Check out this site & upload yr vids, animations etc. or watch alot of weird cool stuff online "Online and late night: they are the two aspects of the entity that is ZeD. In its late-night incarnation, ZeDhostess Ziya Tong drops tight and original live music, dance and spoken word performances by groundbreaking artists; frontline indie-culture reportage by a crew of cross-Canada video correspondents; intimate chats with culture creators who are making a stir; and innovative short film, video, animation, music, words, performance, ideas and, visual art pieces from around the world. On the Web, ZeD is where over 18,000 global members meet, collaborate and upload their creative work-currently, over 16,000 genre-expanding pieces. A lot of what you see on TV five nights a week is drawn from the best content on the Web site, while most of what's original to TV (like our live performances) can be seen afterward on the Web site." http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

"Set 2,000 years ago (3 rd century B.C.) as China was in the process of being united by the brutal conqueror Qin, who would eventually become the first emperor of China, the film opens when a minor official, Nameless (Li), seeks an audience with Qin after having killed the three assassins that have been trying for Qin?s life for years. Qin accepts the audience, then asks Nameless to tell him how he killed three such skilled warriors. Nameless then recounts the story of how he disposed of Sky (Donnie Yen of Iron Monkey), and two lovers, Broken Sword and Flying Snow (Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung), super-skilled assassins who are hiding out in a calligraphy school. Broken Sword is fiercely protected by his prot?g?, the young and beautiful Moon (Zhang Ziyi). Thing is, Qin doesn?t believe Nameless, suspecting the story is not a simple as all that. Sensing a different motivation in Nameless? act, the future emperor tells his own version of events, based on his observational evidence. In fact, the legend of Nameless, Broken Sword, Flying Snow and Moon is told in four different versions, "Rashomon"-style. Each different section features a bold color scheme. In Nameless? version of events, each costume and set is in blood red. In Qin?s version, the costumes and sets are in blue. In the version that is a compromise of the two, presumably the most truthful version of events, the design is all white. There is even a lovely green palate during a flashback sequence. As one would expect when one of the world?s great directors and one of the world?s great cinematographers are teamed, "Hero" is indeed a visual feast. The fight scenes, choreographed by Ching Siu-tung ("A Chinese Ghost Story," "Swordsman II") with the help of flawless digital technology, are truly impressive ? especially the early showdown between old fighting pros Li and Yen." "Prolific writer, who is considered by many critics as the most important Japanese novelist of the 20th century. Mishima's works include 40 novels, poetry, essays, and modern Kabuki and Noh dramas. He was three times nominated for the Nobel Prize for literature. Among his masterpieces is The Temple of the Golden Pavilion (1956). The tetralogy The Sea of Fertility (1965-70) is regarded by many as Mishima's most lasting achievement. As a writer Mishima drew inspiration from pre-modern literature, both Japanese and Western. ... The largely autobiographical work reflected Mishima's masochistic fantasies. His preoccupation with the body, its beauty and degeneration, marked several of his later novels. Mishima wished to create for himself a perfect body that age could not make ugly. He started body building in 1955 and he also became an expert in the martial arts of karate and kendo. Perhaps preparing for his death, Mishima liked to pose in photographs as a drowned shipwrecked sailor, St. Sebastian shot death with arrows, or a samurai committing ritual suicide." http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

By Zhang Yimou. 1987 "Red Sorghum begins as a memory, being told by an unseen narrator, of his grandmother. She was, we learn, a poor girl who in the late 1920s was sent by her parents into a pre-arranged marriage with a much older man. The good news was that he owned a vineyard. The bad news was that he had leprosy. The girl thoughtfully slips a pair of scissors into her blouse before being borne off by sedan chair to meet her husband. As her party makes its way through a field of sorghum, it is attacked by bandits. One of her escorts fights off the assailant, and then slips away into the fields - only to accost her the next day in a raid of his own. But she is grateful to him for having saved her life, and they make love. Time passes. The leper dies, and the young widow takes over control of the winery, which has fallen on hard times. She inspires the workers to take new pride in their wine, and once again meets the man who saved and deflowered her. He now is an alcoholic, who gets drunk one night and urinates into a vat of the wine. But somehow his urine serves as a catalyst, and the vintage tastes better than ever before. All of the events up until this point in the film have had the feel of a twice-told fable, an old family story passed down from generation to generation. Then "Red Sorghum" takes an unexpected turn into realism..." http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

aka A Lei do Mais Fraco; Pixote, Survival of the WeakestThe Brazilian Pixote so closely resembles the films of Luis Bu?uel that one is almost shocked to see writer/director Hector Babenco's name on the credits. This is hardly the only shock in this near-hallucinatory cinematic experience. The title character, played by Fernando Ramos da Silva, has been abandoned by his parents and is scrounging for a living on the streets. Pixote survives by becoming a drug-dealer, pimp and murderer...and he's only ten years old. One of the first films to address the plight of Rio de Janeiro's street kids, Pixote combines stark realism with symbolic imagery. The film is based on Jos? Louzeiro's novel Infancia dos Martos. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide1981 - Brazil - Childhood Drama/Coming - of - Age/Urban Drama/Juvenile Delinquency Film

Set in 1870's New Zealand, Utu is a film about revenge. Utu is a Maori word which means justice, Maori justice. Te Wheke (Anzac Wallace) is a Maori who serves as a Lance Corporal in the colonial army. A new strategy of "controlling" the natives has been put into effect, that of surprise attacks on small villages where everyone is killed and the village burned. Te Wheke comes upon such a scene, after the attack, and finds his entire family has been slain. He turns and kills the nearest white man, a fellow soldier. He vows to seek revenge for his murdered family members and sets off an uprising that the colonial forces seem unable to quell. Te Wheke and his band of revolutionaries use guerilla tactics to evade the army and build increasing support for their movement. It's hard to imagine a more frightening sight than that of Te Wheke, face fully tattooed, eyes wild, with his tongue flicking in and out of his mouth (Maori style) as he approaches his victim, hatchet held ready. While seeking revenge from the white man, the rebel Maoris also realize that they must dissolve past tribal conflicts that have kept the Maori groups warring with each other. Now, with a united cause, they must examine their own warrior culture. Anzac Wallace, who plays Te Wheke, was a first time actor and did a fantastic job with the role. Supporting cast were all excellent, especially Bruno Lawrence who plays Williamson, a man who tried desperately to defend against Te Wheke and his men while they destroyed his home and killed his wife. He goes on his own vengeful mission to kill Te Wheke. http://www.1worldfilms.com/utu.htm From: "Waiheke" "A note for pakehas: The word "utu" has a more balanced meaning than "revenge". It is well-translated as ""lex talionis", or the law of "an eye for an eye". It has something of the flavour of a Golden Rule; "only do unto others what they did unto you." The important thing is that genuine utu was fairly honourable behaviour."
