I had the same problem with a house guest. I would attempt running battlefield to against her LAN connected pc. Seems there are a few options ~ packet shapers - see wikipedia article and download netlimiter on each machine, then set kb upload & download for each machine. This will restrict your sons machine to slow torrents or MSN or basic web browsing (no video/audio). A roster if probably a better way tho - allocating different nights for each PC. . . unplugging is harsh.

IBMs are durable and outlast other brands, but thats the main reason most businesses choose them over the competition. Having to not buy new computers ever couple years is key to most major businesses. Anyway, if your looking for more of a entertainment type computer, your better off with another one like dell, hp, or sony. As for the gateways...well they're a giant pile of faulty wiring. I'd look at some official researches or reviews.I think there needs to be a place where you could test computers with the software you are going to use to pick the best specs...but whatever.

Norton Anti virus drastically slows down the computer. I just purchased Norton Anti virus 2008 and it slowed down my computer so terribly that I had to uninstall it. I suggest Norton anti virus must never be used.

Hooray, nero burn problem sort-of solved (in case anyone else encounters this problem)! - on 11/26/07 I bought a new sony DRU-190A, & also bought Nero8 ultra at Fry's, & tried a copy disk from the dvd to the recorder, which, the pdf manual says, writes the image to the HD for LATER burning to a new dvd. unfortunately, I left for an hour, & upon returning, the crt says "burn complete", & I found it had actually written over (and so ruined) the to-part source lecture dvd. I called nero tech sppt & they verified that yes, after nero reads the copy of your source dvd, it opens the dvd drawer with the source dvd in it, and displays a message like "you have to minutes to remove your source dvd & put in your blank destination dvd". nero apparently (according to the tech I spoke to) doesn't see the need to warn you that if you're absent at this juncture, the copy process proceeds normally, and nero assumes you've switched the dvd's & it closes the dvd drawer & begins to write over the dvd in the drawer. the method nero's tech sppt reco's for this is smartstart, rip&burn, copy disc (from rt mddl menu, not left panel), new compilation, etc. (BUT, can't find the new compilation menu)so don't turn your back on nero if you're a newbie !-karl Strube

I have this probem, but found refreshing the page a few times fixes this. The REAL problem is server side, if the power saving is active at al the HDD stops spinning, when a web request comes in, it takes a while for the HDD to spin-up and the system/pagefie to transfer - too long for the web browser.-theceaner

I'm Canadian) in grade 9 and 10 then I had a job in grade 11 and they cancelled my Spanish class and got kicked out of my house so I left school for a semester... now don't even feel like getting up in the morning school is so depressing. AND homework ..if not homework than PROJECTS and ESSAYS.Enjoy school while it lasts? You've got to be joking at least when you're working you get paid, you know money AND work only lasts so many hours your boss doesn't send you home with HOMEWORK everynight.And you're not complaining because you're taking courses you LIKE obviously you chose them... you're good at them ... smart people usually like school because it's easy and they have nothing better to do than homework. Plus the amount of time you spend on homework depends on WHAT you get for homework and HOW MUCH you get honestly my homework could range from 1-10 hours if I have projects for all(5) of my classes. When you do get projects it's not like you're other teachers say "you know what, since you have a project you don't have to do this homework" in fact sometimes the teacher that GAVE you the project gives you ADDITIONAL homework to complete. HONESTLY. SCHOOL is TOO long.. I'm not talking hours either I'm talking... years, if I lived in England I'd be in my second year of UNIVERSITY, not my last year of high school. Half the rubbish we learn in school we're not even going to remember, unless we really want to.
