  1. Thank you guys for the responses. It's nice to have little neat scripts like these on hand.
  2. I can see where you are all coming from on this issue and I indeed agree that there is much danger in performing such genetic manupulation. The only argument that I am truly opposed to is this: I'll be quite honest wgn_white, I'm not particularly religious (but neither am I an agnostic/athiest). I honestly don't believe in trying to argue about something using God as a source or justification. One could easily say that if we are "playing God" by manipulating genes, then this is just another way that He forged us in His image. Aside from that, one can never know what God (if he truly exists) allows something. Obviously we are able to do it, so it's not like God is putting physical restrictions upon us. That being said, we should look to reason, logic, and the humanity in all of us to make decisions and figure out whether or not things are right. Such a method is (I believe) much superior to looking to a supernatural entity for guidance.
  3. I really like the theme. Did you download it from somewhere or make it from scratch?P.S.: The mouse prank is genious.
  4. Always nice to learn little tricks like this. Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for the heads-up. Question: How could you modify this to display random images instead of text (obviously inside page, not title).
  5. Last time I had a XAMPP install, it didn't run very well. I also had Skype at the time. Maybe this was the problem. Thanks for the info, I'll try to redownload XAMPP and use this 'fix'. Hopefully I can finally get it to work.
  6. Thanks for this. I often install programs for one-time use and sometimes I get too lazy to uninstall them. It really agitates me for some reason when I open up the start menu > programs (already cluttered as it is) and see ten or twelve randomly highlighted entries. Hopefully this will fix that.
  7. Any time I've skipped class, I've always had a backup semi-legitimate excuse, or just feigned ignorance if I was caught. For example, I skipped a couple of classes after Advanced Placement exams in my junior year of high school, and when a teacher asked where I was, I told her that I thought we were off for the day after we finish exams (like 3 hours long). So fortunately, I've been able to get away every time.
  8. "One More Magic Potion" by EnsiferumFolk metal is amazing...
  9. I've seen this show. I think it was called "How William Shatner Changed the World". Very interesting indeed. Back on topic, as much as I personally would like for space travel to become a possiblity, I doubt that it will happen in my lifetime, or for many years after. Saint_Michael did a great job of listing many of the reasons why this is so. An Antarctic colony on the other hand can be done.
  10. I must say, that regardless of medical or ethical implications, this does look pretty cool. I'm not going to really take a stance on animal experimentation either because I can see both sides of the issue. All I will say is that while there is (unfortunately) some abuse and cruelty that goes on in labs, animal experimentation has led to numerous valuable advances in different areas of medicine which have positively benefited human life. Whether that is really worth the cost of the animals experimented on is something I will not delve in to.
  11. Very nice indeed. It is so much more pleasing to the eye, and it functions pretty well. My imaginary hat goes off to you, good sir.
  12. Python really is incredibly easy to learn, especially (as crazyfray said) if you have some previous experience. There was a point where I looked at a Python tutorial for an hour or so and at that point I could basically program anything I've ever done in C++ (stuff learned in a high school course) using Python. The truth is, that any language becomes fairly simple to learn (NOT master) if you have the basic concepts of programming down and are somewhat familiar with another language. That being said, Python is probably the easiest to become accustommed to after switching from another language. It's incredibly simple to use and you can customize the way you write code (through certain language statements) without compiler aid.
  13. Well, my eyes are green and I get a lot of compliments about them, so I'd like to stick with them. That being said, I also like blue, but just about any eye color can go well if the eyes have a 'personality' behind them; intense gaze sort of thing, or deep emotion, etc (not meaning that the person is overly emotional, just meaning that the eyes are expressive).
  14. I had never heard of AEF before, but it looks pretty cool. Might just go ahead and give it a try. Thanks for the detailed tutorial; the internet could really use more like this one.
  15. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the game. I tried it and it was alright, but it was too realistic for my tastes (that, and it's a [almost] cost-free advert for the US Army). But I do have to agree that it is very well made and for those who like realism (in terms of team tactics/strategy) nothing else can really compare.I haven't tried Warrock yet, so I can't comment on it. However, from first impressions, it looks really fun.
  16. The scene really isn't that bad. My twelve year old brother sees much more sex and nudity on primetime television than he would see playing Mass Effect. Singapore's government is just rather conservative when it comes to such issues as sex. That is why the game has been banned. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of other countries like Malaysia follow up with such a ban (not saying that they're going to, just that it would not be surprising if they did).
  17. Now this is interesting news. I can relate to what FLaKes and Colten are saying. I too wish that I was born at a time when actual space travel was possible. So many interesting possibilities...
  18. Thanks for the brief history lesson. It's always nice to know little trivia like this.
  19. I'm on 1024 x 768 @ 60 Hz. I don't see much of a difference between 60, 65, and 70 Hz (at least not on my screen / video card) so I just keep it at 60.
  20. Interesting indeed. Time to download and try it out for myself. I hope it's as good as it is claimed to be.
  21. I heard very good things about the book from a friend, and when the movie came out she said "Come on, let's go see it!" Unfortunately, the movie was a failure (had one good dragon fight scene and that was about it). Still, I might pick up the book sometime and read it. I just wish I hadn't been so disappointed by the movie.
  22. I agree with Mailoreothoriel. I loved the fight scenes (even though the story was basically Cloud being emo). The Bahamut and Sephiroth battles were my favorites. Plus, is it just me or was Yuki pretty ugly in FFVII but REALLY REALLY HOT in AC?
  23. Aesthetically, the green gives a little shock to the eyes at first but I got used to it within a few seconds. Your forum certainly has a different look from any other that I've seen before (that's a good thing since it means that it's very unique and doesn't look generic). I'll make one other small comment on the graphics though, the color of the search area seems to clash with the look of the forum as a whole. It just kind of sticks out against all the white, black and green (at least the way I'm seeing it with rendering by the Opera browser).Other than that, I like it a lot. It's very clean and crisp. The sudden shock of green is, again, a little distracting at first, but nothing too big. I'm just curious, did you build this forum from scratch or did you use a certain system to get started with it. I'd like to know what language(s)/system(s) you used in creating the forum, if that's okay with you.
  24. I prefer Opera over all the others that I've tried (IE, Firefox, Netscape, MSNExplorer and others). It really renders fastest for me, takes up least memory (with an occassional glitch that makes it hang) and the guys working on it try VERY hard to comply with all web design standards. In this way, I think that it renders proper CSS and XHTML the best way possible as compared to the other browsers. I personally hate IE because it is ABYSMAL at rendering CSS. IE likes to do things its own way so lots of elements are sometimes repeated, shown in the wrong place, or not even shown at all.I also like a lot of Opera's features, notably the custom search engine keywords you can make for the adress bar. For example, (by default) typing 'g Xisto' automatically takes you to google with 'Xisto' as your search query. You can add more support for more search engines very easily. For example, I can type 'wiki (search term without parentheses)' and it takes me to the wikipedia article for the search term. I also have this implemented for ebay, amazon, and a host of other search-type engines. So yeah, Opera is my favority web browser, and Firefox would be my 2nd choice (which is why I have it installed as well).
  25. I've recently gotten interested in expanding my programming horizons. I know a bit of C++ and am working on Java right now, but I also want to get into Python and Ada. I've found great Ada tutorials online but the problem is that all the compilers they suggest I work with are either no longer being supported (and they have bugs in them), or I just can't find them on the net anymore. Does anybody here who have any recommendations as to what compiler I could use for Ada? Link would be appreciated as well.
