It all depends on what you want out of your site. If you simply want a blog and pretty much nothing else, I would recommend using Wordpress. However, if you want to build a website with a blog as its main features, you should use the CMS. I have heard different things about different CMS software, so I recommend that you decide what CMS is the best at http://www.opensourcecms.com/. I have heard good things about Joomla, but I would check out more than one CMS before you make a decision.

I really don't like the idea of a phone crashing (it WILL crash because it came from Microsoft). I sure hope that they provide some sort of cables to hook it to the computer and an installation CD. Also, there would also be a new breed of phone viruses, which we have never seen before. It better have some sort of warrenty because I am sure the actual components of the phone are going to fry as well (remember the problems with the Xbox 360).

Yeah, G-Mail scans your e-mails, etc. for keywords and you get offered spam that way. But not in the way of traditional spam. They use Google Ads on the side of the screen. It's kinda nice, not to mention that you can get more relevant ads that way. It works out well.

Name A Trick That Your Pet Does That You Find Unique/funny
tigercat replied to velma's topic in Home & Garden
I've seen a dog, and it was hilarious, who when you point your finger at him, make your hand look like a gun, and say "bang, bang!", he plays dead. It was hilarious the first time I saw him. -

I've seen cats who do the lick and chin thing all the time. My cat does. And my cat also sits on his butt and lays on his back all the time. He also has a habit of knocking over that water dish. And he also has an annoying habit of sitting in the litter box as a hideout. It's kinda gross, needless to say. But he's a good cat. He also, get this, likes water. If I leave my bathroom door open, he'll sit in the tub. And the one time, we gave him a bath, and he liked it. The only time he didn't like it was when we were taking him out actually. There I think he just liked the warmth. When I call his name, he comes, when I throw a ball, he fetchs, so sometimes I think he's more dog than cat. And the one time, he saw his reflection in the window, and he freaked out. He was just swerving his head around to see if the reflecion would follow. It was so adorable. I died laughing. My cat's a good cat, but more than a little weird. He also has a habit of sitting in the chair next to me when I'm on the computer. And he's fascinated by the printer. And, best of all, he likes to cuddle, curl up in a ball in your lap, and fall asleep, occasionally licking your wrist while he's laying there. Hence my official declaration: adorable, but weird. Any thoughts? -
Don't count google out just yet. They have a variety of business going for them. Their search engine is the most used search engine in the world, they have their a chat service, their own e-mail setup which filters spam by scanning for keywords, they own youtube, they have their own mapping system, they have their own satellite pictures of Earth (Google Earth), Google Apps, and more! So don't be so quick to knock google out of the competition with it's GPhone.

I do not know if this is true, but I heard that the Xisto - Web Hosting staff will move your entire site for you if you decide to host there. I also believe that Xisto - Web Hosting funds Xisto, so thanks for supporting this site. Also, you click the Xisto link and then click Xisto - Web Hosting. The Xisto link just brings up a bunch of links.

I am another one of those webmasters, who bought an IPB license. When I bought the license, I thought it was worth it because their was nothing else out there. However, a year later, I noticed that my support expired. It wasn't a big deal because the perpetual license I bought, which was available at the time, offered unlimited updates. I was not happy when I realized that I couldn't access their modification forum. I do not think that their modification forum should fall under support because most of the content is contributed by other people. I have never tried MyBB, but if it has the features of Vbulletin, I might have to do a test install for my friend's forum. I really recommend that everyone stay away from IPB no matter what. Matt lied to everyone, who used IPB back in the 1.x days. He said over and over again that the forum would be free. As soon as 2.x went out, it was an unlimited trial. They also charge $25 EVERY SIX MONTHS for updates. That equals $50 a year, which doesn't include updates to their other software, unless you buy their Community Suite, which does not include their download manager. Charging for updates every six months is wrong and far too expensive. Even Vbulletin has a better update system ($30 per year). In addition, they have a "business license" to trick people into paying them even more money. IPB doesn't really offer features above and beyond what some of its rivals offer, so it isn't a good deal. I just hope that Matt, who is the owner of Invision Power Services, ends up getting burned for lieing about the cost of their software. He probably originally made it free to get publicity and always intended to charge for it.

Punbb Free, Light, and Effective Forum Software
tigercat replied to tigercat's topic in General Discussion
My friend and I have not had any problems with his board being exploited. Besides, we tested phpBB, and we did not like it at all, although phpBB 3 looks like it has promise, so phpBB is going to be an option when it goes gold. I don't know much about MyBB because I have never used it. -
I love the "Age of Empires", especially playing death matchs, as I'm terrible at Campaigns, but I do agree that a lot of times the objective is more of a hassle than it's really worth. So instead, I usually just throw together a death match, and usually build up huge empires, until it gets to the point that my opponent(s) are huge enough to wipe the East Coast of the US, at which point I build up my army and attack. I also like to go into Death Matches and just use cheats to either finish them off before they even start, or let my opponent build up and then I use the cheat for a Cobra car, destroying my enemy within about ten minutes or so, depending on how many chats I decide to use. And for those of you who think cheats are lazy, it's not a constant thing, bnut it's just kind of relaxing, especially after a long day of dealing with annoying people. It's quite stress relieving to blow up a medieval town with a car. How odd. Any thoughts?

The marvels of technology surprise me to this day. Like my new MP3 player for example. It's a 1 gig, and it's smaller than my index finger. Or my newest phone, is like half the size of my old one, with a camera, more features, and four times as much space for downloads. iPods are mildly annoying in their marvel. They're tiny, but hold so many songs. Like the iPod nano, which holds 1, 2, 4 or 8 gigs depending on the generation. The marvels of technology amaze me. It makes me feel old not just to remember cassette tapes, but to own a cassette player and cassettes. And I know someone who has a cassette tape from Christmas morning in 1976 back when she was a little kid and got a tape recorder for Christmas. How far we've come.... To go from bulky cassette players and VHS tapes to MP3 players that are so small you could swallow them. Odd. It almost makes me miss the good ol' days. Almost, but not quite.

Take Gmail all the way. A friend of mine has had gmaikl for over two years now, and he said it's the best thing he ever got. Gmail has it's own chat system, unlimited inbox storage, and many many features, including starring important messages and archiving messages that you don't want to delete, but want out of the way at the same time, and.... It's just amazing. Truly amazing. Google made a great thing in Gmail, and I've heard nothing but good things about it, so.... :XD:

Also, honey is the only food that naturally never spoils. How strange. And the home remedies are kinda cool. Thanks Archangel_Baw, for posting them, and thank you whoever wrote them for, obviously, writing them.

There was a time when I tried, not to quit consuming caffeine, but cut down, and it worked out fairly well actually. I usually get my caffeine from soda, and for a week or so I tried something. For every can of soda I drank, I would ave to drink a bottle of water (two bottles for a bottle of pop). It actually worked out fairly well, cutting my intake in half. I felt better, and there was more soda left in the fridge The only problem was that soon we ran out of bottled water, so.... But while it lasted, it worked fairly well. I usually only went for the caffeine when I wanted caffeine, but when I was just thirsty I grabbed a bottle of water. Any thoughts? Do you think this would work for you?

Caffeine Addiction Is Caffeine Really A Drug?
tigercat replied to Yuripro84's topic in Health & Fitness
Yes caffeine is a drug, and yes it is VERY addicting. Frequent caffeine users can go through withdrawals, which lead to splitting headaches after about a day and a half without it, irritability, etc. Caffeine is the most commonly used legal drug worldwide, and contrary to popular belief, does not make you less tired, but it does hide the tiredness, basically meaning it masks how tired you are so you can function, but once you crash, you crash HARD. It is possible to build up a tolerance to caffeine, and it is possible to come to the point I would know, as I am a caffeine addict. It's a terrible addiction, I know, but I don't care either. I love caffeine, as it helps me to function, and it makes me less edgy, so....Physical Effects:? Stimulants nerve cells ? At a very high consumption in a short time, convulsions may occur? Restlessness ? Can lead to certain types of cancer ? Can increase chances of developing type 2 diabetes Psychological Effects? Wakefulness ? Excitability ? Increased Mental Awareness ? There is no evidence that caffeine is linked to the socially damaging behaviors that characterize drugs of abuse. ? RestlessnessWithdrawal Symptoms? Rebound Headaches? Irritability? Lethargy (Laziness)? Nervousness? Mild DepressionCurrent Usage for the Drug in Society? Consumed Daily by 90% of the world?s population? 95% of caffeine is consumed in tea and coffee? About 1.5 billion cups of coffee are consumed dailyI learned this and more during a school project a while back. Caffeine is a major drug, as it's so commonly used, and abused, my millions of people. So remember, if you're not hooked on it, try not to become hooked. It doesn't set in immediately, but it can within a very short time. Once and a while it's okay, like master_bacarra consumes it, but after a while on a daily basis, addiction builds up. And Yuripro84, yes caffeine does affect people in strange ways. I would know. I am a caffeine addict. You should know what you're becoming addicted to. The picture below is pure caffeine, a white powder, a tablespoon of which would kill you due to cardiac arrest.Sad. So sad. Any thoughts? -
You are doomed, but not because of the girls wanting to marry you, but because you cheated on her in the first place. If you wouldn't have cheated on her, you wouldn't be in this situation, and you wouldn't be writing about it online. Your situation is no one's fault but your own, and now that you've made your bed, you must lay in it (no pun intended). I think the best thing you could do is to is be honest. I'm not saying that pre-marital sex is immoral, or for that mattersex in general is immoral, what I'm saying is that if you're going to have sex with someone, anyone really, use a condom every time. If you have sex multiple times in one sitting (again no pun intended) then use a condom each time. Need extra lube for said condom? DO NOT use oil-based lube, as it can damage the condom, thusly making it pointless. Use water-based lube, which does not damage the condom, while still producing positive results. And remember folks, always wear a helmet. You can't always rely on the pill, etc. alone either. So let's face it, use as much protection as you can, and be careful about it. Especially if your cheating. This folks is proof the sex-ed classes that teach about contraceptives are a virtue. The more you tell people NOT to have sex, the more they're going to want to do it. It's a whole psychology thing, etc. So be safe, or, better yet, don't have sex if you're not ready. If you have sex before you're ready, you may end up like this guy. And whatever the outcome is, take responsibility for your actions. Because the only thing worse than bringing a baby into the world that you're not ready for is bringing a baby into a world where he/she is not loved. Any thoughts?

I have some problems with Dell, but my problems with Dell happened before Vista came on the scene (fortunately). I purchased a Dell laptop around Christmas 2006. The computer was fine except for one thing. It was missing half of the ram that I bought. I didn't really like the idea of not getting what I paid for, so I asked the Dell Reseller I purchased the computer from to put in the correct amount of ram. They said they would, but it took them many months to deliver what they promised. They only completely settled the matter after I posted a bad review about the Dell Reseller and got them some bad publicity. They agreed to give me the ram I paid for, but I had to take the bad review down. I am glad my computer was fixed, but it should not have taken a few months and a bad review to get the entire computer I bought. I simply will not deal with Dell again, and I recommend that you guys don't either.

I have a few questions for allfanged1. Why did you include a traffic sign from the Atomsmasher traffic sign generator? It doesn't really seem to add much to your argument. How can you possibly compare Buffalohelp to Joseph Stalin? Buffalohelp is a Xisto Administrator, who didn't seem to create a police state during the two days I have been here. Also, does Buffalohelp's username really have anything to do with him being helpful around the forum (although I haven't read any posts where he gave someone bad information)? I really don't see why allfanged1 even made this topic. None of his points were valid, and Xisto seems to be a nice site.

If you don't mind moving some content around and aren't extremely attached to your current website, I would recommend using a CMS. A CMS give you a blog and a website all in one. A CMS isn't like Wordpress, which is pretty much only a blog. A CMS is a website that can use the frontpage as a blog. I find that a CMS is much easier to maintain than a traditional website. After you get the site looking the way you want it to, there is no more coding. I disagree with you. The Joomla blog feature seems to get the job done for me. What does a traditional blog, such as Wordpress, offer that Joomla does not?

I don't think that history is a "bunch of lies" as you put it. If everyone was created recently, why can older people remember so far back into the past. Also, if history is a lie, why are there obviously artifacts from different civilizations? Wouldn't we all just be using modern technology, since history is a lie? We probably have been lied to about some things that happened in the past, but I am sure that we weren't lied to about everything that happened in the past. I will admit that this is a pretty interesting theory that questions what we all have been told in the past, but I certainly find it hard to believe.

I have an OEM copy of Windows XP. Even if it didn't come with the computer, I would have bought the retail version. With the Windows Genuine Advantage, Windows Activation, and other stuff like that, it seems that an illegal copy would be too much hassle. Not only that, illegal copies are obviously illegal, and I really don't want to get into trouble.

If you are talking about one of those sites that hosts your PHP script and doesn't give you much access, I recommend you use an actual web host instead. A few years ago, I ran a clan with my cousin, and we decided to use a service called Invision Free (they hosted modified copies of 1.3 Final). Although this was fine for a clan, who had leaders that knew nothing about forum software at the time, it is not fine for someone who really wants to customize their board. Invision Free did not give out FTP access and blocked many areas that allowed the board to have a lot of customizations. The only thing they allowed was one CSS stylesheet. There was no FTP access, so it was impossible to add features to the board other than a CSS, HTML, or Javascript customization (and even these were limiting). After that experience, I would not recommend you use one of those sites that host a script for you and give nothing else (it sounds like this freejoomlas does that). They really limit the way you customize your site. Also, I went to this freejoomla site, and it did not look very professional. I always compare a web host's website to their service. If they don't care about working on their website, they don't care about working on their servers to keep your website online.

Perfect Free Web Hosting Perfect? Yeah, right
tigercat replied to Hamtaro's topic in General Discussion
From what I have seen, most web hosts, who have perfect, best, or ultimate in them, are not really that great at all. I would say that this is especially true with free web hosts. They promise you the world and give you a penny. Many these best free web hosts are so terrible I find it better to not have a website at all. I am sure that there are some good free web hosts out there, which is one of the reasons I figured I would start posting here, but there are so many bad free web hosts that you have to be skeptical whenever you sign up at one. -
PunBB is great forum software. My friend started a forum, and he decided to use PunBB. Although I was a little skeptical of PunBB, I agreed to install it for him because he couldn't do it himself. PunBB lacks personal messaging, attachments, sub forums, easy to use BBcodes, and other features that are pretty useful. What it lacked in features, it made up for in performance. I installed Vbulletin on his site because I had a spare license for a site that was a failure, and it could not even come close to matching the speed of PunBB. It should be noted that many of PunBB's "missing features" are available as modifications. This pretty much allows the administrator to pick and choose features. Once my friend made me an administrator on his website, I realized one of PunBB's best features. PunBB has an extremely simple administrator panel. For sites that don't need a lot of specific permissions, it makes an administrator's job 100 times easier. Not only is PunBB a great software package, but PunBB is free software released under the GPL. In conclusion, I encourage anyone starting up a forum to at least install and try PunBB.
