  1. The ThinkPad T40 I received for my birthday came with Service and Troubleshooting guides which are very thorough and a Windows XP User Guide. Within minutes I was connected to my office network and accessing the Internet. No configuring was required. Wi-Fi connecting is just as quick provided you have your login information ready. The full size keyboard made entering information and working on documents no different that working on my desktop. Too often laptops have significantly smaller keyboards which require a period of adjustment and too frequent errors to work smoothly in a quick time frame. The IBM ThinkPad T40 demonstrates that portable doesn't mean compromising on the size of the keyboard. IBM also provides International Warranty Service which is geared at mobile workers traveling outside North America. Before leaving on your business trip be sure to check if you will have coverage where you are going. Go to the IBM web site - http://support.lenovo.com/us/en and click on the Warranty Lookup icon. What I liked most with this laptop: - IBM provides options for restoring the hard drive which are separate from the OS. The Rapid Restore program will restore the hard drive back to an earlier state - which makes it easier on mobile workers to troubleshoot problems. - IBM Predesktop program which allows you to access information for additional troubleshooting. This laptop is well suited for mobile workers and the design certainly supports working in a mobile environment Even though these laptops are quite expensiv, they are robust! So get one! Cya
  2. Have you ever heard of the linux operating system? Well suse linux is a distrubution of it. It is one of the best in my mind, and cheap to buy. A good site to buy it is https://www.amazon.com/ Also a good reference for linux begginers is this site:Lunetix reference site When you are on it, click on the download link to get a free copy. Have fun making your linux skills better!
  3. userpasswords2 is also available for WinXP Pro, I don't know about Home edition. Verified by myself, since I use it quite a lot as well for auto-login and resetting administrator password. There's a tool, that will enable it to appear in the Control Panel, though I can't recall it's name, I don't use WinXP on a regular basis.Cheers,MC
  4. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ site is a very good html starter website.The girl who designed it explains everthing so easily, that nearly everyone should understand.She gives lots of tips and links to other sites. And she tells what software is good to use for making a website.She gives script examples, and doesn't spam her own website full with useless stuff.Give it a try if your a newbGo visit:lissaexplains.com;
  5. Nearly everyone knows google.Ofcourse! But if you live in the uk or somewhere, you get the.co.uk google site!Google inc have brought out the new google video! But this is not on every google! Its only on google.com the really .com!So go to a google site and on the bottom there should be the go to ....com or.net google. As soon as your on the really google.com, there will be the google video new sign. just click on that and you can start posting or searching videos. You can also download the google video player for free. I think its useless, because you can see videos anyway on the site live.So have fun if you didnt know about this yet.!!
  6. There are always left over files on your computer when you were surfing the web, or doing other things. Im not going into detail about that, but there is a very good freware trial programm, called ccleaner. This programm can not only delete these files(sometimes more than 50mb ) no, it can also repair parts of your computer. If for example a programms picture is still in the start menu, and the programm itself is actually gone, ccleaner will delete the pics properly! No hasty work needed. Its easy stuff.Google this to find the link.Enjoy!
  7. In this post I am going to give you a tip on which multimedia players are the best. The vlc player, is a very successful and useful programm. It will play much more video and music formats, which others like windows media player won't. Itunes. Nearly everyone knows itunes. Its used to upload music to your ipod, or to hear music. Well itunes is quite good because of its music store built in. Using a sort of internet browser in it, it will show music you can download from apple.com for cheap prices such as 1 euro or 10 for a big album. So in the end, if you have both of these players, you will have all you need to listen to good music and watch good movies.
  8. If you want the google site to block more sites, then you will need to go onto the google site. Then go onto preferences. There you can change alot .For example the language it should search for only, or if the result window should be seperate, or how many results should be displayed per site. This window to change preferences is very useful!Have fun!
  9. There are many different domain services, that supply domains for free. Dot tk for example give you a .tk web domain for free. Though there is lots of advertisments on it.An even better domain for free site is .de.vuThis is a german site, though if you understand a little bit of german, you can get yourself through to getting a free .de.vu domain with no advertisment at alll?!!! Oh yea this is good.remember you need to become member and give them your email etc.So in the end a real .com domain for 50 cent or even less is really cheap and more efective. So I hope you now know more!Cya
  10. I want to announce the mofunzone gaming website. This website has many schockwave games which you don't need to download. You only have to click on the links which will automatically link to the shockwave game. DON'T forget to download the newest shockwave player. This website also has a good site interface. That means the graphics are good and the site has little bugs. I would give a 8.5 for this site.Have fun!!!
  11. I use :1. Opera2. Total Commander PowerPack3. Acrobat Reader4. Photoshop5. Notepad for short notes6. Download Master7. ICQ
  12. I have all piracy....Windows etc.
  13. So here we go:First make sure the dirrectory on the other computer in your network is free to the network. To free it, right click on the folder or harddrive, then properties and then the seconde option(i have a german computer so its freigabe there but it should be something like network free folder or something...youl find it easily)Then fill out the requirements including to give the folder a network free folder name. After all that, you should be able to go back to your computer and remotely access it.(dont forget to leave on the other computer!!!)Now go to start/network surrounding(or something like that)sorry my german *BLEEP* computer!!!and open it.Then add a network ressource(link is in the left menu of that directory)and go through the instructions again. Youll have to give the directory place (computer\blablabalb\dir)In the end, make a shortcut to this folder on your desktop and you will always be able to click on it if the other computer is on, to access and see the remote files. If you need some more help, email me under-penguinhawkk@hotmail.comGOod LUck
  14. Well since you're working in Add/Remove Windows Components (I assume). Why can't you go back in there and see the ones you actually removed. Removing IE does not cause this problem as I've also removed it (well Windows like to pretend it's removed even though you can still run it). So it's got to do with the other ones you removed. You should be able to re-add the ones that you removed, and hopefully this would restore them back, you should not need the CD, the files should still remain on the computer cause XP is sloppy at cleaning up.Cheers,MC
  15. Hmm... If you're thinking of using PHP, then it's possibly because you want this information to also exist online in a webpage? Otherwise depending on your Visual Studio programming (what language by the way?) you could just do it within that program and create a desktop application for it or even use it to write the page to put online. Many ways to do it.You say there are already these calculators, if there's any particulars ones that you know of do what you want (select as many of them as you like). Then it'd probably help me understand what the aim of this idea would be to do and I might be able to help with telling you how to go about it and whether the language you want to use would be suitable, etc.Cheers,MC
  16. Actually without installing additional tools you just open Start | Run and type 'control userpasswords2' which will pop up showing a list of your users, you click on the one you want to automatically login, then you uncheck the box at the top (on linux so not sure what it says) and then it'll ask you to enter the password and re-enter it and that's it, auto-login.Cheers,MC
  17. Ok, I admit it - Im totally pants at writing coding, but I have decided to give it a go!What Im looking at doing is using php (think its php, anyway!) to pull details from a high score list of an MMORPG I play regularly (runescape, if its any help - http://www.runescape.com/) and into a mini application to calculate the number of times you have to do a particular skill in order to increase your level. However, as I have pointed out, my coding skills are virtually non-existant! :-( I know it can be done (as there are other calculators out there that can do this task, but I would like to give it a go for myself), but as a coding noob I really dont know where to begin!Anyone got any ideas? I was hoping to use MS Visual Studio to do the coding work, and I can set up all the forms etc from there.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  18. only $1,800, it would be much more expensive in the U.KThe things you listed don't really seem to make me go like > Isn't this materialism?Wouldn't you rather be promised Jannah(heaven)?Bye the way the things you listed are pretty good, i got a 48" (i think) plasma screen t.v for 1500 pounds
  19. If you're searching for a way to send via SMTP, then I guess you don't mean the mail() function as you would find tonnes of information on that. There's an alternative way, using PHP and sockets to connect to the SMTP server and send the commands that are requested by the SMTP server, the problem however is that most SMTP servers are set up to not allow RELAYing of messages from outside without SMTP authentification that you are actually an allowed user to use that SMTP server, reason being many SPAM mailers could use these servers to distribute their mail if they were not secured against it.If you want to find ideas, look for SMTP via Telnet methods, and then learn PHP sockets to do the exact same thing, as the method is just the same, except you're using PHP to do what you would do in Telnet. You will probably also need to read the RFC on SMTP so you can understand how verification and authentification is done, as well as limitations on it.Cheers,MC
  20. Hey haitamlong, MS Access is quite slow in my opinion and is not really in the league to compare to MySQL when it comes to the web. It would be better if you compared MSSQL to MySQL. However there are some things you should know, if you're developing software for desktop use in a Windows environment then either use a very light database like SQLite because of it's size or MS Access because it's file based, there are also others out there (I prefer SQLite). MySQL is not easily distributable and not suitable for desktop because it has to be installed and it's not small enough for ordinary users. However depending on the size of data you'll be expecting, then maybe a more scalable and larger database should be considered. To use PHP with Access, you use ODBC connection methods. Here's the PHP Manual section for ODBC: http://php.net/odbc And here's a few tutorials, the first one is probably more complete but it's about MSSQL but the difference is you'll be using MS Access Driver instead. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And this one is about MS Access: http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_mysql_intro.asp Cheers, MC
  21. I think what he's actually referring to is what he's learnt about PHP.He's talking about the connection method used in PHP to connect to a MySQL database, not the actual storage of a password. If you do mean the actual storage of the password, it is most likely never stored in plain text in your database. Usually it has been converted into a one way hash in which it is near impossible to break the encryption. The only viable checking method you have is whatever plain text they entered when converted into the hash can be compared and if the hash doesn't match, it's the wrong password. But what I think you're talking about is the PHP way for connecting to a database. Usually your password is in plain text but it's within a PHP file. As long as the file extension is of that of PHP, the connection code exists within PHP tags and the server is configured correctly, they should not be able to gain the password, however there are many ways they could gain the password but this is no easy task and I would not want you to be paranoid about it either. Some best practises is to create multiple users with specific tasks for managing only specific database commands, never use a root or a user who has full access (GRANT ALL) for connections. My beliefs however is root users should never be able to do what normal users do (well more specifically in the same way), that's for anything, including forums, tagboards, etc. I think they should be designated in their own administration place, where they can control what they do, but can not log into a user/member area and be just like a regular user.If you can only have one user, then restrict him the minimal actions he's allowed to perform and restrict him to only a database he can access. The easiest way to do this is to create a user with no actions allowed and add him to a certain database only, then test a script out with that user and you'll get an error stating what the user can't do, adjust that user to be able to do that, and continue testing until there's no more complaints/warnings. Hopefully that will discover all the actions early, but sometimes you'll discover them later on down the track but hopefully by then you'd know enough PHP to understand what commands are needed so you can stop with the trial and error testing. If you are concerned, then there's also PHP encoding software, but I don't know of any that are available freely (there could be though). What this does is scramble your text but still makes it possible for the server to decode it and read it as if it were plain text. That way if a password was stored in plain text, the actual file when encoded would look like goobly gook to anyone who managed to get hold of it, though if they spend enough time with it, it's possible they could managed to decode it because the algorithmn is usually a 2 way encryption which means it can be decoded, so if they understood how it was encoded, they'd definitely understand how to decode it too.And just while thinking about it, you can also encode everything in MySQL, so if they did get into it, it would appear the same. But the most important thing, don't store sensitive data in MySQL. There's no reason to store whole credit card numbers, or even part of the number, validation of the card should be done straight away with a reputatable credit company and the purchase done at that time, so there's no reason to store it. Once used get rid of it, the user is going to have to insert that number again if they want to make another purchase.Other things is, if you have to store sensitive data, then store it in a network that can't be connected to via the internet, though not possible for everything, then store the information in a different database with a different user to the one controlling the other database. If possible, make sure to change passwords on a regular basis too. There's actually so many things you could do to make it harder for such an attacker to get in, but the more things you introduce, you could make it difficult for yourself to keep up with, so don't go overboard with it unless you want to spend a large deal of your time with it. Trust me, the best thing you want to do is be 1 step ahead of an attacker not 100s of steps.Cheers,MC
  22. Nice write up, but I have to disagree with it security wise. What you failed to do was insure that the form posted is actually that form being used. I could create a form and send it directly to that page and it'll be processed as long as it fits the requirements of having $_POST['submit'] set which is simple enough. Now how would you actually verify that what this script is processing is indeed the allowed form?If you want to give it a shot at writing that up, then you should and I'll tell you whether it's correct or not or better can be improved. As for processing the form within the same page being the "best" method, that's debatable but I won't go into it, I prefer talking about and finding "best" practices but never claiming them to be the best method in using, but as long as they serve their purpose well and do not create too much server load, it should be fine.Just some syntax problems, you should always quote inside arrays ($_POST, $_GET, etc) if the key you're refering to is a 'string'. What you've done with $_POST[submit] actually tells PHP to look for a key within $_POST with a constant called submit, when it's not found it'll produce a warning, and then tell you what it attempted to use, which might be the 'string' next which would be correct in it's assumption, but if there was no 'string' in that array, then what would you expect? I think it checks for variables next, but I'm not sure, I haven't actually looked at the ordering that PHP checks undefined variables and constants.Another thing you forget to do is actually check whether $_POST['username'] (and the other variables) is set before using a evaluation condition, so again you could be calling an undefined key inside $_POST which results in another warning message.Because you call trim() so many times with the same variable, you may as well create a variable for it that's trimmed already so you don't keep repeating the trim() function everytime.Let's evaluate your regular expression now, how many email addresses do you know start with _ or - or numbers as a first character? It could be possible, I did read the RFC on this and wrote a pattern based entirely on what the RFC stated but I altered it to be more realistic since the RFC was quite flexible and allowed things that most emails created now would never allow. Also, at the end, you expect emails to end in either 2 or 3 characters, you can now have email addresses that end in .info .govt etc and they will not be allowed in your pattern.Anyways, I hope you do provide solutions to these problems including in your form, as you must check variables are set before using them, so those variables also will result in errors when you first appear on that site, as they would not exist yet.Cheers,MC
  23. Hello Mark ... could you please quote the part it says so? Because, like Vyoma pointed out, this is only a self-extracting zip file, no more no less. I'm glad I have such a trust-able reputation . ----------- Actually, yes. A member on another forum kindly presented a link to the ZIPPED (.zip) version on his own server. I didn't mention it since I didn't want to cost him too much of his bandwidth, since he's hosted on a free server. But since some can't download the .EXE version, and some don't trust it, here it is. Just please, download with moderation. If your system supports downloading .exe files, please do so. The .zip link is: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Cheers.
  24. I thought about using the build-in rotator in Joomla!, but I honestly couldn't be sure whether it was alright, TOS-wise. But since you use it, pyost, then I suppose it's worth the time to try to understand the built-in rotation system . Thanks a lot for your kind offer. I'll be sure to ask you if I run into problems. Lol, hopefully, you won't regret that offer .
  25. Naturally, there are many ad-rotation plug-ins for almost every CMS around. But I'm wondering whether there's a certain plug-in recommended for rotating between the ads of Google AdSense, AdBrite, Clicksor, Amazon, etc., in such a way that it won't violate the terms of use of any of those advertisement services. If anyone knows about such a plug-in, it'd be VERY HIGHLY appreciated . Thanks in advance!
