Add Favicon To Your Site Creating, Converting to icon, Setup
iGuest replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I thought I may as well list Linux (Fedora Core 3) instructions to creating favicons. What I will be using for this: KIconEditor png2ico Now we don't have to use KIconEditor, we can use any Graphics program that can create .png file formats, I just used KIconEditor, as it was pretty basic and was suitable for this. run kiconedit This program is used for creating KDE Icons for the KDE Graphical User Interface (GUI), and is an excellent program to use for what we want, it can create both 16 x 16 pixel and 32 x 32 pixel file sizes as well as whatever other sizes you want to specify, but since we're creating favicons, we want to create a 16 x 16 pixel sized area for us to work with. To do this: Click on Edit in the menu bar, click on Resize near the bottom, change both sizes to 16, e.g. 16 x 16 and now click on OK. We now have an area to work with, it might be too small to see, so using the magnifying glass with the + (plus sign) to enlarge it to a suitable size so that you can work well with it. I decided to create a simple floppy disk, I filled all the squares black, created the metal tab with a silvery grey and added a while label, with lines, I also marked out the holes with a light colour, white will do. Pretty simple wasn't it? Check out My Favicons Area under floppy to see how it turned out. Now all that's needed is to save the file. So click on the Save button or browse to file save, default selection should allow us to save the file format as a .png image, if not, choose PNG Image as the filter and save the file as favicon to your home directory. Now to convert it to an icon. We can now close KIconEditor, as we are now finished with it. Open up terminal, it should automatically start you off in your home directory. Now all we need to do is to issue a simple command: png2ico favicon.ico --colors 16 favicon.png After executing that command we now should have a favicon.ico file in our home directory, what is left to do is to upload it to your web server in your root directory, fill in the HTML for it and be done with it. For more information on png2ico, just do: man png2ico And that will explain the major use of that program. In short terms, basically what that command did was take the name of what we wanted to call it, specify how many colors we are using, default is 256 colors but we only wanted to use 16 to be safe and more browser compatible and then we told it which file we wanted to convert, and hey presto, done. Well that's all for now, Any comments or questions, please feel free to ask and be sure to check out My Favicons Area . Cheers, MC -
Reason 1 bush went to war becose he said that the intel told them there were Weapons of mass destruction that was reason number 1 and it was a lie cos there where none. reason 2 is mostlikely terrorists when they didnt find any WDM the war became a war against terrorism but the oil was just one of the things that is on the hidden agenda of war. Every war has an hidden agenda there is always a reason that isnt known to others.Reason 3 the land became a threat to america and bush realised this after the twin towers went downbut thats what i think so please correct me if im wrong

http://blakadoodles.2itb.com/home.html is your site right? 1. Loading time is not bad on broadband, but then, the main image on your site appears to be 900KB on my browser (I may be wrong), which would take an age to load on dial-up. 2. Navigation is a bit of an annoyance having to click three buttons everytime you want to visit another page, and having a pop-up ad come up everytime you visit a page is another annoyance. 3. Macros are a bit unnecessary. Simple layout is effective though. Despite the annoying navigation, I think the navigation system is quite unique , I've never seen it before...Get a image-editing program such as adobe photoshop to optimize your images to smaller file sizes.

I like the old superman movies, there is no superhero like superman!

I've got to agree on that Bernie Mac show. It is original and this guy is just funny by nature, he doesn't even have to try.

Open water. I wasn't really looking forward going there. A bunch of people being lost in an ocean, that can't be too much of a thrill to watch. But somehow it kept me intreged and interested during the entire movie. I would recommend it. Not on DVD, but in cinema...

It's not a bad series, but imagine there be no beautiful women involved. What's left then?

THE HOLY BIBLE: most ancient and most modern--How Come?
iGuest replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
I don't think the bible is all that comforting. Many parts are outdated adn don't give the people in this day and age the opportunity to be who they can be and want to be. -
I took the time to read your post, not because of any of the reasons you included in your e-mail, but just because I like to read. It is fun, just like making your own website or watching a good movie. Wasting time doing something fun isn't wasted time.

I prefer the second over the first, the second looks more complete with the single colour scheme...7/10 for second and 5/10 for first.Your avatar looks a bit disjointed though?

The last film I watched was Die Hard With A Vengance last night at about 8:00. Although I haven't been to the cinema in about 3 weeks; last film I seen on the big screen was Aliens v Predator. Which was better than I thought it would be.Hopefully I won't be disappointed with the next film on my list, The Forgotten; but theres a lot of other films released or soon to be released that I particularly like the look of.

Hello! My ISP impose internet traffic limit. And it is very short limit. I generate traffic in any upstream/downstream comunication, obviously. I'd like to load some stuff to the FNH that is on the internet, and if I download it and upload it, I'll be doubling the traffic. It would be a great thing to just transload stuff directly to the FNH. Plus, it would spare me a lot of time, because my upload is very slow too. I can't find any tool on the cPanel that do the job... I wonder if you can provide something like a script that implements "downloading" stuff into the FNH.Thank you!PS- I've search the net for such service, could find only one site that would transload from any place to any ftp, but the service seems to be down. For an alternative, maybe someone can tell me about some sites that make transloads.

You mean "immoral, liberal, God-fearless modern American" values like gay marriage I suppose. Here in Belgium it's legalized and I'm happy to say that I'M PROUD OF IT.I believe someone can be against it, but it has to be possible for other people. What do you care if someone marries that way? It doesn't hurt you. It only makes them happy.

There is one thing that nobody wants to know about:We cannot ever reliably prove anything metaphysical, and murphy's law screws us over when it comes to phisics.Think this way. There is no infinity, a kaleidoscope can only make so-and-so amount because it can only have so-and-so atomic-level arrangements. The universe cannot be proven to be infinate because noone has even been to alpha centuri.EDIT: Hey! I'm the first on the fourth page :)Or am I? lol

Seems you dived into the deep end without checking out the changes, there's licensing issues with MySQL that PHP thought they would play it safe and not include it anymore, but they will still support it. php_mysql.dll goes into your extensions directory, it's an extension. php5apache.dll is a module and can go into your modules directory or you can link it from wherever it's located. With PHP5 you have to download some of the extra modules, since not all of them are included with them, make sure you have these and have unpacked them into your extension directory. I had a tutorial here on how to setup a web server on your own computer, but it seems to have been removed. Maybe I'll rewrite it, but I think I'll do a more stable server than a testing one, as a lot of other programs written for PHP4 aren't ready to convert to PHP5 yet.\ Hope this helps, MC

that's a lot of scripting. I'd go for the "not advanced enough" option. And there seems to be a number of sites offering free hosting as a trade back for # of posts. Some other site (not referring to this site) was requesting 50 in 20 days. Heheh. That's ridiculous. People consider that as a good "trade off". I consider that as a rip off.If one has been in some quality community and have posted thousand of posts, one would be aware that quality postings are hard to find and a lot of activities within a week or a month even is sometimes difficult to generate provided that we all have our own lives. It'd become tremendously difficult to make posts when one 1) isn't in the computer business area 2) has important jobs, 3) has family and kids, or 4) non-mainstream age, etc.But anyway, this kind of trade offs are becoming more popular, so I suppose it's considered potential business for these communities. Perhaps, because it's new, there hasn't been a well developed automated process that integrates registration with "monitoring" users' activities (sounded so much like Big Brother). But in the future, it's not a surprise if these business start to adopt this method.
