of control panel. It's the thing we log into here at KS. There are many others though, some free and some not (like Plesk). They're all control panels, but each is different. I guess a way to relate it would be to say they're like operating systems; they can all do the same things (pretty much at least) but they feel different and have different steps.

I personally like cPanel the most, so I feel at home here!

  9. just do a whois lookup, and then contact the web host, the people have not come back to the forum post,

so I guess that means they got the issue sorted, or else just started it for a bit of web traffic,

Could also be that they just gave up. Sadly this is what happens in most cases. People get tired of doing what they feel is wasting their time, and they just let people get away with the behavior.

  10. Call them again and talk to another person. Sometimes the first person you speak to won't help, but others might.

If that doesn't work, speak to a supervisor (just ask whoever is on the phone with you to transfer you).

If that doesn't work, you then take it to corporate and file a complaint.

Usually you won't have to go all the way to corporate, and a supervisor will get you taken care of. But you need to explain everything that's wrong, along with dates and times. This helps them research the problem and better understand what they can do to help you.

  11. I agree completely. A person should be able to keep their own phone number. I could see where it would get confusing though when people moved out of an area into another one, and they still had the same telephone number that showed them by the number to live in a different area. If you were trying to call someone you would have no way of knowing what part of the country, or world for that matter where you were calling. If it happened to be out of the country, you might get stuck with one heck of a phone bill threw no fautl of your own. I unknowingly called Alaska one time, holy molly, I had a $9 call cost for just a couple minutes that would of been about 50 cents at that time if I'd called anywhere else in the USA.

Most service providers offer free long distance now though, even on landlines. So in that case the area code shouldn't matter too much, and instead only the country code would matter (which in the US we can ignore anyways).

I know with VOIP you can carry your number wherever you go. For example, my grandparents still have their phone number from another state (and use the out-of-state area code).

  12. Really! There isn't even a fraction of the amount of posts now as there was when I first started posting here. I just don't get it. Nothing has really changed here, we still have good people, good topics and if they ever get started, some great discusions get going, and the economy sure isn't that much better that nobody cares about free web hosting anymore! Makes no sense to me at all. And right now I'm in the same boat that I was in last month, only 2-3 days away from when my web hosting is due to be paid and I don't have a clue as if I have made enough posts to pay it this month. Once again it has not updated for quite some time and right now I only show $3 in my account.

I'm going to be in the same boat soon as well. With the decrease in posts, and the delay between updates, it's making it harder and harder to keep up the hosting. I used to have no problems knocking out a lot of posts due to the sheer amount of new content we had daily.

  13. I don't think the age is such a big deal, as long as he was trained prior. There are farmers' kids that learn how to drive at very young ages, and you can even get a "hardship" license at 14 in a lot of states.

If he had just tossed the keys to his son to go have fun, or his son learned via driving games like Forza, I can see the problem. But there's a definite possibility he already knew how to drive before this.

  14. Man, eating has become a real nightmare too. And that is what is really killing me, as eating is one of my favorite pastimes. Turned out that steak was tougher than a pine knot, and a few nights later we even tried some pork shoulder steak, which is nearly always very tender, and even that package turned out to be so tough I could hardly eat it.

This is probably the scariest part of it all to me... knowing that at some point I'll likely be forced to change eating habits and no longer be able to enjoy things I do now. Not to mention the whole teeth removal after eating and such.

  15. Without any doubt, Adobe Illustrator. Pen Tool of Coral Draw is just so pathetic :X

I'll toss out my vote for Adobe as well! "If you're going to do something, do it right." Sure, it costs a bit more than other programs, but when it really comes down to it, you're getting top of the line quality.

  16. No, your not confused at all. When I started this thread I posted for 5 consecutive days with out a my sense update. It was really worrying me because I had no idea if I was close to having enough for that months hosting. And now here we are again, a week away from my date that they money has to be in the account to pay the hosting bill and the credits are not updating in any matter with any rhym or reason. I got an email the other day that I had been credited $1 but when I got the email I hadn't posted for quite a few days. I have no idea what is going on. It sure makes things hard to manage.

Yeah, with the small number of people we have posting now, I don't think the system should have an issue with "rolling updates" (updates as soon as a post is made). I could understand there being a problem if there's thousands/tens of thousands of people posting at once, but the site has been dead/dying for quite a while, so the number of posts is small as it is.

  17. Wow sirspdif that was a really good explaination. I'd believe you worked for the phone company with that good of an explaination and great details.

Really a person should be able to keep their phone number no matter what telephone service they use. Especially in the case of business, like mine which has been in operation with the same phone number for probably close to 30 years. You never know when a past customer might like to get in contact with you. They thre is all the money you spend on advertising and having your phone number put on business cards and other forms of advertising. It would be a disaster for me if I had to change my number.

This is true, and I'd say it stretches to personal numbers just as well. There are people who have used the same number all their lives, then move or go living out on the road. In situations like this (changing carriers or even going landline to cell), it's still important for family/friends to be able to contact them. Especially if it's their only form of contact.

  18. Situations like this suck, and the worst part is that there are diseases you can't protect from that will cause tooth decay as well. I know of people who brush/floss after anything goes in their mouth but water, yet still have had to have all their teeth pulled. And others that never brush and have no problems.

That's not to say it's not worth still taking care of them, just that you may still come up with problems, :(.

  19. This stuff is pretty cool. I actually just recently (a week or two ago) looked up the dog one again to show my siblings. I didn't realize that he can throw things now, which is a massive step forward. The others you linked to I didn't know about either.Another robot that's worth watching is the Honda ASIMO. I'm not sure when its last update was, but it exhibits human-like movements and can walk up stairs on two feet with no other support, run and other stuff. And supposedly it learns as well, in regards to communication and such.

  20. I would like make a suggestion for the upcoming changes. It is an update to the MyCents system. I start from the basic idea that the forum has value if it has active users, so I would change the MyCents system in order to better reward day to day posting rather then many postings done once a month or once every two months. It doesn't have to change the current working system, but just to give something extra to the people posting every day while still keeping with the quality of the posts and everything else. On the other hand people posting a lot very rarely should take a loss. I would loose from such a change since I do not post every day, but it would be an incentive for me and other users to do so. Once again with the rules of quality in full force.

This is an excellent idea, and I agree that it would help foster more posting on a regular basis, rather than just throwing up a lot of stuff weekly/monthly. It could run on the same system/calculation now but add in the extra benefit based on posting x times within x period (ex. if 5 hours < posttime > 24 hours, grant bonus).

  21. Hey, thank you for helpful info here. I have a qestuion:For my WordPress site I started to use Simple Press forum plugin when I opened the site (it's for people I know). Then I realized it was really slow and inconvenient and decided to switch to phpbb forum for the site.I wasnt able to embed Phpbb forum into WP using wp-united because of the theme I'm using. But it seems to me that I got some connectivity using PHPBB Single Sign On WordPress plugin it enables users to login to Phpbb using WP and the other way around. So now new users that register on Phpbb forum are automatically added to WP Users. However, old users can't login into Phpbb forum using WP username & password. To add to that I use Visitor Maps and Who's Online plugin in WP and when old user tries to log in to Phpbb they show up in Who's Online on WP side but can't login to the forum.Do any of you know if that means that old users login to WordPress when they try to access phpbb forum? In other ways, would all new users be able to login into WP (if I say create something) using their Phpbb login info?Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know enough about that plugin, sadly. Usually the SSO's will copy users to the new database when you try to log in with an existing account though (ex. if you are using WP as the master and phpBB as slave and then you log into WP, it'd copy your existing account to phpBB). Is that not what's happening here?

  22. Thanks rpgsearcherz.

I can find the txt-bx in style.css but not sure which file contains the code for input box and 'label for="signup-user-name"' area,".

I can find this code using firebug. Would you know how to find in which file this code is written ?

Once again many thanks for your input.

    regards,

It looks like you got it all fixed on my end. If not, both of the things (input box and label) are inline, so they aren't in a css file. They'd be in whatever file is handling the actual signup for you.
