  1. If you woke up and tried to go to starbucks and there was a man with a gun telling you that you couldn't wouldn't you be pissed off? This is unfortunately the situation we've put these people in; They have no other choice than to revolt if they wish to keep their way of life. I watched "Bush's War" on Frontline the other day. Truly amazing program, easily the best Frontline special I've ever seen. It showed how we went from fighting terrorists in Afghanistan to invading Iraq based on lies and irrational evidence. The most surprising thing is how aware these people were of the fabrications. How could we not have learned anything from the Vietnam War? Occupying a foreign country and impressing your own values and culture on people that you have no understanding of is a bad idea. Our mission was to take Saddam out of power and remove all WMDs. The reason we wanted Saddam out of power was because of the fact that many believed he had a hand in Al-Queda/9-11 as well as the fact that he was thought to be in possession of WMDs. A link was never found that connected him to 9-11 and it was very obvious after the invasion that the evidence of WMDs was skewed and fabricated. This truly was Bush's war, he had probably considered going to war with Iraq ever since his election. The thing that truly pisses me off though is fact that the 9-11 link was attempted because it could use the War on Terror propaganda generated by the attacks to its advantage. If you made it a case of patriotism you had virtually unlimited support. Exploiting people in favor of imperialism and false philosophy sounds like a dictatorship, doesn't it? I mean aren't we trying to give the Iraqis a form of government that allows them to decide? Allow them to have a say in the decisions made by their government? This mess of a government has already become so corrupt it can't even stand on its own two feet. I don't know a solution, but while 18 year olds with no other options are being sent to die, we don't have time to think of one. It's time to fold, cut our losses, and pull out.

    Organized Religion

I think often people believe in a community more than the actual religion at hand. I don't believe in any type of god and I don't think organized religion is necessary; however, it isn't going anywhere any time soon. The catholic church has always been corrupt as hell but it doesn't really matter, it's been the foundation of catholic faith for so long it'd be impossible for it to go away. I really felt like the church I grew up going to was really superficial None of the people cared about me personally, they just thought they should be friendly because they were "good" christians. I don't really respect the idea of being a good person because you think you are supposed to be.
  3. If you request for them to take you off of their list they legally have to. Be as rude as you feel the need to, they don't have any consideration for what you want. It's a lot of fun to mess with them, like putting a telemarketer through to another telemarketer. Anyway I always just say, could you take me off your list because you just interrupted my dinner and I have no interest in your product. I still get a call every year or so though, but most of the time it gets rid of the really pesky ones.
  4. I've died in my dreams before and have been told a bunch of times this is psychologically dangerous, but I never really understood why. I love the feeling of realizing a truly horrible dream was nothing more than a dream. I don't think a dream has the ability to instantly kill you, but maybe it caused you to do something that kills you in your physical environment. Interesting question...

    Abortions

People are constantly saying that if people are having sex they have to accept the responsibility of having a kid. However, people don't and you, me, nor anyone else can change that. The choice to have sex is impulsive, people don't stop to think, "I bet unprotected sex is a bad decision." Given the fact that kids are sexually mature at the age of fourteen, they aren't ready to accept that responsibility. The first step is helping kids be aware of safe sex alternatives as well as contraception methods. The second, and hopefully not needed if the first is available, is abortion. To say that everything deserves a chance to live, you have obviously never heard a meth baby cry. My mom has been a social worker for a large portion of my life and her stories as well as me visiting her or simply hearing the babies crying on the phone makes you sick. Saying that all life is precious isn't fair when you consider how much pain this baby is probably in, or how many women would have their lives ruined without the option of abortion. It shouldn't be and isn't a common way to prevent an unwanted situations, but it most certainly should be available as a last resort. And what about rape? I don't care if the child deserves a right to live, the child isn't even self aware until the third trimester. You kill cells on your hand by accidentally scraping your finger against a wall, isn't that the same thing? What separates the two? If you're going to tell me that the baby has the potential to be a human being then why does it matter if this human being is the product of violence and terror. Think of the mother, you're going to force her to have the kid of a man who raped her in order to fit your ideals? Conservatism doesn't make sense sometimes >_<
  6. Honestly, the one thing I realized as I got older is that a good education and good grades don't always go hand in hand. As I went through high school the experienced teachers that everyone from previous years such as my brother and such loved, were gone replaced by teachers that knew nothing of quality teaching. All of my teachers especially my AP Biology teacher senior year had very little experience. My AP Biology teacher taught us a third of the material we needed to know, and with insane amounts of studying I pulled off a four on test. She was a nice person, but was put in a position where she could not be as adequate as her predecessor. I had a 98% in the class the entire year and never studied and copied all of the homework. Had I had the previous teacher I would have struggled to keep a B- yet the old teacher was one of the best in southern California. If I suffered through her class I would have learned more and been more prepared for college Biology considering its my major. I think that the school district pressures the good/old teachers to retire so that they can have the less experienced ones at lower salaries. I was tahnkful for my easy A but thinking back I do kind of wish I actually got an education on the subject. This constantly happened my entire life, considering most of the good teachers were pretty old when my brother had them. That's why I hate school, it's entirely subjective. I had a 4.8 at my school, but like I said, I probably didn't deserve it as the kid who actually tried as hard as he could for his grades. The whole thing is messed up, supposedly colleges are starting to look less at GPA and more at the student as a whole, but what the *BLEEP* does that mean? Honestly, will a student who got a 4.2 and had the hardest teachers in the state look better than me even if they look at our records? I think not, I believe that this kind of reasoning is impossible and it is also impossible to make the school/college system fair. I really can't think of solutions to these problems, but they have to be there. In response to the people that simply hate school because they don't want to go, stop and realize that if you don't better yourself now you never will, and you will be useless to society. The kids that get kicked out of school for failing all of their classes and then fail continuation school too seriously need to realize what they are doing to themselves. People are not that stupid, they just don't care, and that's the biggest shame. How can you not realize how much of a detriment you are to society if you just go through life doing the bare minimum. I don't understand the point of just trying to do the very least. Anyway, to sum everything up I think school is important but in no way fair. It doesn't offer the same thing to everyone, but people need to reap the benefits of what is offered. Considering we have education for everyone, not taking advantage of that is just hurting yourself.
  7. I fixed it, I just had to keep trying to delete it. Thanks guys!
  8. It's a folder within Templates and Joomla created it when I uploaded the template. I can't delete it in file manager, and every person I ask simply tells me to contact administrators. Thank you very much.
  9. For some odd reason, one of the folders in my template folder cannot be renamed, deleted or edited in any way. I simply get the error 550 Rename/move failure: Permission denied upon trying to do any of the aforementioned things. I can download everything from it just fine, but as soon as I do anything to write to it or delete it, it gives me that error. I'm 99% sure its a glitch in the host because I've tried FileZilla and SmartFTP only to yield the same results. I have also tried using the file upload script on my control panel. A quick google gave very little insight and most of the people were just told to contact their administrator. So, thank you very much, and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I believe something along the lines of permissions needing to be reset was one of the solutions I read about. Thanks!
  10. I personally think that schools have no rights to read the myspace of teens simply because it isn't their business. I personally had a friend in high school that posted a bulletin about one of her peers and was expelled for the things she said. She was pissed off but they simply made the case that what they were doing effected her in school. The things she had said about her peers were all true, and simply telling them that it wasn't related to school did nothing. In retrospect, I really wonder if a lawsuit would have gone anywhere. However, the girl I knew simply took the consequences and the worst thing I can remember reading was that she said that the girl cheated on her boyfriend. Which she did. But that was the main reason why it went so far, because of sexual harassment and things of that nature.Anyway, I guess this story is somewhat different because the conflict was initiated by the victim going into the office and reporting everything. I don't know how much truth there is to them actually reading myspaces for insights into their students or employees. Then again you always have the option to make your profile entirely private, which I remember many of my friends opting to do back in the day. I simply don't use myspace anymore because facebook has all of the things I need, and is way easier to use.
  11. Kind of an old thread but, holy crap this game is incredible. I think it is the best First Person Shooter I've ever played. You think the reviews are an exaggeration until you actually take down your first big daddy. This game revolutionizes the genre in ways thought not possible, and meanwhile delivers an entrancing atmosphere that really anyone can enjoy. I have never been scared by a single horror movie and there were multiple times in this game when I got goose bumps. Sure, the vita-chambers make the difficulty overwhelmingly low, but we are in the midst of a video game revolution. No longer are games about doing a level 80 times until you can get through it without dying like we all did in the late 80s early 90s. It is now about allowing gamers of all abilities to experience everything a game has to offer without being punished for making mistakes. I cannot point out a single thing wrong with this game, and want to play it again as soon as I can.I have a philosophical question for anyone who has played this game. Who's to blame for the fall of Rapture, Fontaine or Ryan? It's highly debatable and there is no right answer, I'd love to hear what everyone here has to say. My response is that Andrew Ryan was naive to think that people would not want to contact the surface. Even if he did anticipate them contacting the surface, he did not expect a smuggler ring to capitalize on people's wants. Fontaine did exactly this, he took advantage of Ryan's flawed system. Andrew Ryan was a man of ideals, and the entire game is a tale of ideology versus practicality. Ryan's ideals weren't practical, and Fontaine could take advantage of that in a way to benefit him. I don't want to spoil the game for anyone reading this, but Ryan realized this because he didn't try to stop you. And everyone who has played this game would agree he could have. Another good question I talked to my brother about is, was Adam ultimately good or evil? I personally compared it to heroin and cigarettes in the way that people were so hopelessly dependent on it that they were going to steal and kill for it. The same often occurs with heroin, and sometimes even cigarettes. I believe that Adam was ultimately evil just because it created this horrific addiction and caused so many problems and suffering in rapture. The thing that Tennenbaum didn't realize was that even though it had potential for good, it was destroying the people it was used on. I mean look at the splicers, all they want is Adam. Anyway, tell me what you think... I'm in love with this game.
  12. I've already gone at it with truefusion before in an entirely friendly way, but here I go again. There is no god. We are organisms evolved from a single celled protozoa that was synthesized through basic macromolecules. The big bang just happened, there was no creator, it just was. Just as you believe your creator just was. Everyday more and more is explained through science, refuting evolution is becoming less and less reasonable. If the bible cannot explain to me why the creator just was, then it cannot contradict my beliefs of the being bang just being. Humans are the handiwork of evolution, and after 3.8 billion years we are finally intelligent enough to understand that. There is no right and wrong, black and white. Only gray. Reality is entirely subjective. Nothing is ever certain because people have their own interpretations of everything. Take the OJ Simpson trial, ten people were taken and asked what happened and ten partially or dramatically different stories were produced. I believe humans are by nature good, and want what is right for everyone. I think that it is in everyones best interests to better ourselves.
  13. Is it just me or is it annoying how girls will never say what they are thinking? In my opinion, the vast majority of girls love to be guessing in a relationship and constantly play games. Every single time I get close to a girl I start to like her, and I make myself vulnerable. However, I have this tendency to treat girls I like too nicely. I usually interact with women by making them laugh or teasing them because that's just my personality. But once I really start to like a girl I change subconsciously and become very concerned for their well being. I was really crazy over this girl last year and we went out for a month or so, and eventually she ended it. I think that this is because of how I treated her, she most likely got bored of it. Lately I've been consciously trying to be much more casual around girls I'm seriously interested in, with varying degrees of success.Sometimes I just tire of constantly playing the game. Can anyone relate? I mean when you first meet a girl and you're trying to impress her or just plain get her attention. I usually can say the right stuff and get what I want the first few days I meet a girl, but further down the line is when I start to mess it up. I start to show how much I care and girls don't want that. Women are terrible people. They want to be treated poorly and won't admit it.That's my vent
  14. I have personally never been able to wake up from a bad dream even if I'm aware of it. In the dream I often try to force my eyes open or stand up but it never works. I think that's really cool you can do that, I wish I had a command over my dreams. I used to dream about being able to fly and I would just fly all over the place for a couple of hours and then wake up. Now that I'm older I don't really have that many nightmares, even though I have had a few in recent memory. When I was I dreaming a lot about flying or whatever I had some pretty intense nightmares, some where I even died. I heard it's a really bad sign psychologically is you die in a dream but whatever . Anyway, I will definitely try shouting NO! next time I'm having a bad dream.
  15. I watched my Grandpa die on a respirator who was a World War II veteran, and that was his excuse to picking up smoking. I see people smoke at parties and everywhere else and I'm always wondering the same thing, why? I honestly would never smoke cigarettes just because of the traumatizing experience I described above, but it really did seem like he had done it to himself. He always excused himself as starting when he was in the marines and he would quit if he could but can't. I guess I have sympathy for those who are addicted to the point where they can't control it, but it's dumb that people start in the first place. I'm guessing most people started casually at parties or with friends, and I think it's inexcusable to become addicted when everyone is so well aware of the danger of smoking. To the guy who said I hope you quit for personal reasons and not because of peer pressure, I think you have a lack of understanding about the people around you. I can't remember if you said you smoked in your post but very obviously if you do there have been people who told you to quit. They pissed you off? Well what was the reason they wanted you to quit? I know for a fact that my mom had begged my grandpa to quit smoking. She didn't do it to annoy him, it wasn't "Peer Pressure", she just didn't want her dad to die the way he did. I still remember him begging my mom for a cigarette a week before he died in the hospital. Nicotine is a terrible, terrible drug. There is no excuse for starting unless you didn't know the consequences which makes you and idiot or you simply don't care about them.I don't mean to seem like anti-smoking radical, but that's probably how I come off. I have a bunch of friends that smoke cigarettes all the time, and I never give them *BLEEP* or anything because I know they know what they are doing. I honestly just really have to wonder why anyone would want to try it.
  16. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone around here has successfully installed Joomla on their Xisto web space. If so, what was your solution to the session save path dilema? I attempted to make a custom php.ini with no luck and also attempted to edit the htaccess.txt file. All of these solutions yielded no result, my session save path is still not set, and I can't properly install Joomla 1.0.13. Should I try using 1.5 RC4? I doubt that would matter, any advice or help is greatly appreciated .Edit: Feel free to close this topic, I opted to use fantastico and it is brilliant, thanks Xisto!
  17. I downloaded PHP 5.2.0 on my home computer from their site just so that I could get a copy of php.ini to edit. I added my own values on top of putting in Xisto values to be as in sync as possible. The script I was trying to use in my first post does this automatically. The original topic I received this information from was from Xisto about two years ago found here.
  18. I downloaded php 5.2.0 because that is the version installed on my webhost. You see, PHP allows you to load your own custom php.ini file, so I wanted to to configure my own. My dilemma, as previously stated, is that I can't use any of the MANY scripts written for this purpose, Import the main php.ini and put in your values for the things you want to change on the fly; This is simply because the php.ini is fully hidden from users, I can understand why in some instances, but I'm not trying to change the values for everyone on xisto, that's silly. I only want to be able to use my own values for the php.ini, I understand php.ini is a file shared to everyone who is on my server, I was just wondering if any help could be given in properly utilizing a custom php.ini script. I think my solution is to simply use phpinfo to find all of the values for Xisto's php.ini file and edit them into the php.ini file I downloaded with php 5.2.0, considering that unfortunately ini_set seems unresponsive. Thanks for all of your help, I have been on Joomla forms as well and I assure you bothering the good folks here with my problems was a last resort.
  19. There is, however, no way I can use a script to read the php.ini file and edit it on the fly to create my own php.ini? Doing it manually is extremely inefficient . I just wish there was a way I could edit all of my settings separate from individual scripts. Is it at all possible that the session.save_path option could be set to tmp in our root public_html directories? Is there a security disadvantage for not doing so? Thanks for the response, I love Xisto and I'm sure I will find ways around these problems.
  20. Ok, so I tried to install Joomla but there is no save session information. To confirm I used a phpinfo script to discover that this isn't set in my server's configuration. So, after searching these forums for how to create a custom php.ini, I found a nifty little tutorial and script to do this. However when I run such a script, I can never access the php.ini file. In another thread from about a year ago the administrator offered to CHMOD the php.ini file so that it could be temporarily copied to the main public_html directory for use. Is there anyway someone could do this for me? If not, I downloaded php 5.2.0, and began the tedious process of manually changing all of the values to match the phpinfo from my server when I realized that even if that did work I would have to do it again if Xisto upgrades to 5.2.5 or simply changes one of the values in the master php.ini. Thank you for everything, and advice would be extremely helpful. Thank you.
  21. I think suicide is wrong, and I think preventing it is also important. People constantly tell me that people will turn around their lives and decide that this is the wrong way out. However, this isn't always the case. Someone close to me has been suicidal for three years and still threatens to do so regularly, and I don't even think it's a serious threat; perhaps it is just a basic cry for attention. Anyway, if I hadn't let people know she was trying to kill herself I have no doubt she would of; I don't think I could have lived with that. It's funny, I started typing this post with the intention of explaining why preventing suicide is a waste of time and then began to realize how I would feel if that person was dead right now. I guess if I'm against capital punishment I have to be in favor of preventing suicide, so yeah; suicide is terrible.
  22. LX 350 by LG made for sprint. Bought it summer of 2006, and was going to get my 24 month upgrade when it broke... Now I have to pay 75 extra dollars for a new phone I don't want yet; I really wish I hadn't broken it. It sucks that the iPhone is only GSM and sprint is only CDMA, I get hella discounts through sprint, so they're my obvious choice for service provider. I do want a iPhone however, I really wish it supported hotspot VoIP instead of using minutes, one of the features I think is the coolest new thing in cell phones. I constantly chewed away minutes while sitting next to my router
  23. Grand Turismo is hands down the best racing series ever. I say this even as an xbox 360 and Forza motorsport 2 owner, including my force feedback steering wheel. I would do terrible disgusting things to play Grand Turismo with my force feedback steering wheel, unforgivable things. Personally, I just don't like the way everything feels in Forza, I know this is kind of a broad statement, but the game has always had this off feeling. I received everything as a gift and decided against taking it back, I'm just praying a better game comes around that I can use my expensive hardware with.
  24. Gmail is amazing just because of the huge amount of storage. I mean honestly six gigabytes just kicks *bottom*. Hotmail used to have ten megabytes which can't even compare! Think about it, no other email service has come close to rivaling Google's monopoly on email. I love the applications you can use with them too, I love gDrive. I can use it to easily network with my friends and send files to them with ease. The ten megabyte file size limit is easy to dodge too, it's as simple a splitting your file into rar archives that are 9.9 mb. While it is against their EULA and they do let you know if you are using too much bandwidth it has only happened to me once when I backed up my entire harddrive. Hotmail has a crapload of advertisements and limited space, much much less efficient. The only gripe I have with Gmail is their privacy issues. They have been under scrutiny for including advertisements that absorb information from your emails. Some even went as far as accusing google of stealing their credit card information. I never thought any of it might be possible until I found gmailiscreepy.com or something to that extent. Anyway the whole purpose of the site is examining the Gmail service and proving the privacy problem. There are some extremely creepy passages in the aforementioned EULA as well, some even suggesting you don't have right to the information in your email.
  25. Kucinich is just way too radical to be realistic, even though I really like his social policy. Right now, my favorite candidate is probably Hillary as much as I hate to say it. I liked Obama for a long time but he simply doesn't have the foreign policy experience. Hillary, after being first lady for eight years has had great deal of experiences in other countries, unlike Bush who had never left North America in his entire life when he entered office.Ron Paul is someone who my brother supports a great deal, but I don't neccessarily support self liberty to the same extents. Paul, who is a strict constitutionalist, bases the majority of his belief on self freedom, which in many instances can be dangerous philosophy. A perfect example is gun control, which Paul apposes, because he relies on the stance of the constitution. The right to bear arms was intended to allow US citizens to overthrow tyranny, and something like this is ludacris in 2008. While there is little statistical evidence that gun control effects crime rates, it doesn't make sense to say we need them to overthrow tyranny.
